Blood does a lot of jobs in the body--carrying oxygen, removing waste and even determining your entire personality.
Of course you might not have learned that last bit in school. But according to popular Japanese belief, each of the four major blood types-- A, B, AB and O--is an instant indicator of a person's personality, much the same way some folks in the Weatern world believe a person's birthday (and corresponding Zodiac sign) determines their personality.
Japan, like many other Asian countries, has been obsessed with blood types for about a century, and nowadays, most folks only have to hear the type to know exactly what personality it corresponds to--which means just about every manga, anime, and video game that has caracter profiles includes blood type. Anime Insider ((and now me)) is happy to take a microscope to each blood type to reveal exactly what cells mean which personalities--and even let you know what your favorite character bleed! Sure it sounds wierd but hey--it's all in the name of science, right?
A
If you're a good planner and even better worker, you've probably got type A blood coursing through your veins. Calm, level-headed and reliable, these people always have their noses to the grindstone and a clear goal ahead of them. Members of the A-team tend to be perfectionists, but they're also shy and like keeping to themselves. They spend so much time trying to hide their emotions that to others, they may appear a bit distant or cold. Always eager to avoid confrontation, they try to appease everyone, but they seldom feel truely comfortable in society. It's not surprise that A is perfect for brooding giant robot pilots, as well as heroes on the lookout for bad guys. If there's a huge crisis waiting to be averted, these are the folks who are most likely to get things done, even if they withdraw into themselves afterwards.

Great minds think alike, but it might not be because of their type B blood. Curious about the world and eager to learn, these bright-eyed folks will pick a topic that interests them and stay obsessed with it until they're experts. No matter how impossible the task, they'll stick with it to the end. Problem is, they aren't always aware of the consequenses of their actions, which leads to trouble. Throwing social customs to the wind, they're almost always cheerful, spunky, and brimming with energy, so type B anime characters are often fantastic leaders, but also make great underdog heroes, too.

((this one's me ^_^))If bringing people together is what you do best, then you've got nothing but pure O running through your body. The kind who bring smiles and sweatdrops wherever they go, O types are outgoing and social and well-liked by almost everyone. Definitely the harmony-promoters, they're big-hearted and easily swayed by people's opinions, but when it comes to something they care about, they can be as stubborn as an old goat ((which is why i don't like to debate sweatdrop )). When it comes to anime shows with big groups of characters, type Os are typically the airheads whose crazy plans and terrible mistakes often end up yielding huge rewards, as well as a lot of comic relief.

For everyone else, ther's AB. AB is the ultimate catch-all, the blood type for characters who don't fit in anywhere else--or, just as often, are too mysterious to get one of the "regular" blood types. Often incredibly emotional, ABs are extremely considerate of the feelings of others and treat them with caution... but only for aquaintances and those held at a distance. When it comes to personal issues and close friends, AB types can be fairly hard on them. With that dual personality, AB blood is the choice for 1) anime characters who are constantly at the whim of their surroundings and companions, such as the hapless male stars of harem shows; 2) incredibly goofy or crazy characters; and 3) the dark and brooding heroes (and villians with their own stoic code of honor) that all the girls seem to fall for.
