According to my Novelist Boot Camp book, you're on the right track. =P It also says to make a list of minor characters (they don't need as extensive work as Protagonist and your Antagonist. And when you've got your story planned out, put it on an index card. Easier to carry around and have out when you do write longhand. Heck, it even said writing longhand when you can is a good thing because you can fill in what you forgot when you type it up on the computer.

Oh note cards, I didn't even think about that, I will have to put together a bunch of note cards to take with me especially for the secondary/minor character I always seem to forget about.

I did longhand writing last year for the first time, just taking a 15 minutes to scribble something down and it was awesome because even if I didn't use what I wrote down, I lifted a ton of ideas from what I wrote that I probably would have forgotten by the time I got to my computer.
