A month or so ago I was on a facebook page called "Occupy the NRA". It was another anti gun page created in the wake of Sandy Hook. One of the things I noticed was how they deleted posts and blocked people who disagreed with them. The Brady Campaign did the same thing and so do many other anti gunners. They also branded pro gunners as libertarian extremists.
First and foremost the term "extremist" is a big emotional word. It is associated with muslim extremists, the belief that if you don't follow Islam you MUST be killed for being an infidel. This implies that we will bring the fight to you and we will initiate combat. James Yeager is a prime example of that in his "Pack your bags" video. He said if gun control moves another inch there will be a war and he will fire the first shot, that he will start killing people.
That's some crazy s**t right there. I gotta admire his passion for his beliefs, but that is extremist. Alex Jones and Ted Nugent also verbally tore Piers Morgan a new one on CNN. They seemed more extremist than Yeager. These faces are what anti gunners want to brand me with.
I am not a combatant. I am not an extremist. I do not want to resort to violence. I don't want to fight you or anyone else. I am not a threat to anyone with a mosin nagant, an AR-15, or an M60. I don't even want the M60, but if I had one not a single life would be at risk. If I or someone else I care about are attacked I will do what I can to defend our lives, but I will not be the one to start that fight.
What is a libertarian? A libertarian wants the people to have freedom to make their own choices as opposed to authoritarians who want the government to make those choices for you. Democrats tend to want social freedom like the ability to do drugs, socialist programs that can give people help if they need it, gay marriage, and so on. Republicans want the law to enforce morality like forcing religion in schools, no abortion, working to support yourself. Libertarians want the government to mind their own business. I don't like being considered a terrible person for the choices I make so I try not to brand others as bad people for their choices. My life is none of your business so long as my choices don't hurt you. Your life is none of my business if you don't hurt me. If I have guns but I don't threaten to harm you then you have no right to take them away from me. If you smoke marijuana that's none of my business.
It's hard to be an extremist when you want to mind your own business and have others mind theirs which in a nutshell is what libertarians are about.
