yipee! prologue!
The intergalactic war. It was a topic often discussed in the newspapers, in the media, even in the streets. Nobody believed that Earth could ever be caught in a war that large. Everything in Tokyo, in the year 4047 seemed perfect. The people of Earth thought that their planet would be safe. Poor, naive humans.
Destiny Migoto was sixteen years old. She had lived in Tokyo all her life, and was one of the people who didn't believe the rumors of the war. She had been out with her friends at the movies, and was walking home. The night was warm and there was a cool breeze, but a sense of foreboding resounded over the neighbourhood. Destiny shivered, looking over her shoulders. "Is there someone following me?" she thought, raising her eyebrows. She looked back to the horizon, but was surprised by what she didn't see. Destiny had lived in a hundred story tall appartment complex, clearly visible from her location. but instead of the large and imposing structure looking back at her, there was only a tower of smoke. She stopped walking, staring up at the thick, grey smoke rising from the ground. "What...happened?" she thought, her mouth dropping open. The wailing of sirens reached her ears, steadily growing louder as fire trucks raced towards her. She began to run to her home, now worried. Her parents had been at home. The fire trucks reached the site before she did, and by the time she got there, Destiny was cut off by police lines. She stared quietly at the burning remains of her home, listening to the police talk. "Most of the residents made it out alright" one police officer said. "That's a relief" another agreed. Destiny scanned the crowd, but didn't see her parents anywhere. She turned back towards the building just in time to see what remained of it collapse. "NO!" she screamed, her eyes wide. She looked the police straight in the eyes, and vaulted over the warning tape, running towards the ruins. Searching for only a moment, Destiny found the place where her appartment was, and was horrified at what she saw there. Both her parents, pinned down by a fallen support beam. "Mom! Dad!" she cried, cautiously making her way towards them. She stopped in her tracks when she saw that her mother had already died. Her father had heard her, and raised his head to see her. "Dad! Are you alive?!" she called. "Destiny!" he replied, smiling weakly. She ran over to him, falling to her knees next to him. "I am so sorry. This is all our fault" her father said, coughing. The smoke had reached his lungs, and massive trauma to the head and spine meant he only had a few minutes to live. "No it's not! You had nothing to do with this!" Destiny cried, tears streaking her dirty face. Her father smiled again, very slightly, "No, this is our fault. I just want you to do one thing for me..." he said. "Anything..." she sniffed loudly, wiping her eyes. "I want you to be a big girl...and find Abunai...destroy it...it wasn't meant to be" he said, taking her hands. She nodded, rather confused as to what this had meant. Her father closed his eyes, and hers widened again. At that moment, Destiny Wahei Migoto realized she was utterly alone in the world. She had no living relatives, and no one who cared about her. "NOOOO!!!" she screamed to the sky, which was black from the smoke. The police officers she had heard talking were suddenly behind her, and one knelt down next to her. "Your parents?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. She nodded silently, sobbing into her hands. "Come on...we should get you out of here" he said kindly, helping her up. "You've had a rough day, sweetie. We'll make sure nothing bad happens to you" the other officer said, putting her arm around Destiny's shoulders. Destiny leaned on the officer for support, steadily crying. As they led her away she swore that, whatever Abunai was, she would find it and destroy it.
That was three years ago.
