The second bowl was thrown using a brown clay which naturally has iron oxide in it. This gives the piece when it is finished a brown speckled appearance. The bowl has fashioned from a bean pot design. The handles were made from twisting three thin coils of clay which were attached to the bowl. Approximate dimensions are 4 inches high and 6 inches wide. Since most casseroles have a tendency to bubble over when cooked, I wanted the glaze to mimic that affect. The entire bowl was dipped into a layering glaze which is slightly white (against this brown clay body; more yellow against lighter clay bodies) but opaque. Then I dribbled Randy's Red glaze around the rim, allowing it to down both the inside and outside of the bowl. This piece is called "Melt Down."
