this is just a vague outline for a story and character i might be rping with soon.

the story is that a group of privateers around the late 1600s venture off into the seas, but are accosted by their countries naval forces and told that their letter of marque was revoked and that for a year they had been looting ships illegally. in truth, these people truly believed that they were legitimate privateers, and it turns out that someone very powerful has developed a grudge against them. they decide to break out of prison before their executions and steal a ship, then find a hidden hoard of wealth and escape to a place where they can live in anonymity. they quickly find that they are not the only people aware of the treasure's existence, and will have a tough time getting it for themselves
