In general my politics can be summed up as don't screw with the Constitution and mind your own business. I'm neither democrat nor republican. I might be called libertarian, but not enough ******** were given about politics for me to actually research what the libertarian party is about so I just say I'm not affiliated.
I have problems with both dem and rep parties. Each side wants their own freedoms but wants to deprive other freedoms. I don't care about gay marriage and marijuana. I don't support forced religion in public schools, but I don't support forced anti religion either. From what I've seen democrats seem a bit more against the Constitutional rights. Many democrats I've met are anti gun, anti due process, pro censorship, and so on. Not all democrats are like that and a lot of republicans can be that way too so ultimately it does vary from person to person.
The subject I am most vocal on is gun ownership because I believe an armed population is the best defense against an oppressive regime and from self defense. When seconds can make the difference between life and death the police will be minutes away.
I'm also a big supporter of free speech. The newest KMFDM album features a picture of a topless woman cutting down a cross with a chainsaw. I don't even object to the topless woman, but cutting down the cross seemed in bad taste to me since I am religious. Even though I don't like it I support it because I want the right to express myself even if what I say offends someone. I especially disapprove of Westboro Baptist but I again support their right to do what they do with the protests. A couple weeks ago I went to a 2nd amendment rally in Salem. If the WBC was refused the right to their assembly what is to stop the government from refusing my right to assemble to support a cause I believe in? The only thing stopping that is faith that the government won't deprive people of their rights as a means to oppress them.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist who believes Obama is the new Hitler. I just keep an open mind to the thought it is possible. History has shown governments becoming corrupt because the people lowered their guard and let it happen. Even if you don't think our government has done that other governments have and if we don't learn from their history we are condemning ourselves to repeat it.
