Saturday night was interesting. We went to Millenium, which was having that garage-sale thingy where they take a bunch of stuff that isn't selling, put it in another store, and sell it for really cheap. 'Twas good. I didn't find anything I was really interested in there (at least not just for myself), but did end up buying a couple packs of Pirates of the Spanish Main. If you don't know what Pirates is, ask me sometime.. or just check it out here. It's a rather fun game. Amanda first showed it to me, and I'm hoping to get at least a few of the people in Rivernoll addicted.
Speaking of those people, we all decided to get something at the garage-sale that we could limit ourselves to and all play. Some card game that we would only buy then and there, for really cheap, and never buy any more of unless everyone else involved bought some to. With CCGs, this always makes the game funner, since how good your deck is depends on actual stategy (and a bit of luck) rather than just having the most money with which to buy the most cards. We ended up getting Legend of the 5 Rings, or L5R, which is one of the most complicated games I've ever played. It does get really fun, once you figure out what the heck is going on, but it does take quite a while to figure that out. It takes place in Feudal Japan, except with demons and goblins and such thrown into the world. It has to do with different clans of Samurai battling and such. We each took a clan... I ended up with Scorpion, which was a great choice for me, if not in stategy of the cards (since each clan has a different strategy) then in background storyline. There's a rather good description of the Scorpion clan here.
Anyway, Saturday night, we tried out L5R. We all learned the rules, but ended up playing until 6AM, which is how long it took us to play out the 5-player game... about 8 hours. It was insane. Sunday, I woke up around 5PM, did a bit of homework, lost one game of L5R, and went to bed. And that brings us to this morning, unfortunatley. And now it's off to class.
