They had been wary of him from the start. He had been too eager in the interview. Too enthusiastic in casual conversations, too withdrawn while working. His behaviour became increasingly erratic as the months went by. They had heard him giggling in his lab, and he seemed almost unconscious of his coworkers' presence at times.
They decided to get rid of him before he became a hazard. They told him that they had decided to end his contract. He took the news quite well. He gathered his things, cleared his desk, and killed them all. Then he went exploring, to see where his dead associates' security badges would take him.
