Well Christmas time is just a MONTH away and already the stores have had their decorations for sale out for months, with Santas popping up with pumpkins and turkeys alike. It got me thinking.. when did Christmas lose it's soul?
I mean, Christmas is supposed to be a celebration of Christ's birth, a time to give thanks and to spread joy and kindness through acts of good will. And what do we end up with? Stressed out maniacs running through the malls, fighting with people, clawing your way to the best gift at the cheapest price. Then comes the dreading of the masses of people invading your house and your space, consuming all your food like a flock of locus and leaving destruction in their wake.
It's now become about who can sell the most, who can give the best gifts, who can make the most profits, who gets the best stuff. Forget one of the most momentus events in the Christian faith (other than Easter of course... but ask most Christians the most important holiday and the answer will most likely be christmas), GIVE ME LOTS OF STUFF!!!
Seriously, when was the last time you associated the image Christ with the word 'Christmas' BEFORE the image of Santa and presents came to mind? Yeah, didn't think so!
Christmas sold out a long time ago. We just didn't see it slowly slipping away in our haste to make sure that we got the gifts that we wanted. I mean, EVERYONE celebrates it. Even those who aren't christian. Not to say that they should be excluded, but should the holiday really have meaning to them? Isn't it somewhat blasphemous to celebrate the birth of OUR Saviour? It must be the joy and time of thanks that they are celebrating...
Anyways, on that happy note, what do the other pants dancers want for Christmas?
