I'm seeing a lot of threads about that and sadly peoples aren't intelligent enough to really grasp the real meaning of what a religion is.

You have two aspect to religion. It's spiritual content and it's cultural aspect.
The spiritual part give you the point of view of that religion concerning the great existential questions (What am i ? Why life exist ? What's after life ? etc.)
The cultural content is the "Do and Don't" and the background stories of the faith. It became intertwined with the religion since the religion itself is a reflect of the beliefs from the period where that religion was created. That shouldn't be the case but since it's so the most powerful propaganda, there will always be someone that will use that to serve there own interests... why spit on something that allow you to control your citizens ?

The latest incarnation of that is how the US President blend it's war action with the will of god himself. There is no need to blame him since that card has been played so many times before him that he really didn't invented anything and sadly peoples are not smart enough to realize it and make the distinction.

Religion is a beautiful thing if you manage to only look at it's spiritual content .... if you take the other aspect as proven facts ... i truly pity you.

P.S. Saying that you are atheist doesn't make you cool or look more intelligent. Most atheist i saw would start praying if i would point a gun at them ...
