I have always been afraid of the ocean
I've never traveled over seas
or even been on a boat
its not the waves that terrify me
or what dwells below
its the endless expanse
the idea that if you
drift out far enough
all land
disappears
and you could swim
as hard as you can
as long as you can
and only end up further from the shore
sometimes I feel like I am
endlessly treading water
and as I drift aimless
through the doldrums
I wonder
is it too late to learn
to navigate by star?
