expect something really random today! as usual!
chapter one:

The sun rose over Tokyo on that particular morning, to a clear blue sky. The age old tradition of walking everywhere (within walking distance), started some time in the 30th century, had cut pollution down so much that the only clouds hanging over the city really were clouds.
The curtains wide open in her room, Destiny woke to the sun. She blinked heavily, looking up at the clock. It said 8:42, and the alarm was supposed to have rung at 7:00. Destiny almost had a heart-attack, jumping up and scrambling to get ready.
"I've never been this late before! I hope they don't demote me because of this!" she said to herself quietly, pulling her long black hair into a ponytail and rushing out the door. Tripping over a dog and tumbling into the elevator, Destiny silently ranted about old alarm clocks. "You can only use them so many times and then the batteries start dying...I really need a new one..." she thought to herself, ignoring the whispers of "and to think; she's a police officer" from the other occupants of the elevator.
When the seemingly slow elevator finally reached the main floor, Destiny flew out of it, running towards the doors. Avoiding other people and hurdling over pets and small children, she flung the doors open and tripped down the first five steps leading up to the doors. "Ouch!" she said loudly, though more out of surprise than pain.
Many of the teenagers and young adults during that time were breaking the walking tradition, and Destiny was one of them. She jumped onto her scooter, kicking off the curb down the street towards the police station.

HQ had been swamped by the media since the interstellar war had flared up again, but it hadn't been as bad as it was that morning. Destiny made it to HQ at exactly the same time as her superior, Lieutenant Yasashimi, and they were both instantly surrounded by reporters.
"How would you explain the bombings of last week, Lieutenant?"
"What measures do you intend to take to ensure that it doesn't happen again?"
Being the type to ignore, Lieutenant Yasashimi just walked inside. Destiny, however, turned on the nosy reporters. "The Lieutenant does not wish to comment at this point" she said, opening the door and slipping quickly inside before the reporters could get their bearings again.
"Hey, Destiny!" from the corner near his desk, Tanoshii Yamato waved to Destiny. They had been partners since Destiny joined the force, and had grown to be best friends.
"Hey Tanoshii! What's up?" Destiny asked happily, smiling and high-fiving him.
"Not a whole lot. I see you're late. Again" he said, raising his eyebrows.
Destiny blushed, staring at the floor. "Not my fault...the alarm didn't go off..." she muttered.
"Sure it didn't. It's always something like that, isn't it?" he asked, smirking.
"Get off my back! I am having a very rough week!" she said annoyedly, though she knew he could see through her false attitude.
"Uh huh...you, and everyone else in this building" he said, motioning to the rest of them.
Most of the desks were covered in paperwork, the phones were ringing off the hook. Everyone was completely swamped. As the police were basically acting as the military, there was much more work for everyone.
Destiny made a face, "I see your point" she said, making her way over to her desk. Much brighter than the others, Destiny's desk was completely plastered with every picture she could find. Most being from magazines, few being of her and her friends. Only one of them was over her and her family. She stared at it, tapping her pen on the desk top. The picture showed the whole family, on their vacation to Mars. Not much of a vacation, but they thought it would be fun. Destiny was only seven in the picture, looking happy with her parents. One of the corners was burnt, and it looked like there was someone standing next to them, intentionally in the shot. Destiny couldn't remember anything before her 9th birthday, so all those years were a blur to her. She had found the picture a year after her old home had been destroyed, the first of the bombings in Tokyo.
Taking her eyes off the picture, Destiny spun in her chair out of boredom.
"Get to work, space cadet" Tanoshii muttered, walking past and smiling.
Destiny stuck out her tongue at him, frowning playfully before turning to the massive pile of paperwork sitting in front of her. "Oh man! this is gonna be a long day!" she sighed, rolling her eyes.

At the end of the day, Destiny walked wearily up the steps to the main doors of her appartment. "I was right," she sighed, "that was hard! I hope this clears up soon"
The streets had been unusually quiet that evening, so she sat on the steps and contemplated the matter. "Of course it's not going to clear up" she thought, "what with the war and bombings and invasions; it's a wonder they haven't put me on patrol yet!" she sighed, continuing up the steps. Opening the door, Destiny found the lobby completely full. But she was still too lost in thought, ignoring everyone and shuffling into the elevator. At her floor, Destiny walked quickly down the hallway and opened her door, slamming it behind her after walking in. "Finally!" she said loudly, falling into a fluffy chair.
"Let's see what's in the news today" she muttered, turning on the television.
"And in more serious news..." the reporter said. Destiny frowned at that, but kept watching. "...there has been another bombing, resulting in another invasion. Police managed to aprehend many of the suspects, but many more are still on the loose" The important stories ended quickly, and Destiny turned the tv off again.
"Great. Just perfect. Another bombing. ANOTHER raid. This is going to make my job easier" she said sarcastically, getting up and walking over to the window. Staring up at the skies, Destiny muttered "at least I can enjoy this moment. Tomorrow is going to be another hectic day"
*

The next morning, Destiny made it to work on time for once. Greeted by a friendly "Well, tht's different! You're actually here on time!" from Tanoshii, she had about an hour and a half before anything major was expected. Enough time to look over some things. In other words; enough time to sit and look bored at her over-crowded desk.
At around nine o'clock, Destiny heard Lieutenant Yasashimi called her into his office. A curious look on her face, she stood up, wandering into his office.
"What is it, Lieutenant?" she asked, putting on a polite face.
"Now, I know you're a little new on the job, and you don't have much experience, but since the invasion we're a little short on officers. So, I need you and Yamato to go on patrol today" Yasashimi explained.
Destiny's eyes widened in surprise. It was a little early to be sending someone as inexperienced as herself out on the job, especially since the bombings and invasions. "B-b-but sir...!" she stammered, paling.
"But nothing. Yamato has enough experience for the both of you. Here" he said, plaing a handgun on the desk.
Destiny stared at it, her eyes still close to falling out. It was a brand new, top of the line laser.
The Lieutenant noticed Destiny's meaningful glance up at him and back to the laser, and smiled. "Yes, it's brand new. I trust you with it, Migoto. Don't screw up" he said.
"Uh...thanks, I think..." she said, picking it up.
"You'd better take this, too" Yasashimi added, pressing a badge into her free hand.
She put down the laser, closely examining the badge. "So you aren't kidding with this, then?" she asked, raising her eyebrows suspiciously. Yasashimi shook his head, and Destiny grinned. "Thank you so much! I promise to try my best and try very hard not to screw up!" she said, saluting him before running out of the office and down the hall.
Yasashimi sighed, looking down at the laser Destiny had left behind. "That kid is so weird" he muttered, going back to paperwork.
Destiny ran back into the room, blushing slightly, "Forgot this" she muttered, grabbing the laser.
Yasashimi shook his head.
Destiny ran down the hall until she ran into Tanoshii at the door. "You'll never guess where we're going!!" she shrieked, grinning from ear to ear.
"Okay, where?" Tanoshii asked, raising his eyebrows.
"We're headed out! We're on patrol! We've got a beat now!" Destiny said loudly.
"Oh really? That's new...I haven't seen the light of day since you came onto the force" he said.
"That's not even the best part! looky!" Destiny said happily, pulling out her new laser. She watched his expression change from sad to amazed in half a second.
"Destiny, do you know how much these things cost?!" he said incredulously, "I don't even have one, that's how much!"
"Well, I bet you get one too. After all, we are officially on duty now!" she said, smirking and covetting her new weapon.
"I think I'd better go talk to the Lieutenant. Get some things straightened out. Wait here" Tanoshii said, turning around and walking towards the Lieutenant's office.
Destiny did as she was told, bouncing on the spot excitedly.
(this is not even half of the first chapter sweatdrop )

This is definitely going in a good direction, though I am surprised that Destiny hasn't turned out more solemn. She still acts a bit young. But I suppose it just goes to show how strong of a person she is. You did an excellent job with the character interactions in this part of the story.

There were two lines I really liked. One: "Avoiding other people and hurdling over pets and small children, she flung the doors open and tripped down the first five steps leading up to the doors." Two: "'Get to work, space cadet' Tanoshii muttered, walking past and smiling."
