A random collection of my thoughts
I Like Guns
If you like guns and country music you should check out the album I Like Guns by Australian country star Steve Lee.

So if you're not stalking my posts in the GD or in guilds I've finally got the parts in for my Charter Arms AR-7. The original stock and barrel got lost years ago. Henry Arms have been making the AR-7 since 97' and among other things a big problem is that the barrel is just a plastic tube with a small metal sleeve inside. The Charter Arms one I have didn't have that. It was solid metal.

Anyway we got a 16 inch sporter barrel. It's a heavy beast. The barrel alone weighs probably at least 50% more than the receiver and stock combined. That's pretty heavy. The barrel included a scope mount. We got a red dot sight and a rifle scope that adjusts from 3x zoom up to 9x.

Anyway it also came with a sporter stock and pistol grip. On the standard stock the grip is attached to the rest of the stock and a screw goes through the grip and attaches to the back of the receiver. This one was different though. It has one screw attached to the receiver where the old screw went and a second screw that goes through the rear sigh so the stock is actually attached in 2 places rather than one. Then after this another screw goes through the pistol grip to attach it to the stock. I've found that there is a screw that removes the part of the stock that mounts to the rifle from the rest of the stock so you just have the mount. With this you could attach the pistol grip to the rifle without having a stock at all making it a giant pistol. Firstly I would like to point out while this is possible it is not legal. Doing this reduces the overall length of the rifle to less than 28 inches which is the legal minimum length. While this rifle for all intents and purposes is now pretty much converted into a pistol it's still safer to assume the law will still classify it as a rifle. Better to not try and bend the rules. Secondly as I mentioned before the barrel is VERY heavy. No stock just throws the balance off even more. You have to have a very strong wrist to hold it steady. It's just a .22 but it's not the recoil. It's the weight of the weapon. You could cut the barrel down but once again this is illegal. The legal minimum length for a rifle barrel is 16 inches.

If you REALLY want an AR-7 pistol I've heard that a pistol variant was made as well. Try and find one. Even better just save yourself a lot of trouble and get yourself a different .22 pistol.

So for those of you who DON'T know where I live I live in Oregon where we get a lot of rain. I was waiting for these parts to come in so I could go shooting. We actually had some good weather for a change. Then the day the parts come in the weather turns to crap. So far on the weather forecast Saturday is the only day in the next 10 days where we should get a break from the rain. One day probably won't be enough. The place I want to shoot at was very muddy before all the rain came in.

In unrelated news Valentines day came and went. To be sneaky shortly after midnight my grandpa and I went to my sisters apartment to put a box of chocolates in her car while she was asleep. On the highway a tire exploded on my truck. It didn't just get a hole. All around the outside wall it was split every which way. The truck NEVER had a flat before that. The spare tire in the back was the original. I got the jack out and tried to jack the truck up but the gears kept slipping so it was no good. I have a carriage jack for a backup. It was rusted though and I couldn't use it either. Finally a state trooper found us and called AAA for us so they could get our tire changed.

Later that day we got a new set of tires. The spare only had about 20 miles on it so we kept it. Earlier today we went and got a mini hydraulic jack. I'm hoping it will fit in the place where I had the old jack.
