expect something really random today! as usual!
chapter five:

The three returned to HQ, and went to Yasashimi's office immediately. "Robert!" Izuko said loudly, flinging open the door.
Destiny flinched; no officer was brazen enough to call Yasashimi by his first name than Izuko Aidoru.
"What is it, Aidoru?" Yasashimi asked, looking up from some paperwork.
"We think we've figured it out, Sir" Annelise said shortly.
"Figured out what?" Yasashimi asked, looking slightly confused.
"Who Abunai are striking and why. Both people have known about Abunai. And they were the first two to know. Whoever was next to know, will be next to go" Izuko explained.
"Good work, you three" Yasashimi said, waving them away as though they were a cloud of small insects.
Destiny gasped rather loudly, though, and everyone looked at her. "The next person we told was you, Yasashimi" she said, nodding to him.
For a moment, there was a rather awkward silence.
Then Yasashimi broke it by laughing loudly, "Migoto, I've been on the force long enough to know better than to take death threats seriously" he said, smiling.
"Please, though, Sir. Be on guard. The facts DO add up" Annelise said sombrely.
"Alright, fine. I'll keep that in mind. Now all of you get out of my office!" he said, standing up and frowning at them all.

Tanoshii was yet again on his own, contemplating what had happened. "They said they'd kill Meika...did they? Why don't they ever tell me anything?" he muttered, frowning. He tried to keep his thoughts on the possible death of his colleague, but it was rather hard.
All he'd really been thinking about for the past day and a half was Destiny, and how much he missed her. He reminisced over all the good times they'd had together, and thought of how they might never have any more.
~flashback~

Tanoshii Yamato sat at his desk, tapping a pen on a piece of paper boredly. It had been ages since he had seen any action, and he was wondering exactly why he was there. He heard footsteps behind him, and turned to see Lieutenant Yasashimi standing there.
"Yamato, you've got an assignment" Yasashimi said, putting more emphasis on the last word.
"An assignment? But what? What could there possibly be to do here? I mean; everyone else is on patrol but me!" he said, motioning around the office. It was true; there was nobody there but himself and the Lieutenant.
"Yamato, shut up" Yasashimi said. Tanoshii shut his mouth instantly. "As you know, we've had a lot of recruits. You've got enough experience to help in the training" Yasashimi began.
Tanoshii moaned loudly, starting to see where this was going; rookie partner.
"Be quiet. We really do need the help. Don't worry, it won't be hard" Yasashimi smiled, understanding perfectly the stress of training a rookie. He himself had trained many, including Tanoshii.
"Do I have to?" Tanoshii whined.
"Yes, yes you do" Yasashimi said shortly.
"Okay, so where is he?" Tanoshii asked, standing up and crossing his arms.
"He?" a quiet voice asked from outside the room.
"Yamato, meet your new partner, DESTINY Migoto" Yasashimi said.
Nothing happened.
Tanoshii raised his eyebrows, and Yasashimi slapped his forehead, "Migoto! That was your cue!" he said, looking over his shoulder at the door.
"Oh! Sorry! Could you said it again?" the same voice giggled.
"Get out here!!" he yelled.
Quickly the door opened and the new recruit rushed in.
Tanoshii raised his eyebrows again. "She's cute for a rookie" he thought.
The moment was ruined when she tripped, landing flat on her face. "Ahahah...! ouch" she said, jumping up and blushing embarrassedly.
"So, you're my rookie?" Tanoshii asked, staring down at her, as she was rather short.
"Destiny Wahei Migoto at your service and command, Sir!" she said, bowing.
Tanoshii took her hand and shook it, rather unconventional. But he wasn't one to stick to tradition.
She blushed again, but only lightly.
"Tanoshii Yamato. I guess I'm your mentor now" he said, shrugging.
She smiled brightly, and threw her arms around him. "Tanoshii! You're so nice! D'you mind if I call you Tanoshii? Oh! Sorry for hugging you! Umm...!" she said, jumping backwards.
Tanoshii laughed, "It's okay. You're new and excitable. I understand. I was the same way" he said, smiling.
~back to the present~

Tanoshii smiled, missing the good old days. "She was so cute and small back then. Amazing how they grow up to be..." he said to himself, trailing off. He'd meant to say "...brats" at the end, but couldn't.
"She's not a brat. Admit it, Tanoshii. You like her" part of his mind said.
"I do not!" another part argued.
"Yes you do. Now shut up" the first part said.
The door opened and Zola walked in. "Daily inspection, captive boy. Having fun on your own?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Reminiscing. Zola, have you ever been in love?" he asked, looking up at her.
Zola looked taken aback for a moment, then frowned. "Vhy do you ask me such questions, captive boy?" she asked warily.
"Because I think I might be in love and I don't know what it feels like so I wouldn't know" he said shortly.
She sighed, almost happily, "Being in love...is like pure inspiration, captive boy. Vhen it hits you, it makes your jaw drop and your heart jump into your zhroat" she said dreamily.
Tanoshii's eyes welled up with tears, and he bit his lip.
"Vhat is the matter?" she asked, bending down to look at him at eye level.
"Zola...! You just helped me realize...I AM in love!" he cried, tears streaming down his face.
"Vith who? Zhat Destiny girl? Pah! Take it from me, captive boy; you can do better" she said, standing up and laughing before walking out of the room.
Tanoshii sobbed quietly, knowing he might never have a chance to tell Destiny that he loved her. "I can feel my heart breaking" he thought, still crying softly.
***

Several days passed. No word from Abunai and no action made Destiny wonder whether they were going to go any further.
She wandered her beat aimlessly with Annelise one morning, not paying particular attention to anything but the sidewalk.
Annelise noticed the change in her normally bubbly attitude, and so was concerned. "Destiny, what's wrong? You seem out of it today" she said, poking Destiny in the side.
"Oh, do I?" Destiny asked, looking at her partner with a confused look on her face.
"Yes, you do. What're you thinking about?" Annelise asked.
"Just...wondering whether this Abunai thing was a good lead, or just a waste of our time" she sighed.
"Oh, I'm sure it wasn't a complete waste of time, Destiny. You did your best. And if it doesn't go anywhere then we can learn from our mistakes" Annelise said comfortingly.
For a moment they walked in silence. But the silence was broken almost instantly when a loud explosion errupted behind them, large enough to shake the sidewalk a block away.
"What was that?!" Annelise said loudly, whirling around.
Destiny turned around as well, and recieved a face full of dust for her trouble. "Gack!" she said loudly, coughing and wiping her tongue on her sleeve. She blinked heavily to remove dust from her eyes, and looked back up to see a large building a block away, completely leveled, and on fire.
"Wow..." Annelise said, her eyes wide, "D'you think they could've been aiming for us?"
"Probably not" Destiny said shortly, starting to walk towards the building.
"What makes you think that?" Annelise asked, walking beside her.
Destiny steadily increased her speed, "Because we'd be dead if they were aiming for us" she said, whipping out her cell phone while running.
She quickly dialed the number for Yasashimi's office, not just the main emergency line.
"Lieutenant Yasashimi here" Yasashimi said, over the phone.
"Yasashimi, it's Migoto. Umm...we've got a..." she said, trying to remember the proper term for exploded building, which didn't seem quite right.
"Got a what?" he asked, sounding impatient.
"Okay, simple terms. Me and Annie, walking down the street and suddenly this building explodes! Uh...looks like we'll need loads of back up, the fire department, and several...hundred ambulances" she explained as well as she could whilst running down the street.
"Okay, they'll be right there. Until then, you're on crowd control" he said, hanging up.
She closed her phone, sticking it back in her pocket and pushing herself to the limits of her own speed.

By the time Annelise caught up to her, Destiny was already surveying the damage. "So...whadya think?" she asked, panting slightly.
Destiny frowned, "There are a lot of people still in there. I'm going in. Cover me" she said.
"Going in? Cover you?! How am I supposed to do that?!" Annelise frowned, as Destiny made her way towards the wreckage.
"When our back up shoes, tell them where I am" she said, disappearing into the debris.
Annelise rolled her eyes, and sighed. "I suppose I'd better" she muttered, turning back to the steadily gathering crowd.

Destiny coughed, having inhaled a large ammount of dust. "Looks like there's no one left" she thought, pulling the neck of her jacket up over her nose so as not to inhale anything else.
"Hello? Is anybody here?" she called, rather loudly. A moment of almost complete silence followed, broken by the gentle cries of a baby.
Remaining silent, Destiny concluded that the baby was to her left, and headed that way. "Help is on the way, small person! just keep crying!" she called in it's direction, weaving through broken glass and fallen support beams. Within seconds, the baby was visible.
Destiny noticed that it was trapped, the bars of it's crib acting as a cage. A large and rather heavy looking block of concrete lay on top of the bars, threatening to break the bars and crush the infant.
"You stay right there! I'm going to help!" she said, attempting to move the rock. It was as heavy as it looked, and she fell over, panting. "That's heavily!" she muttered, frowning at it.
The baby stuck it's hand through the bars, touching her face. Destiny remembered that she was trying to save a life, prossibly the only life left, and persisted.

It took several minutes, but Destiny finally managed to remove the concrete. She pushed it off onto the floor, where it broke into five near pieces.
"Okay, small person! Time to get outta here!" she said, picking up the surprisingly light baby.
It burried it's head into her shoulder, ceasing it's fairly frequent cries.
"You're okay" she said soothingly. Destiny turned, and made her way back out of the debris. Not looking down, she tripped over a loose beam, landing on her knees. "Ouch!" she said, flinching. But that was the least of her worries, as the beam she tripped over happened to be supporting a rather large ammount of rubble, which then showered down upon the two. Destiny, keeping her wips about her, managed to cover the baby, before they were both burried by the fallen material.

Kyoshi Yasuo, of the K9 search and rescue unit, was assigned to check out Migoto's report of an explosion by Yasashimi. So he and his dog Yuta went to check for survivors. They were there almost instantly, and noticed that the damage was rather bad.
A familiar voice called his name. "Yasuo! I'm so glad you're here!" Annelise called, running up to him.
"Oh, hi Annelise. What're you doing here?" he asked, raising his eyebrows as she pet Yuta.
"Me and Destiny were just doing some beat work and then that building exploded!" she said, her eyes wide.
"Migoto? where is she now?" he asked.
"She...went in to check for survivors, but part of the building collapsed while she was in there so I...I'm a little more than slightly worried" she said, biting her finger.
"We'll go check for you, Colfer. We have to anyways" he said, rolling his eyes and leading Yuta towards the building.

The K9 partners entered the building, Kyoshi being dragged along by Yuta to the left.
"Fine anything, boy?" Kyoshi asked his dog curiously.
Yuta just ignored him, as dogs normally did, leading him further and further into the darkness.
Almost immediately, Kyoshi heard a baby crying. Yuta seemed to be headed towards that sound, so he squinted into the shadows. "Hello? Anybody there?" he called, recieving no answer.
Yuta came to the place where the cries were coming from, and began to dig, as he was trained to.
Kyoshi assisted him, removing large objects. "Migoto?" he asked cautiously. Still no answer. Finally, the partners reached Destiny and the baby.
The baby was fine, but Destiny could barely keep her eyes open. "K-Kyoshi?" she asked, looking up at him.
"Destiny, you moron. You're supposed to wait until we get here!" he said, pulling her up. He noticed that she was bleeding badly, from her neck and her right thigh. "Are you okay?" he asked.
"I don't know...part of me wantsto say yes but I know better than that" she said, smiling weakly.
"C'mon, we'd better get you out of here" he said, leading her out.
"I think...that the baby is the only one left" she said sadly, looking down at it.
"Yeah. Yuta would've headed for anyone else who was alive. I'm afraid it is" he sighed.
"But it's a good thing I found it. It would've been killed anyhow if I hadn't come" she said.
"You probably would've been killed if I hadn't come!" he said annoyedly, frowning at her.
"Sorry" she smiled again.
*

After blacking out from blood loss, Destiny remembered absolutely nothing when she woke up. For a moment she kept her eyes closed, trying to ignore the sharp pain in her neck, arm, and leg. She tried to move her fingers, but the pain was over-bearing and she moaned loudly.
"Destiny?" a voice asked, sounding a little surprised.
Destiny opened her eyes, to see Annelise bending over her worriedly.
"Annelise...what happened?" she asked, attempting to sit up.
"Broke your arm. and then passed out from blood loss. And now, just so you know, you're at the hospital" Annelise explained calmly.
Destiny frowned, "I figured that much, Annelise. But they're not going to let me go, are they?" she asked.
"I'm afraid not. Not for a few days. But don't worry! I can handle work" Annelise smiled brightly.
"That's not what I'm worried about. Promise me, no matter what time it is and no matter where you are that if you get ANY work whatsoever from Tanoshii that you'll call me, alright?" Destiny asked, sounding very serious.
"of course. You'll be the first to know. Other than Yasashimi, of course, unless he's the one who tells me" Annelise said, still smiling.
"Okay...good" Destiny sighed, falling back onto the pillows.
"You should rest now. The pain killers aren't working anymore, I see, so it's better to sleep it off" Annelise said, taking Destiny's unbroken hand.
"Alright. Stay here? I don't want to be alone" Destiny said, a slight hint of sadness in her voice.
"Of course" Annelise repeated softly.
