I would like to clarify that I am not a believer in the paranormal or the preternatural, though there might be things out there that we cannot yet prove the existence of.

I came to this hypothesis after playing Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. For those of you familiar with the game, you will remember that Zant, using the power given to him by Ganondorf, has covered the kingdom in twilight, and all of its dwellers are left sort of wandering, lost and alone. Link, however, sees them as mere wisps of energy floating around, until he uses his wolf ability and can see them as almost glowing figures.

Well,my hypothesis is as follows.

arrow If we assume that ghosts exist, they do so in a dimension separate from ours. Separated by a sort of veil or what have you and they run on a different frequency.

arrow That we might be able to see these beings existing on this other plane from time to time, but they might not be able to see us, and it is possible that our frequencies never truly cross, save for a time of year; Samhain or Hallowe'en.

arrow Even if they can see us, we might also appear as wisps or as transparent figures. That they are as frightened and unnerved by us as we are by them. Perhaps they forget their memories of being alive and being with the living, and once they cross over, their existence is completely different.

arrow If, as said before ghosts are on a different frequency, every piece of equipment we have to detect them is essentially useless. If they move so fast or so slow or w/e, neither our recording machines, nor our brains could accurately detect them, but only catch glimpses of them...almost like a mirage at specific places that are said to allow us to glimpse into their dimension for a brief moment, if that is even true or possible.

arrow Ultimately, if ghosts exist and if they are in a different dimension/plane of existence, it is nigh impossible to see them...there is a wall of twilight between us, if you will. A wall that can sometimes weaken, but for the most part it is there, and sometimes that wall becomes a window, and the spirits enter our realm, but we seem to them as wisps or are nigh invisible...because they are pure energy and we are not, they are beyond our understanding.

arrow Ergo, we cannot really communicate with them. Our speech and our brain waves aren't fast enough or w/e to facilitate such a thing.
