The planet wasn't his business to monitor. The planet was his to rule. So far, taking Midgar under control wasn't very hard at all. However, as a pale, thin finger clicked the button on the mouse, the phone on his desk began to ring. He allowed it to ring a few times through before the blond man finally directed his gaze to it. As if completely uninterested by whatever the employee had to say, Rufus ShinRA returned his gaze to the computer screen, hovering the mouse cursor over the name of one of the most useless scientists in the entire department. " Seven-hundred gil a month? No, no, he's gone. " Rufus rolled his eyes, clicking over the highlighted button of " unemployed. " Yes, Doctor Yvonne was now fired. " No replacement. " He mumbled, reaching over to his miniature intercom, pressing one button that would direct him instantly to his secretary. " If you would so kindly deliver a 'pink slip' to the employees I have sent to you - " Rufus' sentence was ended prematurely as his phone began to ring again. This time, slightly intrigued, Rufus released the button and waited - once two rings had passed, he reached over and gently answered the phone. Putting the receiver to his ear, Rufus spoke quietly. " What is it? "

He sat in silence while Reeve Tuesti explained everything to him. Mako Reactors were reportedly becoming active again, but not permanently. Something through the planet was happening, and the WRO wasn't exactly up to par with dealing with it. He needed orders to tell the World-Regenesis Organization before something terrible happened - Rufus smirked silently to himself, picking up a little stress-ball off his desk and staring at it. He squeezed it gently between his thin fingers and quietly chuckled to himself. " Sephiroth. " He mused, before looking upwards toward his computer screen.
" Sir? " Reeve asked in question from the other line, receiving another light chuckle from the President.
" Send someone to check out those reactors. If they're still active, they must be shut down immediately. " With that, Rufus hung up the phone, rising slowly from his seat. Oh, yes. Sephiroth was back - wasn't he? With no hesitation, Rufus slipped his cell phone into his pocket and reached into a drawer of his desk, removing his sawed off shotgun, holstering it within his first layer of jacket.

" Very well. " Reeve laughed, once the phone was hung up and Rufus was no longer on the other line. He was standing in Sector 7 of Midgar, before he began to send out a couple text messages, informing some of his 'soldiers' to check out the reactors they were closest to. Finishing rather quickly, Reeve smiled to himself, sliding the phone back into his pocket. He wasn't exactly surprised that Rufus had come to the conclusion of Sephiroth returning - it was only a matter of time before the man returned from the Life stream, yet again. But this seemed a bit too much to be Sephiroth. the reports of higher levels of Mako to him was ... almost disconcerting. Sephiroth had never used quite that much mako in his return previously ... so Reeve began to forward his suspicions to the department of Public Health and Safety - also known as, the Turks. From the President, to the WRO, Reeve had connections with them all. Being generally friendly with all the branches, Reeve was one of the more-liked employees. Everyone seemed to have liked him.

Tseng had been signing papers when the report of suspicious activity came from Reeve Tuesti in the form of a text message. Without thinking, Tseng dialed a number on his phone, summoning one of his subordinates. They needed a helicopter, and quickly. Tseng would take Reno with him, and the two most advanced Turks would scout the area for any abnormalities in mako pressure. " Reno, get the chopper ready for fifteen minutes. " He flipped the cell phone shut, leaving his office, and heading for the elevator. The President was going out - so he had reported - and Tseng had a mission. He would meet Reno on the roof within fifteen minutes and be off to scout the areas with the Mako reactors, and reported amounts of mako activity. Whatever had given the planet its latest tremor was most definitely powerful.

The Forgotten City - a dark place in which hardly anything would be spotted by the dim light offered by the glowing trees. A dark cloaked man, platinum hair lightly damped by the water from the lake, sat back-against a tree, smirking slightly up at the darkened 'top' of the forest. " Well, well. " He mused, his green eyes almost piercing through the sky. " Seems as if Mother is in my favor. " He chuckled lightly to himself, pushing himself upwards and tightly grasping his long sword. He had returned to the filthy planet earlier than he had presumed, but why wouldn't he take advantage of what his mother gave him? Generous JENOVA - how kind she was. Rescuing him from the depths of the Lifestream, his life renewed on the surface once again. This time, he wouldn't be leaving, either. The planet would fall to him - and he would be the ruler of Gaia. Everything - everyone would bow to him, beg for mercy. As little droplets of water slowly slipped off his trench-coat, Sephiroth's lips formed a thin smirk - spreading his single, black wing and flying upwards through the sky. Before he could truly exact his revenge on Midgar - he was going to take a trip that dismantled Mideel. He needed a place to 'stay' in order to regain all his powers and make sure he was still in perfect functioning order.

But not everyone was on the outside. A white haired male, whose hair seemed to stick out on every end, while running down his back, had awoken in the darkened basement of some house on some continent. " Hngh ... " he groaned to himself, bringing his hand to his forehead. What the hell - where was he and why was he there? He got up, off the cold stone ground, brushing his pants down. His head was killing him and he didn't really want to move, but he needed to get out and figure out where everyone was. After shaking his head, Weiss searched around the near-black basement to find his twin gunblades. Once they were spotted, he attached them aptly to his pants and quickly exited the basement, taking the most direct route out. He kicked out a door opening up to the run-down city, emerging from the basement on his own. His teal eyes searched about the empty area. If he could put a name on it, he would say this pathetic excuse for a town as Gongaga. While he looked from the center of a dirt path, he saw no signs of life. Seemed as though everyone who lived there had died - or something. So, he took the opportunity to slip into a house that appeared to be abandoned. Everything was going to take some time to figure out. Why the hell was he HERE?

While the planet continued to surge with power, erupting mako in random craters that been silenced for quite some time, another man was brought to the surface. A dark haired man, covered with restraints and a muzzle on his face. He chewed the muzzle, looking around the rocky area and shaking his head as if terrified by the idea he was alone. " Brother ... ? " He quietly muttered, anxiously looking around, seeing nothing but rock ... after rock ... after rock. The mountainous paths around him lead into four different directions. The man, still unsure of what he was doing or where he was, began to become enshrouded with darkness. Little wisps of shadows and dark forms began to encircle him as he cried out loudly for assistance. When no response came, but his own echo, Nero sunk himself into the ground to disappear from all sight. His mind-set was scared. He had never been separated from his brother! And the last he recalled, both were on the verge of death! How was he on Gaia ... and alive? And ... where was Weiss?! Nn ... none of this was good. It was all bad. All of it. When he re-emerged onto the surface again, Nero was in a dark alley. And he hardly had any energy left to bring himself somewhere else. Shaking his head, he looked toward some person sitting in the alley. Covered by a dark cloak, Nero kicked at him, tilting his head to the side. When the person didn't respond, he bent down, pulling off the cloak on the man with his mechanic hands on his metallic wings. He removed the cloak entirely, fitting it around himself and retracting the metallic wings far enough that he looked like a normal civilian. For a man with the mind-set of a child ... Nero had become aware of his surroundings and how he should look rather quickly. The body he had pulled the cloak off of twitched slightly as it slept, and Nero quickly escaped the alleyway, walking quickly beyond any people in the city of Midgar who might find him as strange - all he had to do was find a place to stay, temporarily, until he could find his brother ... he needed Weiss - otherwise, he would never know what to do ... !
----------------------------------------------------

TWO

-----------------------------------------------------

Nero's level of paranoia increased as he felt as though he were being followed. He moved his shoulders upwards in order to try and pull the hood of the cloak over his head further. He chewed anxiously on his muzzle .. he needed somewhere to hide. Somewhere he could regain his power and not be noticed ... or found by ShinRA. His crimson eyes stared at the ground as he continued walking, but his thoughts ended instantly, the moment some young girl appeared in front of him, greeting him openly. He stopped moving, stared at her. His eyes were wide and he chewed uncomfortably on his muzzle. He listened to her talk ... and he slowly side-stepped around the girl, his crimson eyes staying focused on her. He still chewed on the muzzle, beginning to back away from the girl. She was strange ... was she an enemy? Was she tainted? Was she pure? Without Weiss, Nero had no idea what to do ... not to mention, he was socially inept as it was.

" ... I ... " he began, slowly nodding before he turned his back on her and stared, wide-eyed, at the ground. Who was she!? He attempted to walk faster, trying not to get caught on the straps on the back of his pants. So far, he hadn't failed. But he had shouldered a couple people to shove past them in his search for a temporary place to stay. He tried to zone out whatever she was saying - if anything - and refused to try and turn his head over his shoulder to see if she was following him. He was scared ... who was she? What was she trying to do? He kept thinking over the same questions - and almost as if by instinct, he ducked into a quiet alleyway, leading to a rather shady-looking door, and shouldering it open without revealing what was under his cloak.

Upon entering the run-down place, he came to the conclusion it was an unused bar. The way he continued to walk through the bar, it was as if he had been there before ... as if he lived there and he knew exactly where he was going. He continued forward, across the creaking wooden floor. Through an archway, Nero ascended a set of stairs, and once he made it to the second floor landing, he shouldered the door to a bedroom open, looking about the room with his bright, terrified eyes, Nero shook his head to attempt to bring the hood further. He stared at a blank wall for a moment, blinking a couple times before he turned around again, unsure of whether or not the girl had actually followed him. He hadn't any idea where they were - but she seemed to think he did, claiming to be 'lost' as well. Maybe she knew where Weiss was ... maybe she was supposed to point him in the right direction ... ! Maybe, she wasn't so scary, after all. ” … Yu … me… ?” He croaked, almost shyly, as if wondering if he had heard her name correctly – but also as if checking to make sure she had still followed him and was willing to answer his question – even if he didn’t say anything more.

" This place looks pretty empty ... " One of the WRO soldiers mumbled, walking around the inside of the Mako reactor. His heavy footsteps echoed alone, for a moment, before he was joined by another set. " Think Sephiroth could really do this? " He asked, hitting a couple buttons on one of the nearest pipes, in order to shut down any activity within the main center of it completely. How did everything turn on so ... simultaneously? It had to be some sort of other-worldly power. Nothing like this happened except ... well, when Sephiroth came back ... that was the only time anything in comparison had happened.
" Who knows. " his partner commented, taking a few steps further into the reactor. " As far as I know, some kid was just ******** around here " He muttered irritably.
" Guess we'll all find out sooner or later -- " The first mumbled, turning his head in the direction of what sounded like 'dewwy dewwy.' At the sight of a little white ... fluffy creature, the man blinked, staring at it for a moment. When he had come to the conclusion that it was what had created the noise, he shivered slightly and rose his gun to aim it at the little creature. " W-what are you?! What are you doing here?! " He asked loudly, looking to the man behind him. " T-tell Tseng we got something here! " He ordered, directing his attention back to the white ... thing.

He kept his gun trained while the other soldier retrieved his cell phone, dialing Tseng's number instantly, awaiting the calm and collected voice to answer on the other side. When his call was answered, the soldier began to rattle off what was happening. " And sir! There's a strange creature here ... definitely not from Gaia. Shall we exterminate it? " He asked, directing his gaze toward his partner and the little creature again. When issued the order to hold their position, the soldier hung up and awaited the arrival of the Turks.

In the helicopter, Tseng instructed Reno to land outside the Nibelheim reactor. When they had landed, Tseng instructed Reno to stay put ( who nodded in response ) before entering the reactor and spotting the two WRO soldiers. His eyes instantly directed over to the white, fluffy creature. It hadn't been too long since he had received the call - maybe two minutes or so. " ... This is the creature? "
One of the soldiers nodded, saluting Tseng instantly.
" ... Lower your weapon. " Tseng muttered, subtly rolling his eyes before looking at the white creature again. " ... You said it can speak? " He asked, walking beyond the two soldiers and toward the little fluffy thing, getting on one knee to get a better look at the rabbit-like creature. " Can you tell me who you are? " He asked, narrowing his eyes with nothing but determination behind his eyes.
--
While the reactors were being inspected, Rufus ShinRA, himself, had opted to take his leave, toward Junon. If they were to be prepared for Sephiroth's arrival again ... things would need to be started up. The canon would need to be charged, and areas would need surveillance. He had neglected to tell the Turks where he was going, but he didn't need permission any more - he was the President. If he wanted to take proper precautions without the Turks around, he could. All he needed was one of the technologically savvy people around. And Reeve Tuesti was but a phone call away. Therefore, Rufus was completely, and utterly, fine. He had a junior Turk fly him to Junon, landing on the outskirts so the young man would be able to return to Midgar without much of a hassle.

Hn. Sephiroth wouldn't expect them to be so ready so soon - they were going to be prepared this time around. Not even the great Nightmare would take them all by surprise.

As he arrived at Junon's outskirts, the President made sure to blend with the small crowds of people. Most people knew not to speak directly to him. Rufus was very careful about who he spoke to. Most of the time, he didn't speak to the commoners, merely the people who were important to him; people of power, people from 'out of town,' and people who could affect his ruling over Gaia. Yes, he liked to make good impressions, so he would flash a quick smile to those who seemed to watch him before he continued to walk on. If he had trusted the young Turk enough to allow him on to the Junon Heli-pad, he wouldn't have to walk through these civilians, but - Junon was his hometown. These buildings were familiar to him, he didn't mind walking through it to get where he needed.

Making sure to keep an average pace, the blond flipped his hair every so often, and attempted not to set any one off with any suspicious behavior. Though, as he walked, he heard a couple of people - perhaps two or three - inquiring about ShinRA to some random passerby's. Who didn't know where ShinRA was located? It almost disappointed him to know that someone needed to ask. No one seemed to respond to their inquiries, but Rufus didn't exactly stop to point them in the correct direction. So instead of completely ignoring the group, he slowly walked beyond them, watching them through his peripheral vision, as if attempting to figure out who they were ... perhaps another rebellion group. Hn. How annoying - but it didn't strike him as an immediate concern. Right now, he had the return of Sephiroth to worry over.
--
Sephiroth, whose eyes were focused amongst a large mansion-like home, landed in the decrepit city of Mideel. His wing was folded back, out of sight as he gently pushed the door open. Scanning the inner living area, Sephiroth's cat-like eyes picked up on every detail, every bit of dust, and every part of broken wood. Yes, no one would find him in such a miserable place. And that was all he needed. Unlike the temporarily content Sephiroth, Weiss the Immaculate, was tossing things into disarray in Gongaga. He wasn't sure WHAT he was supposed to do. Should he leave? Should he stay there, wait for something to happen? What if someone saw him? Would he be safe if he just went out and tried to figure out how to get everything back the way it was?

Weiss' mind swarmed with thoughts before he irritably kicked an old, antique table over onto its side, inevitably snapping two of the legs of it in the process. " Where do I go? " He muttered to himself, glowering at the dismantled table on the floor. He needed get somewhere. Maybe Costa de Sol. Maybe even Cosmo Canyon - anywhere. He needed to figure out how he was going to go about destroying the tainted with just himself. Tch. Sephiroth could do it - and what sort of person would he, Weiss, be if he couldn't match up to the "Nightmare" and his killing streak? Tch. Weiss could do it all himself. He just .. needed to make the time to do it.

Nero shuddered slightly when she responded, acknowledging the door was now occupied by the girl. Swallowing hard, Nero shouldered the cloak so the hood was no longer covering much of his face. When his crimson eyes were completely revealed, he watched her, blinking a couple times before nodding at her presence. Yes – she couldn’t have been bad … she was being nice. ” I … Nero. “ He blinked, croaking out his name. There, that was his introduction. And that was the best he was going to give, at least for his name. Rolling his shoulders a little, Nero got the cloak off entirely, waiting to see if the girl would run from his, what he considered, intimidating stature. His mechanic wings, with robotic hands atop them, extended before he chewed on his muzzle lightly, losing all sense of fear around the girl.

” Are you going to help me find my brother? “ He asked, looking at her almost expectantly.

If she chose to run from him, he wouldn't be going after her. He would stay put, pull the cloak on again, and try to find Weiss. Without him, Nero wouldn't be able to function correctly. At one point or another he would lose all control of his power and engulf the entire planet.

---

The two WRO soldiers stood back, watching as Tseng did his work – almost admiring his ability to approach this little creature without making sure it was indisposed … or not capable of harming them. Tseng, though, saw nothing impressive about his actions. In fact, he often frowned upon merely approaching a subject without first determining how dangerous it was. To his luck, he was able to find a creature that he could consider near-harmless without having to shoot at it, first.

” Dewwy … dewwy? “ Tseng asked, blinking his chocolate-colored eyes at the creature. ” You are in a mako reactor in Nibelhiem. A mako reactor that is supposed to be shut down and inoperable – how did you get in here? “ Tseng questioned, his lips forming a slight frown as his inability to determine an answer for himself. There was always the assumption that the little creature snuck in through the supposed-to-be-sealed door when the soldiers entered … but assumptions weren’t quite Tseng’s forte.

” Would you be willing to come back to ShinRA? “ He asked, his features still reading as stoic and unchanging.

.. What in ShinRA's name was a "Dewwy Dewwy?"

---

“ Rich man. ” Well, that certainly caught his attention. Rufus stopped in his steps, turning his head slightly to see the man referring to, presumably, himself as “ Stanz. ” Sushi? As in fish? As in ... food? Rufus’ brow quirked before he turned his entire body around to see who he was talking to. With his arms crossed inconspicuously over his chest, Rufus’ expression remained the same – almost interested in what this little creature had to say. ” As far as I am concerned, Gaia does not muddle in the works of ‘sushi.’ “ He responded first, before bringing a semi-gloved hand to his bangs in order to “flip” them out of his eyes.

Directing his gaze to a store almost directly in front of him, Rufus recognized it as bar – normally popular at night. Some place his Turks found to be amusing, or something. So, he made a gesture with his head towards a building behind him. Yes, a weapons shop with a broken, barely determinable sign above it. ” If I am not mistaken, there is an offering of a free meal – your choosing – for any party of three. “ He lied. Yes, he blatantly lied. If these people were of Gaia they would be wise enough to second guess the President, but they wouldn’t actually question him.

So maybe he was lying, maybe he was putting a creative plan into play – who knew? Rufus certainly wouldn’t tell.

FOUR

-------------------

Nero stared for a moment, watching as the girl unveiled her own secret appearance. He merely watched, not saying much, a little interested in where she was from … but he didn’t quite understand what was going on with this girl. He took a slowly took a step toward her, blinking his crimson eyes as he seemed preoccupied by her ears. Reaching a mechanical hand out, he lightly poked one of her ears before returning his pseudo-hand to its original position. Listening to ask for a description of Weiss, he shivered slightly … what if he had changed his appearance?

” I .. I … His name is Weiss … his hair is white … and he’s older … but I don’t .. “ Behind his muzzle, he frowned, but didn’t show it very much. He didn’t like being away from Weiss. It made him feel … useless … and powerless. What was he supposed to do?!

Where were they supposed to look?! Where could he possibly be?!

But the remarks the girl made rose his optimism a little. She was going to help him find Weiss … And that was a good thing – right? ” I can get us somewhere … once I’ve regained a bit of energy. “ He nodded, chewing his muzzle, almost excitedly. All he needed was a bit of rest …

--

Tseng’s eyes watched over the little creature. He watched as the little thing ran up his arm. He slowly stood up, making sure the thing didn’t fall off. ” Well then, Dewwy. I’m certain we can find somewhere to keep you until everything here is under control. “ He nodded, having almost no problem speaking to an odd creature. By now, with things that had happened in the past, Tseng found no problem speaking to Dewwy and accepted her excuse. With the creature on her shoulder, she looked to the two WRO soldiers, nodding to them as if to instruct them to continue their search within the reactor.

” I hope you do not mind a short ride in a helicopter. “ Tseng muttered, nodding slightly before exiting the reactor, himself, and making his way to the helicopter. Outside the large machine, his red-headed subordinate stood, smoking a cigarette while leaning on the frame. Looking to the man, Tseng nodded once more. ” We’ll be going to the newly constructed ShinRA building. “ He nodded, looking to Reno.

The red head took his time to flick the cigarette butt out of his mouth and climb back into the pilot’s seat while his superior followed suit, also climbing up into the helicopter with the little creature still on his shoulder.

--

Well, clearly this little cretin was very protective over his food. Rufus’ brow rose again at his outburst. Interesting. So he understood the difference between a food shop and weapons store. ” Hn. “ He mused, watching as the second man approached the “Stanz” person. Raising a blond brow again, and placing a hand on his hip, Rufus flipped his bangs once more before looking at the secondary person. ” I suppose he is forgiven. “

Directing his blue eyes to the secondary, he began to question where this curious pair had come from. ” Now then, I presume his name is Stanz … and you would be … ? “ He inquired, refraining from tilting his head and flipping his hair once more. If he was correct, this was part of the group he had overheard questioning about the location of ShinRA.

It wasn’t very often for Rufus to stop and get to know some commoners. And he had things to tend to. ” Terribly sorry, this meeting must be made brief. I have some business to attend to. Threats to Gaia’s populous must be dealt with, you understand. “

--

Sephiroth hadn’t been expecting much. For his “first day back” he had intended to merely “regain” his power lost through the Lifesteam. However, while his thoughts seemed to distract him from reality while he stood in the doorway of the abandoned mansion, a little creature appeared in front of him. The sound of a … whatever sort of creature it was … instantly drew his distant eyes down to the black creature in front of him. Such big golden eyes … he was almost curious to investigate. Instead, he merely shook his head and directed his gaze forward again.

He attempted to do some calculating. How long would he need before he was certain he was powerful enough to return to his mission for JENOVA? And how long before ShinRA inevitably found him? So many questions, some without answers – some to be answered too late.

Gently, the ex-general nudged the little creature with his leather boot in order to try and get it out of the way. Gaia’s creatures certainly had changed while he was gone. He didn’t want some pest following him into the mansion – all he needed was himself. And some things … but no little creature like this would interrupt.

Five

------------

Nero nodded a little, chewing his muzzle before sitting on the old, ragged bed against a rather decrepit looking wall. ” … I think an hour or so will do. “ He muttered, finally returning to a more composed manner, now that he was aware this person wasn’t out to kill him. Whenever he was threatened, Nero resorted to an almost-childlike state of mind. But once he was able to compose himself … he was able to make one, barely-passable, young-adult. To answer he next question, Nero had to direct his eyes to the ceiling, then back to the floor in thought.

The best he could give her for an age would be a guess … he wasn’t sure how long he had been “ dead “ for. And judging by the change of Midgar .. he wouldn’t even be able to tell what year it was without asking someone who seemed a little less loss than this Yume girl. So he shuddered slightly in thought, chewing his muzzle once more.

” … I … might be twenty-eight. “ He nodded slowly, trying to figure out how long he had been locked up in DeepGround and how long he had actually spent on the surface … how long it had been since he died … so many complicated questions he couldn’t answer. So, he merely gave her an estimation. If she was going to ask him about it, more he would merely state he was unsure. Closing his crimson eyes, Nero remained silent, as if attempting to re-absorb power he had lost during his minor inconvenience and original placement in the far mountains. His darkness had began getting out control there … but now he was calm, again.

--

Tseng, completely unaware of what was running through Dewwy Dewwy’s mind, proceeded to carry on his duties with the little creature still perched on his shoulder. At the smoking comment, Reno merely rolled his eyes with a quiet “tell me somethin’ I don’t know” comment shortly after.

While giving a quick summary, to Reno, about what to do with Dewwy Dewwy, the helicopter went directly to the recently recreated ShinRA building. It hadn’t taken more than thirty minutes before Tseng and Reno were both back at the ShinRA building, the heli-pad now occupied by the chopper. After placing a quick call to Rude and Elena – insisting they continued the work of their superiors in checking the reactors -, Tseng lead Reno and “carried” Dewwy Dewwy with him to the inside of the building. As if by instinct, the raven haired leader headed instantly for an empty room with only a table and few chairs within it.

Turning his head to look at Dewwy Dewwy, he subtly rose a brow and gestured slightly to the table. ” Dewwy, would you sit there? “ He inquired, making a motion to Reno with his hand to signify he should shut the door and take a seat.

With a loud yawn, Reno stretched his arms above his head and took a seat in one of the empty chairs next to the stable. Almost instantly, he leaned the chair backwards and propped his feet up on the table. ” Interrogation of a little rabbit. How the hell y’gonna file this one, chief? “ Reno laughed aloud, shaking his head while his boss merely ignored him, thinking of how he was going to interrogate “Dewwy” and get straight-enough answers from her.

--

Rufus’ attention was truly captured after Melanor had introduced himself. Once he had mentioned something about meeting in a less crowded area, Rufus crossed his arms over his chest and eyed the blond one. ” … Hn. Then you know about Sephiroth. “ He muttered, mostly to himself, before focusing his blue eyes on the blond man in front of him. ” Very well, come with me. “ He near-demanded while making a quick motion with his hand. After flipped his hair, Rufus walked quickly beyond the two and took only one turn before entering the bar he had recognized earlier. Narrowing his eyes at the bartender, the elder man nodding in response, Rufus turned his head over his shoulder to make sure the other group had been following him.

If this entire meeting turned out to be a waste of his time … someone was going to have to pay for it.

Descending a set of stairs almost-immediately adjacent to the entrance, Rufus walked. He knew full-well that the lower part of the bar would be empty – for it was mid-day and no one used the evening part of the bar unless it was evening. The moment he reached the lower level, Rufus pulled out his cell phone, dialing the number of a confidant he knew in Junon – the man he was going to meet before this little meeting seemed to pop up in his schedule. ” I’m going to be running a bit late – seems a lead of some sort has come up. Make sure everything is prepared by the time I get there, or you’ll be staring at a line in unemployment. “ With those few swift sentences, Rufus hung up his phone, looking to the people he had just instructed to follow him. Stanz, Melanor … and someone else.

Whomever he was, Rufus had no doubt he would find out sooner than not. ” Now then, what is it you want to talk about? “ His inquiry was quick, sharp, and fierce. Clearly, he was entirely focused on the matters at hand – Rufus didn’t play games when it came to keeping this – no, his planet safe.

--

If he hadn’t been expecting some kind of reaction from the creature, the sudden perching on his shoulder would have surprised him – but instead, all he did was turn his head to look at the bug-eyed mutant. The sentence that spewed from its mouth only got a slight quirk of his eyebrow in response. Taking the opposing gloved hand, Sephiroth grabbed the little thing and held it out in front of his face. He narrowed his cat-like eyes on it, as if expecting whatever the answers to the questions he was thinking would just roll right out of it. When nothing came, Sephiroth’s lips formed a slight frown.

” What do you want? “ Blunt. To the point. He always seemed to have such direct questions. Truth be told, he hated conversations about things that wouldn’t answer his questions. He hated avoiding the point. ” What are you? “ He inquired shortly after, eyeing the little thing a little more before he had decided on another question to ask. Whatever it was, it was rather ... ugly.

Watching the big, yellow-tinted eyes of the thing, Sephiroth awaited his answers. Only a couple of the many he had. But he could take his time with these questions – he was in rush. At least, not yet. ShinRA was probably preparing for an all-out defense against anything he could throw at them. Laying low would certainly take him off their radar, if they had even picked up on any of the strange things of the planet, particularly recently. He assumed they had, and therefore, was giving himself some time to fall off their radar as a suspect. Once their defenses were low … then that would be the time to strike.

But right now … he had a fluffy little creature to deal with.

-----------------------------

SIX

-----------------------------

Almost thirty … he didn’t feel that old. He felt … younger. Like a teenager. ” … My brother is over thirty … “ He muttered, looking to Yume the moment he opened his eyes again. ” He still acts the same … “ He mumbled, shaking his head. Nothing changed through age. Age was just a number, right? All that mattered was … what had Weiss said? All that mattered was … power … power and … something else. He couldn’t remember. He shuddered slightly at the idea he couldn’t recall that last part.

At her next question, Nero tilted his head to the right a little. ” I don’t sleep. I just need to stop using a lot of energy. “ He nodded, chewing the muzzle as the anxiousness sunk in again. He was going to search for Weiss with some girl’s help. Well – not just some girl, her name was Yume. And she had ears ... and bushy tail. His eyes focused on the tail, before he blinked a little to bring himself out of the semi-daze. ” … Can you fight? “ The thought finally struck him … searching for Weiss wasn’t going to be the same as taking a walk through the park. No, Gaia was infested with monsters and people who wanted strangers dead.

No one was safe on Gaia.

--

Tseng nodded toward Dewwy, slightly raising a brow at her. At least she was going to answer the questions. Crossing his arms, Tseng stared at her, contemplating what he was going to ask to get what he needed. Suddenly, with a harsh scraping of the chair against the floor, Reno spoke up. ” So, where are ya’ from? “ He questioned, tilting his head to the side and raising a red brow in question. He wasn’t trying to make conversation, just get the basics. Was the thing from Nibelheim or was it from some other town? ” Chief says your name is Dewwy – who named ya’? “ There he went, going off on a tangent of questions while Tseng narrowed his chocolate-colored eyes on Reno, who just continued to watch the little creature with no true interest at all.

” … Dewwy, this is Reno. “ He introduced after Reno’s questions, shaking his head at his subordinates inability to contain his boredom.

Rufus listened to Melanor, Stanz, and Durin. Folding his arms, his blue eyes scanned over them all. What sort of mockery of ShinRA was this? They expected him to believe what they spewed? Hn. As much as he didn’t want to believe what they were saying, something in him told him he had to. There was no way Sephiroth could have caused this much chaos amongst the reactors alone. The first time he returned, he had been crystallized in mako … the second time was because of the JENOVA cells. This time … there was extra power added to the planet as a whole? Rufus didn’t believe.

As for the IDs, he could care less. The only people with IDs who mattered were employees of ShinRA. Drawing out his phone, Rufus dialed another number. The moment the other man answered, Rufus closed his eyes inhaling slightly before calmly explaining to Reeve Tuesti he would not be arriving to the designated area on time. ” Reeve. You will be filling my spot in Junon’s Military Defense, for now. Have you any questions, contact me immediately. Anyone who objects to your placement is fired. “ Waiting for a two-word response, and the expected chuckle from the normally-jolly Reeve. Hanging up after the response, Rufus returned his attention to the Three Stooges again.

The descriptions of the three people brought to life stirred in Rufus’ mind. He knew the descriptions, as much as he could recall, anyway.

” And how am I supposed to rest assured that none of you have any vendetta against ShinRA? “ He narrowed his eyes. ” How can I be assured that everything wasn’t merely done by Sephiroth and you three are headed for ShinRA’s power? “ He paused, chuckling quietly to himself. No, no, they weren’t there to take ShinRA’s power. Otherwise, they would have avoided all conversation with the President, himself. ” You’ll have to pardon my behavior – the threat of Sephiroth arising again is … disconcerting. “ He smirked, flipping his bangs away, once more. ” You three aren’t from Gaia, at all, you say? Then where are you from and who are you looking for? What does she look like? Perhaps we can work something out. “

--

Sephiroth let go of the creature, watching it fall to the floor. He scowled slightly, crossing his arms and rolling his eyes. He snorted quietly to himself, focusing his bright eyes on the black creature. Hearing its answer, he walked beyond the creature to explore the inside of the dismantled house. ” I don’t need a tag-along. “ He hissed irritably, finding his way to the kitchen-area of the home. He pulled open a few cabinets, slamming them shut almost instantly. He continued his actions for a few more moment before he found what he was looking for – coffee. Something he could drink that would “wake” him up. His mind was still … rather clouded from being in the LifeStream.

What am I, you asked? I am the Nightmare. The legendary powerful being of Gaia. The chosen one of JENOVA to take the planet. That is all that I am. “ He mumbled, emptying a cup and beginning to make himself some of the coffee using the old-looking maker sitting on the table-top. Turning his back to the machine, he stared at the black creature. ” What on Gaia makes you believe I am entertaining, in the least? “ He shook his head, rubbing his temples in order to try and clear his mind..

He watched her. His crimson eyes focused on her, watching as she stared at the wall. He chewed on the muzzle. She was strange … but not a bad person. She was just weird. At least she wasn’t trying to kill him … she was a good person. Not the kind of good person that wanted him and his brother dead … a generally good person. Someone who was going to be nice to him and had even offered to help him find Weiss. She was – what did they call people like her? – a friend? Yes – a friend.

Nero nodded slightly at the girl’s response. Well, if she couldn’t fight he would have to take care of her. He closed his eyes, devising a plot that would let him fight for himself, but also keep the girl safe. Maybe she could handle a gun … no, his guns were special. He could fight off some monsters. He wouldn’t use his “special powers” for some stupid monsters … most could sense his darkness and would keep away. But there was always that mass that would come after him for the mere reason he was wandering the lands. ” I can fend for the both of us. I’ve got good aim. “ He nodded, trying to be as assuring as he could be.

---

Reno’s questions were getting them nowhere. Tseng sent a warning glare to him before Reno could open his mouth and make another useless remark. ” Dewwy, do you know how you got here? Or how all the mako reactors are running? “ He questioned, looking at the creature and calling her name in order to gain her attention. The dark haired man, opened his mouth to ask a follow-up question, but he was cut off yet again.

” Wait, chief named you? Ha! Check it out, boss! You got yourself a pet! “

Tseng brought a palm to his face, frowning at Reno’s remark. ” Reno, just be quiet for a little while. “ He muttered quietly, not really taking the remark about naming the creature seriously. While he attempted to get his subordinate to be quiet, Reno merely laughed aloud, leaning back in his chair once again.

---

Rufus looked at Durin, raising a golden brow at the boy, he frowned slightly. ” I see. “ The only response he muttered to the loud claims he made. Perhaps he didn’t understand because he was of a “different” planet, but ShinRA had quite a few people against them. Recently crushing most of the rebellions, it could only be expected that some would stand as an alliance during a time of chaos.

Flipping his golden bangs, he sat down comfortably in a chair, watching Melanor; so many names for one girl. He leaned on his palm, taking in all the information they had offered. Well, that shouldn’t be too hard to find – assuming she stayed in one town and didn’t move around too much. Otherwise, it was going to be another search-and-capture mission. Without SOLDIERS, all that remained were the WRO and the Turks. The Turks had business they were doing … so the WRO was his best choice, for now.

” Assuming we can find this girl, will all return to how it was? The dead will be returned to their graves and the living will … remain so? Perhaps the once-dead beings will need to be destroyed once more? “ He asked, tapping his cheek with a finger. ” What is this ‘game’ you spoke of? Is our planet nothing but a board in which to play this game? Our people nothing but pawns? “ For a man insinuating he was insulted by being part of the ‘game,’ Rufus sounded rather calm and relaxed … like a professional business man of sorts.

---

Sephiroth’s cat-like gaze landed upon the creature again. He watched it, almost with a bored glaze on his eyes. He remained silent until his coffee had finished, and he poured the liquid into a cup. He inhaled the scent momentarily; he then drank the hot coffee slowly. Directing his bored gaze back to the creature, he frowned. ” I enjoy what I do, yes. I would enjoy it more if I didn’t have some little creature following me. “

With that remark, Sephiroth walked out of the old kitchen, making himself comfortable on the rather tattered couch. He decided not to watch the little cretin, whether or not it had followed him, before he stretched out on the couch. Yes, it was rather out of character for him, but Sephiroth couldn’t merely “come back to life” and go out. He needed to replenish all the energy he had lost from being ‘dead’ for so long. Power wasn’t simply given … it took time. " I'm not all that certain what you expect me to do. " He muttered, almost irritated that some creature was going to be following him around.

Nero watched her. When she asked to know about him, he was – to say the least – surprised. He had never actually explained anything about himself to anyone before. What was he going to say? What should he say? What would be best? What should be kept away from her? Well … guess he had to decide those things for himself. ” … My full title is Nero the Sable. “ He began , blinking and directing his gaze to the floor while he tried to figure out what to say. ” I was – no, I am a Tsviet and my brother leads us. I was born underground … and I was practically raised there, but because of my power, I was always restrained. “ He chewed his muzzle, hoping he hadn’t said too much before he looked to her. ” I have power of darkness, but my control is very little. I can’t seem to keep it concentrated enough to not destroy everything. “ He nodded slightly – that was enough, wasn’t it? If she had questions, she could ask.

That’s not to say he would answer her, though. He was content with how much he had told her. He was contented that he was able to tell someone about his past. His inability to control his violent power – and none of it seemed too bad, right? There were people with worse stories on Gaia – wasn’t there? He hadn’t even told her about his mother yet, and he still seemed like a pretty good person – didn’t he? He continued to second guess himself. Nero wasn’t sure right now – was what he said good enough that Weiss wouldn’t scold him for it later?

He watched the way she seemed to get herself comfortable on the floor. He almost envied the fact she could do that - but said nothing. He could hang from the ceiling, if he wanted to ... but that would just be - what Weiss called - "showing off."

---

Tseng listened to Dewwy – wait, why would she follow him? Because he found her? That didn’t make sense – but he didn’t quite have the time to press the matter. The teleportation answer didn’t quite give him what he was looking for, either. When she failed to answer his question about what was going on, she proved to be less than helpful. So, she didn’t know anything, at all? Then what was the point of continuing to talk to her? The moment she pounced on Reno, though, Tseng couldn’t help a small smirk before he covered his mouth. ” Are you alright, Reno? “ He asked, stopping himself from laughing at his subordinates misfortune.

With an irritated huff, Reno stayed on the floor, glaring at the ceiling. ” … just … fantastic, boss. “ He growled, muttering something about ‘stupid rabbit’ before he sat up on the floor. It took him a minute before he pulled up the chair again, sitting with his arms crossed and expression almost annoyed. ” Guess I deserved that one. “ He muttered, justifying himself for not smacking the little rabbit.

Tseng chuckled quietly into his fist, avoiding any eye contact before looking to Reno with a subtle sense of amusement. ” I told you, you shouldn’t be leaning in those chairs. “ Reno stuck out his tongue at his boss before Tseng regained himself and narrowed his eyes on Dewwy. ” So you haven’t any idea of what is happening here – on this planet – Gaia? “

---

Rufus remained silent while all three of the men threw in what they needed to say. He interlocked his fingers and leaned forward on the table in front of him, eyes on which ever was speaking, respectively. Interesting – this girl must have been what was the cause of all this dystopia. Rufus, though, continued to listen. So he wasn’t supposed to actually know this was a ‘game,’ and he wasn’t allowed to actually do much about it – Sephiroth would need to be re-defeated. One could only imagine what sort of hell that would bring. This was, perhaps, the fourth time he’d returned to the surface? Something told him that Sephiroth wouldn’t be going down very easy this time.

When the three had finally finished, he brought his hands to his chin, leaning his mouth on the pale extensions and eyeing all three men in the quiet. Well, what was he to do? Simply accept their explanations and form an alliance? He took a moment to think to himself, his blue eyes focused on the middle of the table. Yes, it seemed his best choice was to accept their help – but what could they do for him? All the stations were manned – what were their strengths?

” Tell me, if I accept your help, what is it you would all be doing? Searching out this girl, no doubt. Would you be requiring any particular services of mine or shall we just be ‘keeping in touch?’ “ Of course, there were other things he wanted to know, though he assumed everything else would be explained to him in due time. All he needed to do right now was establish ShinRA’s position and what he was expected to do – and vice versa.

---

Sephiroth stared as the creature jumped onto his chest. He frowned slightly as it suggested it would want to be pat. He frowned, lifting a gloved hand and patting it’s head once. ” I don’t need a pet. Particularly a little … rabbit that claims to be a dragon of sorts. “ He muttered, sipping down the rest of his coffee. Placing the empty cup on the floor, Sephiroth narrowed his eyes on the creature. What amusement could a man sitting and plotting serve? He shrugged it off, rolling his neck and grabbing the little thing’s collar again before standing up and placing it in the palm of his other hand.

” I shall warn you now, so you aren’t surprised – if you get in my way, at all, I will have no problem disposing of you. “ He warned, placing his free hand on his hip and keeping his eyes on the little thing. He recalled something, after a moment’s pause – the fluffy creature had said he wasn’t from this planet – and that caused Sephiroth to become more curious. ” What planet are you from, if you are not from Gaia? “ His interest suddenly piqued as he asked the question – if there was another planet so full of life … then JENOVA could have her way with one …

Oh, the very possibilities.

---

Weiss, who was becoming incredibly frustrated with the empty Gongaga shoved another table over in the empty house before kicking the front door open with rage in his eyes. Yes – he was irritated. Brought back to some place he couldn’t even get out of. How many times had been to the continent? Only a couple of times. It wasn’t as if he’d memorized the layout of the damn place – and even if he had, what use would it be? He had no means of transportation aside from walking. Damn it, whose bright idea was it to bring him back to Gongaga, anyway?

Slowly, Weiss began to calm himself, leaving the old house. He wandered around the open area for a minute or so before deciding he was going to try and find his way to Costa de Sol. From there, he could just find a way to cross the damn ocean without running across every continent to get there.

But which way was it? Great question.

His first instinct was to head south. So he started down the dirt path until he found the forest once again, opposing the fully visible landscape behind him that held all the homes. So focused within his own thought, Weiss missed the sudden surge of power the planet offered up in an area close to him. But he missed it – too involved in his own thoughts.

Racist? What did she mean by that? He shrugged it off though. His name symbolized his power – he instantly assumed she understood that, and felt no need to elaborate. His eyes focused on the ball, watching as she bounced it around. Nero was distracted by the ball as she spoke to him, but he did happen to catch what she said. He merely didn’t respond. He watched the ball, watched her keep bouncing it until the ball started to go out of control. He tried to keep up with it, but he lost sight of the bright ball at one point.

As the ball neared his head, the mechanical hand reached up and grabbed the ball. He blinked, directing his eyes to the now captured ball. Amusing himself for a moment, he tossed the ball to his other mechanical hand. He tossed the ball back and forth, almost amused. His distracted eyes followed the ball, finally deciding to catch it on the right one before he was finished playing around. Returning his eyes to Yume, he shrugged a little. ” My brother was always there … it wasn’t all bad. “ He explained, gently tossing the yellow ball back to her.

---

Tseng blinked, patting Dewwy lightly and looking toward Reno again. The man looked angry for a moment, but he brushed himself down and leaned back in his chair, hands above his head. Tseng’s attention was take from the red head to Dewwy once more. Catalyst? Now they were getting somewhere. He looked curiously at her. They needed answers … finally he was understanding – simple questions would mean simple, but informative, answers. Even Reno’s expression read a bit surprised at Dewwy’s answer. Nodding at his subordinate, Tseng was full composed and Reno took on a serious expression.

” Who is this Catalyst? “ He asked, watching Dewwy with his focused eyes, quirking a brow slightly.

” What do ya’ mean the world is adapting to her? “ Reno asked almost immediately after. He stared at the little creature, moving his chair so he was next to his boss and staring dead-on at the little rabbit-thing in front of him.

---

Inwardly, Rufus smirked. Very well – they were at his disposal. He nodded slightly, thinking over what he could offer to the three with him right now. He smirked, closing his eyes and standing up. ” Now then, I can offer you use of my army, the Turks, and as many weapons as you may require. In order for you three and I to be able to work in unison, you’ll be required to come with me to the base in this city. “ He said, nodding his head, directing his gaze toward Durin for a moment before looking at the other two, as well. ” I’m terribly sorry to inconvenience any of you in your search, but everything must go according to ShinRA rules, so none of you are marked as enemies. Should that happen, I wouldn’t be able to promise the safe return of any of you. “

He nodded once more, making a gesture with is hand for the three to follow him. ” I have no particular questions for you, at this time. However, I cannot speak for the others. I expect you will be as willing to explain to them as you are to me. I can take care of the basic explanation, but the specifics will be directed to you. “ He continued, walking back up the stairs of the bar and exiting the main building back onto the street. They weren’t too much further from the “base” in Junon, so he decided they would just walk. Being seen with the President instantly gained any individual immunity from society, particularly if they were seen with him in a casual fashion, and not that of an arrested fashion. " I assume the three of you have no problem taking a short walk, hm? "

---

Sephiroth watched the display of power, backing up slightly from the gashes and violence. He snickered, shaking his head. ” And here I thought I was mentally unstable from the return. “ He mused, accepting that … this little demon thing was giving off the immense amount of power he could feel. His lips formed a smirk as he looked at the “dragon” again. ” Perhaps I underestimated you. “ His green eyes directed back toward the mess in the house; he was quite impressed such a little creature could conjure up such power. His mind was stable – the first sign of a good restart.

” Tell me, what should I call you – name wise? “ He quirked a brow, crossing his arms over his chest and smirking ever so slightly. ” I assume you already know I am Sephiroth. “ He chuckled quietly. Perhaps having this little “tagalong” wouldn’t be nearly as bad as he had imagined, now that he was aware this thing held quite a bit of power for himself. A potential companion ... dragon of death. How very, very interesting.

---

Weiss was hardly paying attention when he heard a quiet “excuse me.” Manners? At a time like this? He didn’t see the occasion, but turned his head in interest at the first sign of human life. He rose his visible eyebrow while he looked at the source of the noise. Someone dressed as a SOLDIER? Hn. The guy was behind on the times. He turned around to face the man, crossing his arms and ceasing in all his steps. ” .. What? “ He asked, eyeing the man from afar.

He felt as if he should recognize the man, but nothing came to mind. No name … but the face seemed to ring a bell … but the name wouldn’t come to mind. So he merely stared at the man. Still trying to figure out a name. Instead of making a fool of himself, he snorted quietly and lifted his own chin to appear taller than he truly was. ” Who are you? “ He questioned almost immediately.

Nero simply shrugged at her remark about having someone around. It was nice … but when Weiss was in a bad mood, it was best not to argue with him. And Nero had come to the conclusion simply by watching him interact. He had yet to actually fight with his own brother, himself. So he remained quiet on that matter. Maybe it was simply because they were brothers and Nero felt they got along well enough, he needn’t comment on it … maybe there was another reason. But her next question brought him out of his daze. How did he get … what? Oh, his wings and hands … right. He directed his gaze to the two metallic wings and mechanical hands… how had he gotten them? He could barely recall … it was some time before he was permanently locked away … but not so recent he could remember.

” I think Argento made them for me … maybe ten years ago. “ He tried to think, maybe it was even longer than that. He could barely remember beyond the last five years … being tied up then released … then killed? Yeah, his memory was fairing worse than normal. Standing himself up, suddenly but slowly, Nero looked to Yume.

” We should start looking, now. “ He suggested, before looking to Yume and nodding. Standing behind the girl, he gradually brought wisps of black around the two of them, before they were both fully engulfed in the darkness. He had brought them somewhere where he felt he was reading Weiss’ power. Of course, a couple of mixed signals occurred, so they were somewhere on the western continent – away from Midgar and all the noise … more towards the Cosmo Canyon area … but not quite out of the forests.

Well, it seemed he had a bit more focusing to do before he brought the two of them somewhere else.

---

Tseng nodded slightly as his question was answered, unfazed as Reno collided his face with the table when he failed to get an accurate answer. Tseng shook his head, returning to his questions for Dewwy. ” Do you know where we can find her? “ He asked, trying to keep his questions simple and refraining from using words that might confuse the little thing …

” Could you tell us what she looks like? “ He inquired shortly after, tilting his head at the slightest angle in curiosity. He had plenty of questions now – was she dangerous, could she reverse the effects … but he wanted to take everything slowly. He had to keep in mind he was dealing with a rather … slow witness. Not that she was stupid … she just failed to comprehend his generally lengthy questions. He didn’t wish to confuse her with too many questions at once, or ask extremely relaxed, open-ended questions like Reno had … now that he knew how to get information, it merely was a matter of time before they had everything they needed.

” Yo – is the catalyst chick dangerous? “ Reno decided to try again, after Tseng’s questions, raising his head only slightly off the table, about ready to smash it in again if she failed to answer his question.

---
Rufus nodded at Durin’s comments, beginning to lead them all down the long street toward the main station of ShinRA’s Junon HQ. He lead them all to the entrance, waving to a couple guards before they were permitted entry to the building. The walls, appearing metallic, formed thing corridors with sliding doors on either side – all accessible only with a keycard of some sort. Security was so very tight, even the bathrooms had a requirement for even the lowest-class keycard. He lead them down a corridor, into one room, through another, and down another corridor before reaching a room filled with four other people.

Within the room stood a man dressed in all blue, another in a green military-like suit, one in a more casual suit, and the fourth – a WRO soldier, standing guard. When Rufus entered the room, all talking seemed to cease entirely. When the blond walked over to the man in blue, he calmly began to explain who the three were, their purpose, and the now-agreed alliance. The man in the green uniform sat down, having practically no say in the matters, whatsoever. Reeve, on the other hand, smiled as his conversation with the President ended. When the young President took a seat the head of the table, Reeve stood chuckling quietly before looking to the three men that had accompanied Rufus to the room. The table was brown, and long. As if the room were built solely for meetings.

” Come, you can all sit down. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance – I am Reeve Tuesti. “ He introduced, nodding his head, standing straight, and crossing his arms over his chest. ” It is my understanding that you three have formed an ‘alliance,’ so to speak, with the President. I am in secondary control of the WRO, any questions you have about them can be directed to me. I can give you as many soldiers are you require when you require them. This, “ He gestured to his left where a dirty blond man in a black and white suit, blue eyes, and a gentle expression stood. ” This is Kunsel. He’s an expert with most of Gaia’s landscape, people, and generally every area you could have questions on. An ex-SOLDIER from the previous army program with ShinRA. “ When Reeve finished, he sat down, looking to Rufus who rose to his feet once more.

” It is in my opinion that this ex-SOLDIER travel with at least one of you, to assure that nothing goes wrong – in the event you cannot reach me nor Reeve. “ He instructed, narrowing his eyes on the three men. ” Any questions you have for us, you may ask now. Other than that, I’ll be giving you all ways in which to contact Reeve or myself. “ With that, the room remained quiet, awaiting any questions that may have arisen in the anyone’s mind.

---

Sephiroth’s mind ran over the sentence again – he was well known on another planet? What a pleasant thought that was. His smirk only seemed to grow in darkness as he listened to the creature ‘compliment’ him. ” Very well, Kamui. Perhaps having you as a ‘tagalong’ won’t be so bad as I first imagined. “ He snickered, shaking his head of platinum hair. But where to go first?

” Have you any particular reason for being on a planet that is not your own? “ He inquired, quirking his brow, directing his eyes to the little creature. He turned on his heel, heading for the doorway that had lead him into the house and leaning on the doorframe while looking out into the dismantled city. Tsk, people were too lazy to even rebuild this awful town? How pathetic.

---

Weiss stared at the man. ”… The one who was killed in action? “ He inquired quietly, mainly to himself, before he shook his head. Where did that thought even come from? Perhaps, before his mind had been toyed with, the name was semi-important, or something big had happened. But he couldn’t clearly recall. After regaining his thought processes, Weiss nodded slightly. ” My name is Weiss. Weiss the Immaculate. “ He introduced, lowering his gaze only slightly.

As for what had happened … even he was unsure. ” I’ve just … arrived here, myself. “ He murmured, shrugging his shoulders up in the slightest. ” I’m trying to find my way elsewhere. “ He added, rolling one shoulder as he uncrossed his arms and looked at Angeal. ” If you’re wondering about the town … it’s been like this for a while. Not this bad, as I last remember … “ He continued to talk quietly to himself, mostly the last part, in order to not sound as if he were completely clueless as to everything.

Nero chewed his muzzle. Oops. Maybe he should have been a bit more concerned about the girl’s travelling … but he shrugged it off. The time was passed and everything was well. He looked around the semi-bare area, looking toward a more wooded area before directing his gaze behind him. A little barer than the other side. He let out a quiet sigh, grabbing one of the guns in his leg holster, just in case. ” I’m sorry. We won’t have to travel like that again. “ He mumbled, nodding his head slightly before taking a few steps away from the seated girl.

At her question, he nodded. Weiss was at least somewhere in the general area … maybe not so close that they could hear him, but definitely close in the area. Nero stood tall, wondering how keen this girl’s sense of power was. Maybe she was going off an instinct – or maybe she was actually going off of something useful. He was unsure of what he should believe, and merely decided to follow suit with her. If she was sensing something in one general direction, the same he was, then clearly they were both on the same path. At least they wouldn’t be arguing about which way to go.

He started off in the direction she had indicated, turning his head to look at her just once before carrying on. ” I’m not sure which town is this way … if there is one … but if you need to stop, tell me. “ Yes, now Nero was being considerate. She had offered to help, so he was offering to help her in return. He recalled Weiss didn’t often care for how others were fairing – his own sibling not included – but Nero was different. He didn’t care about people who didn’t care about him. And this girl’s interest showed him she cared, and if she cared, he should be nice to her …

That was how everything worked, at least, in Nero’s mind.

---

Reno only grumbled as his head was initially assaulted by the thing. He frowned irritably; not very fond of the affection his hair was getting from this puny rabbit. ” You little – “ He growled before Tseng’s questions were answered. Good old Tseng, stopping Reno from doing stupid things, without meaning to. When his face was attacked, Reno unintentionally started to lean back in his chair until he caught himself. Pushing his way back to the table he tried to pull the little thing off his face. What the hell was WRONG with her?!

” You know, you’re cute and all, but don’t do that. “ He growled, not exactly angry, but neither was he pleased about what had just happened to his hair and face.

” Dewwy. “ He said, drawing his gaze away from Reno’s recently-attacked-face. ” Is ‘Yume’ the catalyst? “ This concept of ‘Yume’ and ‘the catalyst’ seemed to confuse him slightly, but Tseng remained on topic. As much as he wished to “poke fun” at Reno ( meaning cracking some dry humored jokes ), he refrained. Right now – this moment in time, he needed to get information. And that was what he intended to do.

” Is it possible you would be able to find this catalyst – or help us find her? “ He questioned, unsure if that was even who they should have been looking for. Which then brought another question to his mind, causing him to speak before Dewwy would be able to answer his first. ” Actually – are there others like you here, Dewwy? “

---

Reeve couldn’t help but let out a quiet chuckle at Stanz’s question. He covered his mouth, though his expression still read amused. ” There’s a couple nice places around here. “ He responded, though Rufus seemed to shoot him a dangerous glare that was ignored. ” If you’re looking for something quick, but good, just a couple blocks away there is a nice little restaurant. “ Yielding his time ‘on the floor,’ Reeve sat back and smiled genuinely at the group. Durin, strangely, reminded him of Rufus with a different style.

Looking to the blond fellow, Rufus stood up straight, crossing his arms. ” We operate with basic fire arms, the best falling under the category of ‘machine guns. Swords, electric spears, and some other few weapons can be used with materia. If you don’t intend to use it, there is no need to explain further of it. Training of the soldiers includes basic Melee, advanced combat training, expertise in piloting and operating transportation vehicles, and excellent weaponry training. “ He nodded, looking between the three again, his gaze only resting on Stanz momentarily before focusing mainly on the other two. ” Transportation can include basic vehicles, but mostly basic helicopters and larger ones for carrying soldiers. Occasionally, ships are used, but the ports are generally for larger cruise ships as opposed to military focused. “ He concluded his part of the speech, looking to Kunsel with a slight nod. ” I trust you can explain the life forms on the planet. “

” Of course, sir. “ Kunsel smiled, nodding at the men. ” The ‘monsters,’ as you said, vary on the planet. With this continent, you’re more likely to come across larger monsters that can be taken out very easily. Normally large lizards or some sort of animal. On the Western Continent, there are stranger creatures – griffons, larger animals … things of that nature. North, you will mostly come across creatures of ‘ice’ and water. Hardly anything else, aside from large birds. “ He nodded once more, tapping his chin before directing his eyes to the ceiling. ” Depending on where you decide to go will definitely effect how many soldiers and which weapons to bring with you. “ Concluding his explanation, Kunsel took a seat next to Reeve, smiling as if everything he had just spoken of was normal … as if he gave the explanation on a daily basis.

… Okay, so Kunsel missed being in SOLDIER. Was there something wrong with that? Being a waiter just wasn’t the same.

” Our largest threat is the 'one winged nightmare,' “ he spoke up again, frowning as he stated the title. " Sephiroth. "

Yes, indeed, the man was presumed dead - but with all this strangeness happening ... what was the chance the man DIDN'T return? Practically nil.

” Will that be all? “ Rufus asked, interlocking his fingers on the table.

---

Sephiroth didn’t seem to remotely flinch from the creature jumping atop his shoulder. In fact, his gaze stayed focused ahead of him. Chaos, hm? Well then, perhaps the little demon needed to see, first-hand, what sort of chaos went on around this place. So many things and people to torment – what was happening now was barely chaos. It was a state of panic for the planet, Sephiroth’s return was just one of the many concerns. Yes, there would be so very much to do and so very much time to get it done.

His lips formed a smirk, finally – he could feel himself recuperating. His mind and body were back in sync with each other, and he felt as though he would take on an entire army by himself. ” Well then, Kamui, what say you to a bit of chaos of our own? “ He suggested, stepping out of the door way and extending his large black wing. ” Certainly, before I do anything too rash, some havoc of my own would be considerably entertaining. “ He mused. If Kamui didn’t want to go, then – oh well. Sephiroth had his own agenda – he didn’t abide by some little dragon’s desire for amusement.

---

Weiss actually had to think about an answer to Angeal’s first question. Yeah, he was in SOLDIER. For that short time before he was sent to DeepGround to serve out the remainder of his days a minion. He snorted quietly, nodding his head as an answer. That should’ve been sufficient enough, right? He left it at that. No need to bring back some unwanted memories that were worked so very hard to suppress.

… This guy must have been a good SOLDIER. There was no harm in having someone who had a decent sense of direction with him. Sure, Weiss knew his way around … but he had been locked underground for years. He wasn’t sure how much his sense of direction had diminished. After staying quiet for a moment, he decided to speak up before his unresponsiveness drove the other away. ” Sure – I don’t see why not. “ His mind was still a little fried, a little jumbled – after all, he hadn’t been thinking correctly since he had been stuffed underground. He had his mind to himself for a couple of days before it was taken over – again. So yeah, he was a little out of sorts. For now, anyway. ” Somewhere else. Maybe to the ocean – then I can at least find some way to a decent place. “ He suggested, shaking his head. And which way was the ocean? Christ – everything just seemed to get harder, the more he tried to figure out what he was doing.

What was he going to do? Did he even have a purpose on this forsaken planet any more?

----------------
Considerate? Maybe. If that’s what she considered being considerate. He just thought he was being nice … Nonetheless, he nodded at her response. Holding his gun with a semi-relaxed expression, he was still alert and wary of his surroundings. As Yume sprinted ahead of him, Nero walked at a moderate pace behind her, focusing his eyes about him every time even the slightest of rustlings sounded. He had been staring off in the direction of a large tree, where he thought he was hearing some rustles.

The moment Yume stepped on something, making a crunching sound, his eyes were directed to her in an instant. He chewed his muzzle, watching the hoard of flying insects lift off the ground and seem to charge them. He watched as Yume seemed a bit squeamish over them. He didn’t care … bugs were bugs. But if they were going to disrupt Yume’s ability to travel, he would take out as many as he could before they would carry on. ” Yume. Get behind me. “ He instructed, catching the glimpses of little electric shocks. Without warning, he drew his other gun and began a rapid fire upon all the creatures, attempting to take out as many as he could before they attacked.

As far as he could recall … he didn’t remember seeing these creatures before.

---

Reno rolled his eyes. ” Ain’t need’a be done again. “ He mumbled, leaning on his hand and lazily looking at the rabbit. He yawned, directing his blue eyes upward toward his boss to see his reaction. Actually, he seemed to be a little impressed with the new answers the rabbit was spewing. He scowled – well, well, wasn’t he just about as useless as an ice cube in hell.

Tseng glanced toward Reno, quirking a brow in silence before looking at Dewwy again. Now then, they were getting somewhere. He nodded as Dewwy made her quick explanations and then stood up from his seat, causing Reno to look at him in question. Tseng adjusted his tie and frowned a little bit. ” We should find either ‘Yume’ or one of the others like you, Dewwy. Reno, call the President – inform him of what we’ve found. We need to search. “

However, before Reno could even get out his cell phone, a text message had reached the both of them from the President’s aide. It explained everything they had just found out – save for the information about Kamui and Coniel. Well, that solved a couple things. The President wanted a search for this ‘catalyst.’ That must mean that the President had found someone who was like Dewwy – understood what was happening ( for the most part ). ” Maybe you will find Yume first, Dewwy. “ Tseng suggested, closing his phone and looking to Dewwy. Perhaps she would be willing to play this game.

---

Rufus nodded quietly as they all responded. Yes, he knew Sephiroth was back. And he wasn’t all that sure who the other two people he mentioned were. He assumed someone of the underground. Looking to Reeve, Rufus raised a brow in question. ” Melanor told me of a pure white fellow and … another involved with darkness. Ring any bells, Tuesti? “ He glowered as Reeve tapped his chin in thought.

Almost a moment later, Reeve smiled at Rufus, rubbing the back of his neck. ” Well, your father had an underground army of Soldiers in the works before he died. If I am correct, that would be Weiss ‘the Immaculate’ and Nero ‘the Sable.’ Two brothers born underground and enrolled within SOLDIER for a very brief amount of time; the last I recall, they were both killed. “ He nodded, his tone returning to a serious state. With an irritated glare, Rufus looked from Reeve to the other three.

” There you have your answer. Now then, “ Rufus looked over them all. ” And how do you intend to find this girl? “ He inquired, quirking his golden brow toward them all. ” Depending on how you would like to find her would vary how many soldiers you require. “ Reeve spoke up, smiling pleasantly to them all.

Laying out three thin, black cell phones with the ShinRA logo on the front, Rufus pushed the phones down the table, nodding his head slightly. ” Those are ShinRA issued cell phones. They have my, Reeve’s, Kunsel’s, and Tseng’s numbers in them. Of course, I wouldn’t expect you would wish to contact Tseng directly – therefore you can simply reach me to reach the Turks. “ Cell phones made contact so much easier. No one had to run around aimlessly trying to find someone somewhere they were unfamiliar with.

” And whenever I’m needed, I can be contacted. “ Kunsel put in his own two cents, nodding his head as his expression returned to a neutral, though serious, look.

” Well, then. How would you three like to begin the searching? “ Reeve piped up again, chuckling quietly after he finished speaking.

---

Chuckling, Sephiroth shook his head at Kamui’s remark before pushing himself and the little creature off the ground and flapping his large wing before taking off in the skies. ” Another form? And what would that be? “ He questioned, flapping his wing when required, and keeping his gaze directed below him. He knew where he wanted to go. That one little town, so easy to torment; people willing to obliterate distasteful memories from their minds – yes, to Kalm they would go.

However, before he decided to enter the town, Sephiroth decided to land himself a good few meters away from the general entrance to the town. ” Hn … Kalm. This should be very interesting. “ He chuckled, shaking his head of platinum hair, smirking to himself.

---

Weiss watched Angeal, placing a hand on his own hip while watching him. He seemed to be dozed off for a moment before coming back and answering him. Wrong way – well, that wasn’t a good start. ” … right. “ Weiss murmured, blinking over in the direction he pointed. This was going to be a nice long walk, wasn’t it? ” Decent … I’m not sure what I’d call decent. “ He frowned, shaking his head. That was all he was going to muster for an answer. ” When I come across it, I’ll let you know. “ He nodded slowly, beginning to walk in the direction Angeal had pointed.

” You’re coming – aren’t you? Any place you looking for, in particular? “ Weiss questioned, his voice dropping from the deep, but cocky tone back to a neutral, though still deep, voice. He couldn’t help it – his voice was never much higher than it was at the moment. And still being confused, perhaps there was a bit of lightness to his words. Nothing that would make him come off as a ‘weakling’ though. He may have been confused, but he was still ready to take on anything, or anyone, that might have come his way.

THIRTEEN

---------------------

Nero nodded slightly at her comment, shrugging his shoulders. ” I was able to practice whenever I was ‘let out.’ “ He muttered, quickly holstering one of his guns. So she didn’t like beetles, that was good to know. Of course, some people just had things they didn’t want to deal with. He didn’t have anything like that, himself. He had never really grown to fear anything that he could think of – besides the loss of his brother and living all alone. But those were completely different.

He found nothing suspicious about the girl, besides the fact she acted differently than the few females he had met. But as long as she didn’t act like Shelke, there was no problem. He blinked, gazing around him as he couldn’t even tell where he was. When he was within the ranks of SOLDIER, not locked away against some pillar, Nero had been here very few times. In fact, the most he recalled was being in the training room and seeing a holographic version of all the trees …

But the feel of power would lead him on. And he followed Yume, chewing his muzzle in anticipation of another attack of monsters. If anything did come at him, it wouldn’t be nearly as weak as the beetles. There were all sorts of monsters in the forests and on any land. It was unfortunate that he had brought them to a more closed part of land instead of an open area where monsters were visible. ” Yume. Is there anything else you are scared of? “ He chewed more on the muzzle, lifting his head as he admired some of the leaves before returning his eyes to scout for monsters headed their way.

---

Reno rose from his seat, standing to follow his superior when Dewwy spoke again. Hell, she was just becoming a fountain of information. Clearly, they were on some sort of track. ” The hell? So we should find some girl. Some girl we have no idea where to look ‘cept your intuition. “ He muttered, resting his hands behind his head, shrugging his shoulders once. ” Well, we’ve found people with less information. “ He smirked, looking to Tseng. Yeah - that was his version of optimism. And his acceptance of a challenge.

Tseng nodded as Reno spoke, holding out his hand for Dewwy to jump on ( or whatever she wished ) and subtly rose a brow. ” Will you do what you can in order to help us find Yume? “ He asked, blinking once before accepting her answer. ” We’ll be able to ride in the helicopter, if you would like. Depending on how far she is. “ He nodded, focusing on Dewwy. ” All we must do is find Yume, or someone else, from your planet. “ Tseng nodded once more, making a gesture for Reno to go ahead of him and prepare the helicopter.

---

Reeve spoke up first. ” Weiss and Nero, together, are rather powerful. Apart, Nero is less powerful, but Weiss still holds the powers of all his subordinates. I suppose, if they are being ordered by someone, they will be doing certain mischievous acts, however, unprovoked; the two should be rather calm. “ he informed, a smile across his features. It was as if the man was unable to hold any other emotion besides a general happiness. That was untrue, but he found no reason to try and terrify the newcomers. There was no reason.

As Melanor spoke, Rufus’ blue eyes remained fixed on him, almost as if he were glowering and attempting to find out anything the man may not have said. As tempted as he was to instruct them that any ‘secrets’ should not be hidden, he refrained from making himself come off as a hypocrite. Something about the blond made him feel as if he were hiding something. And that irked Rufus. He barely caught on to what he was saying when he began to state what he needed. ” We do not have many detailed maps, for the continent’s landscapes are continually changing. I can give you the most updated one we’ve been able to configure, though the Northern Continent is still unfinished. “ His eyes remained fixed on Melanor before he looked to the other two towards the end of his short speech. Directing his gaze to Kunsel, Rufus nodded slightly. ” For details, I would suggest you talk with him. He’s very educated on the landscapes. “

” Ah – right. I’d be willing to guide you around any continent or through any town you may need. “ A small smile crossed his own expression as he nodded his head of darker golden hair, squatting down quickly to pick up a small bag he had brought with him. Within it, he retrieved a square, white, graphed, folded paper. ” Here. This is the most recent of the maps. “ He nodded, carrying the paper down to the three, offering it to man closes to him before returning to his standing position to the right of Rufus and Reeve. ” If you need anything explained, you can ask me. Geography is my specialty. Fighting is right up next to it. “ He nodded, a playful smile accompanying his words.

Concluding Kunsel’s talking, Rufus rose once more, practically glaring at the three. ” In order to get this done effectively and as quickly as possible, I would suggest we split up. Though I am unsure of how you three would like to do so. I will be going along, though, I am not very positive I could identify this girl on my own. “ He suggested, watching the three. ” However we do this is up to you three. This is your … catalyst, you said, we are after. Therefore, ShinRA is not going to make the decision of how to do so without your acceptance. “

---

Sephiroth rose a brow at Kamui’s question, a slight shrug of his shoulders enforcing his answer. ” I didn’t name the towns, I cannot tell you why. “ He smirked, a quiet chuckle escaping his lips. Before he was able to take a few steps forward, Kamui leapt off his shoulder. Slightly curious as to what was going to happen, he watched with a silver brow piqued in question. He watched as the creature suddenly seemed to shape-shift into a taller being – an almost identical copy to a human being. Though … far more edgy.

What did this mean? Obviously, Kamui was challenging Sephiroth. A small smirk on his thin lips, Sephiroth crossed his arms over his chest. ” Of course not. “ He said, accepting the change. He was tempted to touch the new figure’s hair, merely to see if it was as normal as a human’s, but he refrained from doing such. Bad impressions, and such. He walked past Kamui, making a gesture with his hand for the other to follow. ” Come. Kalm won’t remain calm for very long. Plenty of wood, plenty of people. More than enough fear. “ The smirk on his lips seemed to get ever-more-menacing as he walked forward, toward the small city.

Holding a hand up towards the sky, he made a quick motion with his fingers. The once-mildly bright sky began to fill with dark clouds, swirling around each other over Kalm. A sudden coldness seemed to strike the air and any normal human would have noticed the sudden change in temperature. When he was satisfied with the ominous change, he lifted a hand and an orange flow began to form around his hand. As he stepped through the archway to Kalm, he hurled a rather hefty ball of fire toward a large watering hole in the center of the town. ” Let the games begin. “ He vocalized, smirking to himself as a few stray humans ran as far back from the firey-water well as possible, shouting a couple obscenities, causing a few other people to look out from their windows in their homes. Yes, Kalm was about to get a lot more vile.

---

This guy was … different. He was strangely nicer to Weiss than any other person the man could remember running in to. If only his memory hadn’t been skewered, perhaps he would have recalled the man more clearly and been a little less uneasy about the kind words to him, and gentle sounding voice. Hnph. Maybe everything the guy was putting on was a façade, but he could hold his own against some guy lying about himself. Then again … not many people could feign being so kind for the amount of time he’d spoken to him.

Though he remained virtually expressionless, Weiss kept his eye open, watching around for anything, or anyone, who was unwanted in the venture toward the water. ” Hn. “ He offered as a response to the ‘getting lost’ bit. As much as he didn’t want to admit it, Angeal was probably right. His sense of direction was definitely off. ” Nowhere? Alright. Then until we get somewhere, we’ll just head for the ocean. “ He murmured, running a hand through his own hair quickly before continuing to walk forward, tempted to test out the rest of his vitals and his speed.

When the question arose about his arrival, he looked to the ground and slowed in his steps. How did he get here? Was any of this even real? He shook his head, pressing the palm of his hand to his forehead. ” I really don’t know. “ He growled, mostly disappointed he didn’t remember anything. ” I can’t … remember. “ He shook his head, hissing a little.

With a sudden burst of his liveliness, Weiss lifted his head and cracked the bones in his neck before running ahead of Angeal, though sliding across the ground to stop as he came to a rather large tree. Cocking back his leg, Weiss aimed a heavy kick toward the tree, shaking his head as he felt the work of physics on his body. Yeah. He was alive. In his dreams, physics wouldn’t take effect – but this was real. This tree was real. Something had happened. Now he was alive. How in the hell did s**t like this happen? He shook his head, making a fist glaring at the tree – almost as if the tree was the reason he was lacking in memory. Letting out a heavy sigh, he turned from the tree; back in the direction he had ditched Angeal, almost feeling a bit bad for that. He waited for the other man to approach, letting his expression drop angry back to the semi-neutral expression. ” … Tch. “ He muttered to himself, rubbing his neck with the subtle sense of remorse enveloping his mind.

Listening to Yume, Nero didn’t really respond, for he seemed a bit occupied searching for something that didn’t seem to be there. His eyes continued to search, but he heard every word Yume spoke. Nodding at the end of her little spiel about her fears, Nero returned his attention ahead of himself. Spotting the creature about half a second earlier than Yume, his crimson eyes widened as his voice seemed to be lost at the moment. He made a quiet sound to himself as Yume ducked out of the way. He was pleased she didn’t get eaten, and he focused on the creature the moment he saw she was out of its way. Before it lunged at them, he drew his second gun and opened fire on it.

All the bullets did was make the creature stagger in its attack, taking a couple steps back. Nero quickly filled one of his guns with a little, yellow orb he pulled from one of his pockets. Thundara – a powerful materia that caused a great deal of damage to such creatures of this nature. It lacked wings, but a horn rested on its snout. Nero recognized the creature from training sessions he had before, and recalled defeating it mostly without bullets. However, his bullets were just as good as a sword. He pulled a couple triggers rapid fire, electrical shocks running through some of the bullets as a result of the materia. " Watch yourself, Yume. " Nero instructed, almost cautiously so to keep the girl alert of any attack.

The creature seemed determined to catch Yume, but Nero wasn’t going to allow such a thing to happen. If he could defeat the large monster with his limited ammunition, that would have been better – but if he could not, he would send the creature to another dimension through his power of darkness. As the monster made a hefty cry, it whipped its tail around, beyond Nero and toward the girl it had set its sights on. Shocked that the monster could still function properly, Nero shot at the tail, but that proved to be futile as the monster had managed to get at least close to the girl with it's tail. (Ihopethat'snotgodmoddingD smile

The blonde watched over the others, flipping his bangs as they seemed to finally catch on to what they were supposed to be doing. Reeve watched, from his sitting position, slight interested in how Melanor was going about finding the people he was searching for. Rufus quirked brows slightly at Durin’s talk of never having any help, and glanced at the man. ” The current circumstances are what lead me to believe you three could be of some use. “ His gaze casually drifted Stanz, though he remained silent no matter how irritating his ‘sleeping’ may have been. ” I find that otherwise, I would not have spoken to any of you. “ He made it clear that he was no generous man accepting the help of random strangers all the time – it was merely a one-time-based-on-circumstance kind of thing. Leaving his spot at the head of the table, Rufus circulated around so that he was near Melanor, Durin, and Stanz, glancing over to view the map as he pointed. Reeve also rose to his feet, walking around to the opposite side of Rufus, glancing at the map as his expression dropped to a neutral gaze. He watched the man point, nodding at each subtle hint he seemed to give.

Kalm. Cosmo Canyon. Goblin Island. Gongaga. Those areas were key areas. Midgar had the Turks – who apparently had Dewwy. Rufus nodded slightly. Hn. Perhaps the Turks were proving to be pretty useful this time around.

” An angel-like name? “ Reeve asked before Rufus could respond, running a few fingers over his own beard. ” I’m not certain. “ He muttered, Rufus shaking his head in response. ” Angeal? “ Kunsel suddenly spoke up, blinking expectantly at the group. ” He was a SOLDIER and an experiment – gone horribly wrong, resulting in his death. I’m not sure if that’s the person you’re talking about, but an angel-like name and a connection to a higher power … “ Kunsel trailed off, looking to the floor. He felt as if he had said too much, or spoken at a time Rufus would find inappropriate – not the greatest way to make an impression on your ex-boss’ son.

” Whomever he may be, I’m not all that certain they’re much of a threat. Particularly if he’s with someone else. My suggestion would be to finding him for last, if he’s not standing out much more than that. “ Rufus mused, crossing his arms over his chest. He dropped his blue eyes to the floor for a moment, catching the sight of something white on the floor. Curiously, he raised a brow, reaching down to the floor, snatching the feather, and quickly stuffing it away into his pocket. Yes. His suspicions were correct. This man was hiding something.

” If that will be all, perhaps we should get going then. The planet won’t be able to hold so many different powers at once for very long. “ Rufus said, flipping his hair, narrowing his blue eyes upon the blond male again. ” You and I. “ Rufus glowered directly at Melanor. ” We can head to Gongaga. The girl is near Cosmo Canyon. If we don’t find her on the way, she is most likely headed there, anyway. I’m afraid no one here is nearly powerful enough to take on Sephiroth. He’s taken out an entire army with the wave of his hand in the past. “ He muttered, flipping his bangs. ” You. Take Kunsel. “ He said, lessening his glare, but focusing on Durin. ” Whomever you feel would be better to find, then do so. Whether it be a human or creature. “ Looking to Reeve, he raised a brow.

” Anything this man needs to do in particular? “ Reeve questioned, pointing to Stanz with a grin on his face. ” If he’s not needed immediately, I can show him somewhere to eat. “ He chuckled quietly. In response, Rufus shrugged his shoulders, looking to Melanor, then Durin, for the answer.

---

Sephiroth watched as Kamui did what he needed to, smirking as some people seemed to get caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Slowly, Sephiroth drew his Masamune, grabbing a tight hold of the hilt in his left hand while allowing his hand to build up with the power of the fire materia once again. ” Well, well, Kamui. “ He smirked, hurling the new ball of fire at a building closer to his left side. ” My reason for ‘chaos’ isn’t merely for my entertainment. “ He chuckled, holding his blade appropriately before quickly slashing it in a downwards position in front of himself, diagonally, watching several streaks of blue, sharp air head directly for another building further down the way.

” I’ve come to realize my body will not merely be able to work properly after some time of being unused. My power is still here, but how it is used must be tested. “ He nodded, unsure of how far his own powers would take him. Perhaps they were better than they were his first time around. Perhaps they were less – but clearly not by too much, if at all.

Drawing back his blade, Sephiroth focused his eyes on one shuddering civilian. His lips forming a small smirk, he charged at him, attempting to perform a perfect ‘octaslash.’ With his attack completed, he smirked, proud that he was still able to perform a perfect one. As a final touch, Sephiroth drove his sword through the man’s stomach, listening as he grunted, lifting him in the air and hurling him off to the side into a near-by building that was still left unharmed.

Dropping his emerald gaze to his hand, Sephiroth smirked at the still-groaning body. Yes, everything seemed to be in working order. He contracted the muscles in his fingers a few times, turning his head over his shoulder to observe Kamui. He seemed to be enjoying himself, as far as Sephiroth could tell. Then again … who besides the ‘heroes’ didn’t enjoy chaos? Well, there were a few exceptions, but Kamui didn’t strike him as one of the ones to count.

---

Tseng rose a brow subtly at Dewwy’s sudden change of heart. Kamui … ? Who was Kamui? Clearly, he was someone who had a power over her. Well, with the very little direction she had given them, that could take days to search the entire area. Perhaps their next best bet was ‘Coniel.’ With a slight frown, he shook his head and gently reached over his shoulder to pat her head. ” Okay, Dewwy. “ He said, retracting his other hand back to his pocket, continuing to make his way toward the helicopter that Reno had been preparing for flight.

Well, who was to be found first? The “FBI” – whatever that was – or an informative creature? An informative creature sounded more promising … the “FBI” must have been some form of Fighting Bureaucratic Intelligence, or something along those lines. Something he didn’t wish to get himself mixed up in. So yes, another creature like Dewwy sounded more plausible and a bit more of a better idea than something against what he worked for. ” Can you tell us where we can find Coniel, Dewwy? “ He asked, placing a headset over one of his ears so he could hear Reno if he needed to speak.

The helicopter roared loudly as Reno began switching the gears, offering a ‘thumbs up’ to Tseng. When given the correct information, Tseng would direct Reno as to where to go. However, for now, they hovered about above the new ShinRA building, awaiting confirmation from Dewwy as to where to head. Before anything drastic could happen, Tseng slid both sides of the helicopters main-body doors shut, leaving him and Dewwy behind Reno in the pilot’s seat. Yes, Tseng knew how to operate a helicopter, but it wasn’t exactly his favorite thing to do.

” So, where to? “ Reno called over the roar of the engine, turning his head to the side slightly to send a glance to Tseng and Dewwy, a smirk on his lips – still unaware of whether or not they were going to find the girl, or someone else.

---

Actually, assaulting the tree made him feel a little better. At least he could rest at ease that this was no dream. Everything was real – very real. As he moved to take a step forward, he felt a slight bump on his head. Rubbing where he’d been hit, he looked upwards toward the top of the tree. Hnph. Stupid tree.

Grabbing a hold of his right shoulder, Weiss wound his arm around in a circle, stretching the muscles and closing his eyes as he made a quiet grunt. ” Yeah, to be honest. Makes me feel a lot better. “ He shook his head, stretching both his arms behind his back and cracking his neck bones a little bit. Alright, now he was stretched out. Now he was beginning to feel the liveliness jump back through his veins. ” Come on. “ He nodded a bit, shaking his head to clear his mind of his confusion. Thinking was for later. Action was for now. Action would get him places at this point in time. Doing things was going to get him where he wanted to be. Thinking was for when he got there and had time to think, and things to think of.

” We’re still headed the right way, right? “ He asked, quickly regaining a walking pace as if nothing had happened. Okay, so he seemed a bit out of whack. But who wouldn’t? For seven years he had his mind kept hostage, and just a few years back it was completely destroyed and taken over. Now it was his and his alone – there was no mad scientist in his brain, there was no Restrictor controlling his every move. No one to turn against him and fight back – the horrid memories he held, and the only ones he held, were all that pushed him forward. He didn’t have to deal with any of it. None of it. Not even a Restrictor. He looked to Angeal out of the corner of his eye, a slight frown forming on his face. Maybe he should at least give the guy a chance. He seemed just about as lost as Weiss was – except with a better sense of direction.

Nero took a step back from the shocking power that seemed to emanate from Yume’s body. His crimson eyes blinked as he watched the power work. Very, very strange … how had she done that? Did she have materia on her person? No, she couldn’t … but maybe he missed something. He kept his distance as the monster fell – whether it was dead or unconscious, he was unaware. However, he decided against taking any risks and sent two bullets through the creature’s eye sockets. Upon his finish, he turned his head to look at Yume, listening to what she had said about not being able to control the powers. Well, he definitely understood that.

” I see. At least you don’t need restraints. “ He mumbled, mostly to himself before turning his back to her for a moment and looking ahead of himself. He almost felt as if the presence of his brother was getting further away every moment they encountered something else. But he couldn’t tell where it was going. ” Yume. “ Nero turned back around to face the girl, eying her before nodding a little bit. ” If you do not want to fight, you do not have to. But you must be careful. “ As if the childish mindset was swept away in one great gust of wind, Nero watched her. Considering how they should go about continuing on if they were to prevent the girl from harm.

” Try not to go too far ahead, okay? “ He suggested, tilting his head at her, the childish disposition on his face again, his eyes looking a little less than worried, but a bit concerned. Turning to face the direction they had been headed before, Nero continued on the march. He made sure Yume was capable enough to walk on her own before keeping an eye on her as their ‘journey’ progressed.

Rufus listened to what they all had to say. He nodded slightly at Durin’s comments, sending a glower over to Reeve – he still seemed far too happy for a situation like this. Then again, that was normally the man’s disposition. With a slight smirk, his attention was back on Melanor, making a gesture with his hand. ” The sea would be the fastest route. We would make dock somewhere before Gongaga, from there, a short walk to the deserted town, and after, we’ll search out the girl directly. “ After his explanation, Rufus quickly made a wave of his hand ( directed at the General who had been sitting silently ) before leaving the HQ by his own lead, leaving the other’s behind. The wave of his hand had gotten the General to make sure a speed-boat of sorts was available to the two the moment they were outside.

With his influence, it would have been surprising if the boat wasn’t readily accommodated. Taking the quickest route, through an alley way, and down another street before he was there with a WRO soldier standing by to do the ‘driving.’ ” Melanor, I have something I wish to ask you about. “ Rufus stated blatantly, his back to the other blonde. Reaching into his pocket, Rufus drew the white feather out slowly, holding it in the air and turning his head to make a side-glance at the ‘man.’ ” I expect you can explain why this was at your feet, hm? “ He mused, stepping onto the boat, leaning against the far side-rail, waiting for the WRO soldider and Melanor to follow.

Kunsel, on the other hand, grinned excitedly as he was given a task to do. Goblin Island! Awesome! The darker-blonde man made his way over to the one – Durin – he was supposed to be working with. ” I’d say we should probably go by helicopter. That’s a lot of sea to cover – the chopper would be quickest and easiest! “ He nodded, placing his hands on his hips. In his work attire, Kunsel didn’t look like much – but he didn’t have much of a choice, being called upon at the very last minute. ” The President said there should be a chopper on the helipad already, if you’re all set to go. “ He nodded, his grin still in place – as if he were eager to finally get back into the work of a SOLDIER! It had been … far more than 5 years since he’d been instructed to do something like this. Just thinking about it brought back so many memories to him.

Leading the way out the same entrance as Rufus, Kunsel had to take a different path from the door. Instead of twists and turns, Kunsel lead Durin toward a pad of multiple helicopters, one of them with an engine roaring and ready to go, a WRO operative inside, all ready to take off for their destination. " I know you haven't been on Gaia before - unless you have and I mistook that information - but this place is really beautiful from the sky. I think anyone could enjoy it -- ah, sorry. " He apologized, rubbing his neck with a smile. " I tend to talk a lot after a while. I'll try to keep a cap on that .. " He murmured, standing at the Helicopter's sliding door, waiting for Durin to get in before him.

Reeve chuckled at Stanz’s response. ” Please, call me Reeve. “ He smiled, clapping a hand on the other’s shoulder. ” Where we’ll be going is only a short walk from here. If you have nothing else to do, I’m willing to take you over as soon as you would like. “ He smiled, straying from the meeting room and across a separate hallway, so to leave the headquarters from a different side than the others. After all, he wasn’t headed for the docks or helipad, he was headed for the city, the complete opposite entrance of the Junon base.

Reaching the outside, Reeve waited for Stanz, stretching his arms up and inhaling the air around him. Being a man of mechanics, Reeve found himself already thinking of something he could try to talk about that would interest Stanze. Well – why not just try and learn from error? Stanz seemed like he could be a pretty reasonable fellow to chat with, particularly over food. So he watched him for a moment, stroking his own beard in momentary thought. ” You wouldn’t happen to be a man interested in robotics, would you? “ Reeve questioned, decided to be outright with his questions. To be honest, it wasn’t the other planet that interested him – it was the potential technology this place held … if he could merely know what it was they did … !

” Dying isn’t quite a hobby of mine. Just many unfortunate miscalculations. This time shall be very different. “ He smirked, admiring his own hand as he made a fist. Barely catching onto his second question, Sephiroth snickered, raising a hand to the sky once more before forcefully bringing it downwards and pointing to a couple of homes in the process.

Though it seemed delayed, almost as if nothing were going to happen, large ice-like daggers came dropping from the sky at great speeds. Yes, everything was in working order. His body just needed to stretch and wake up more. ” I assure you, I feel far more than energized. “ He snickered, shaking his head of platinum hair before focusing his emerald eyes on the man seeming to be choked by Kamui’s doing. With a slightly piqued brow at the creature’s comment, Sephiroth chuckled. ” The vermin of this planet deserve nothing but the worst. “ He mused, stalking past Kamui to kick in a door of a home that seemed to only have been narrowly hit by some attack or another.

His lips formed a smirk as he took note of the people inside it. “Charging” up the firaga materia within his body, Sepiroth took a couple steps out of the house before shooting the large ball of fire into the home, aimed mostly at the stove in order to create a larger explosion. By successfully doing such, Sephiroth spread his wing, jumping far back from the fire, and then took a few steps back from the house to watch his work in action as planks of wood from the roof flew off into the sky, a few landing on the ground around him and barely missing him. With a shake of his head, again, Sephiroth turned from the ruined building, focusing himself around in order to make sure that every building was destroyed and every villager left alive suffered, or was in the very least maimed.

Reno laughed a bit at Dewwy’s excitement while Tseng moved toward the secondary pilot seat. Nodding to Reno, and he nodding in return, the helicopter headed in the direction Dewwy has brought to their attention. ” Coniel, huh? Thought we were looking for a girl catalyst thing. “ Tseng only shook his head in response, silencing Reno before he could strike up any unwanted conversation.

Focused with piloting, Reno remained alert while Tseng kept an eye out from his seat to anywhere they should be landing. ” Dewwy, you’ll have to be a little more calm if we intend to find him. “ Tseng instructed, nodding slightly at her. Reno snickered a little bit – sure, the thing was cute, but it was a little spastic. Which, was why he was glad that Tseng got her as a ‘pet’ and Reno was just the right-hand-man.

When Angeal seemed to sense a bit of a power flare, Weiss happened to catch the same signature. He turned his head toward it, but the moment it was gone, he lost interest. While Angeal seemed to want to ponder the happening, Weiss couldn’t care anymore. It was probably some little thing that meant nothing. The planet kept screwing up anyhow, right? So, why not just flash some power here and there? Sounded like the right thing for an insane planet to do. ” Let’s go, big guy. “ Weiss muttered, returning to his walking pace, slowing for a minute so not to be too far ahead of Angeal.

He hadn’t even caught the almost-question that was apparently on Angeal’s face, but he didn’t really pay much attention either. Remembering what he’d gone through, to the best of his abilities, he continued to try and put things together, piece by piece. What had happened, who had done it, how long ago – things of such a nature. In fact, he was so enveloped in his thoughts, he had completely forgot about Nero until a certain memory of not-too-long ago seemed to rear its ugly head. Where was Nero? Had he been brought back too? Dammit – all this ‘trying to figure out what happened’ s**t just kept bringing up more questions!

Nero nodded at Yume’s little comment, shrugging it off. He’d have rather been safe then deal with a nearly-dead creature. When the question came to asking about sealing a God … Nero wasn’t sure what to say. Was Restrictor a God? Had Restrictor been considered a God? But he died – didn’t he? Nero blinked, staring ahead of himself still unsure of how he should answer. So, he stayed quiet, chewing his muzzle quietly. He was about to turn around when the girl bounded around to his front – embracing him quickly. As he was hugged, Nero’s eyes widened a little bit and he dropped his eyes down to her. Why was she – what was she doing? A hug? No one had hugged him before … he wasn’t really sure what he was supposed to do … so he simply stared at her and hesitantly nodded.

” I … it’s okay. I can fight enough. I fought all kinds of monsters. “ He stuttered, averting his eyes from the girl before resuming in walking. ” You’re welcome … I think. “ He mumbled the last part to himself, mostly. As his walking resumed, his mind calmed down at the thought of being hugged, and he resumed a stable mental condition once more. His crimson eyes began to scan the area again, searching every little crevice for some monster that may come after them. Stronger monsters weren’t his concern … they could be taken out with a normal materia … these creatures were nothing compared to Firaga and Thundara materias. They were powerful. They were useful.

So he was able to fill himself with enough confidence that he could walk ahead of her without being completely on edge. He believed he could defend both of them adequately and that his power was short of nothing in this terrain. It was a particularly easy terrain to get use to, so his powers would adjust nicely. He frowned, inwardly at least, and shook his shaggy head of black hair. Without much hesitation, Nero’s pace slowly began to pick up as he felt a stronger pull of pure power – something he felt would lead them to Weiss. As far as he knew, they were headed in the right direction. Power he could barely recognize … if it wasn’t Weiss, it was someone he knew. Finally, though, Nero decided to speak up against the question of sealing a God. ” My brother killed one … “ He muttered, turning his head to try to look at Yume. ” A God … I mean. “

---------------------------------

Rufus quirked a brow. This explanation was hardly satisfactory. His suspicions were rising as he waved a hand for the “boat” to begin the journey across a continent and south of the port at Costa del Sol. As nice a place as Costa del Sol was, it wasn’t quite close enough to Gongaga for a walk. Shaking his head of golden yellow hair, Rufus grabbed hold of a rail and raised his voice a bit so Melanor would hear him.

” I’m unsure if you’re aware, but we here, namely at ShinRA, have had past issue with feathers. “ His eyes narrowed, the feather remaining tightly grasped in his hand. ” Your round friend doesn’t concern me. Hollander was ‘round.’ Heidegger was … ‘round.’ I suppose it’s a body type for useless employees in ShinRA. What concerns me is the feather. Where are they? I don’t suppose you have one wing, hm? The result of some mad science experiment in secret? “ Rufus rattled off, glaring sharper daggers than before toward Melanor. Yes, this was a rather sensitive subject. He wouldn’t be taken as a fool with someone he was expecting to help him in his rescuing of his planet. Practically sneering, Rufus flipped his hair, glancing toward the water around them, letting the white feather go, watching as the white feather turned into nothingness at the speed they seemed to be travelling and it dropped into the dark blue water.

” I will not be made a fool because of an outsider. “ Rufus closed his eyes, gritting his teeth a little before pinching the bridge of his nose. ” I’m afraid your secrets are the least of my worries. “ He continued, shaking his head and directing his gaze behind them again, his glare lessening. ” I expect all information will come in due time. “ He snorted, rolling his eyes before glancing back to Melanor. Hn. Seemed the thing had never travelled by sea, before. Perhaps his stomach would turn and he would be subjected to seasickness.

---smallerline---

When Durin said he could talk as much as he wanted, Kunsel let a grin slip on to his face. He pulled his door of the helicopter shut, offering a headset to Durin and sliding his own over his ears. ” To be honest, bussing tables isn’t as great as working in SOLDIER. You’d figure with a job history tied to ShinRA, I could get a decent job. But, as it turns out, no one wants someone who was involved with the late president. “ He shrugged, laughing lightly before unbuttoning the collar of his rather fancy shirt and sliding his black jacked off. ” I guess you could say I’m getting bored with an easy life. I usually get along with people pretty easily, but most people who go out for dinner aren’t interested in friends … “ He sighed lightly, grinning a moment later. ” Ah, well, what can you do? Gil is gil. “

Pushing himself off the little ‘seat,’ Kunsel leaned forward over the pilot’s shoulder, grinning happily. ” It’s been a while since I’ve been up here. “ He looked through the main window, shaking his head and returning promptly to his seat. ” We’re headed to Goblin Island. Let me give you a quick rundown. “ He nodded, snickering quietly. ” It’s a little island, bigger than other islands, though. And the monsters there are pretty basic – small dragons and lizards, few species of ‘goblins,’ if you will. I remember one mission, back in SOLDIER, I went with a couple of my co-workers. It feels like so long ago … but these little goblins aren’t all that hard to get rid of. If you don’t patronize them, they don’t attack much. I mean, they’re like people, just a little more angry than more. But – man! One of my friends – er … co-workers decided to annoy one and it came at us like mad! After a bit, we found one quick shot to the head take them out. Unfortunately, killing one in a shrouded area draws out more … and the more there are, the harder they are to kill. “ Rubbing his neck, Kunsel cut his story short, inhaling before sighing with a grin on his face.

” I miss being SOLDIER, you know. Not just for the action, but for my friends and all the fun. Man, I knew this one guy – Zack Fair. He was a great guy. He went with me to this place once. He tried to make friends with a Goblin – can you imagine that? He was nice to it, offered it a brownie. Funniest thing – the goblin took it and threw it back at him! Of course, the only way to stop a goblin from killing you is to kill it ... and the little thing was furious. I felt bad for Zack, you know, he tried to be nice to it and had to kill it in the end. They’re weird creatures, not so bad if you leave them alone. If they didn’t rage until you died, they wouldn’t be so bad. At least they have pretty big families … they won’t die out very easily. “ He laughed, shaking his head and flushing slightly as he felt the embarrassment of speaking too much. He felt like he wasn’t even giving Durin a chance to respond. With a bit of hesitance, for he was trying to stop himself, Kunsel grinned, grabbing his bag and drawing out two small pistols. He popped out the clips and made sure each had enough ammo to sustain them. The bag held a bit of ammunition, but too much would weigh him down. They wanted a quick find right? Well, judging by how fast the helicopter was going, maybe another story or two and they’d arrive at the island.

Smiling, Reeve shrugged his shoulders. ” Ah, that’s a pity. Mechanics are very interesting. I wonder where Cait is. “ He mumbled, seeming to go off topic before pressing a couple buttons on his cell phone. Directing his rather happy grin back to Stanz, he made a small motion with his hand, leading the way down a small alleyway, taking a turn into the open avenue. ” If you stick with me, you can eat as much as you want, for free. “ Reeve chuckled a little bit, shaking his head, approaching a rather small diner. Before entering the place, Reeve watched down the street, staring off in the distance, nothing seemed to come instantly.

However, a moment passed and his smile remained plain on his face as rather … large, light pink ball with arms and a cat on it’s head came rushing down the near-empty street. He chuckled, watching as the large creature got dangerously close to the two of them. It came to a screeching halt just before hitting Reeve. Instantly, the black and white cat jumped off the Moogle’s head, latching on to Reeve’s shoulder, crying out with a howl of joy. ” Reevy! Ya’ cooky buzzard! Where ya’ been? “ The cat chuckled, ruffling up Reeve’s hair.

” You know, work. I’d like you to meet a friend of mine – of course, once you dismiss my favorite Moogle. “ He chuckled, patting the cat’s head, pulling him off his shoulder, holding the cat in his hands. ” His name is Stanz. “ Reeve smiled after Cait had muttered something and the moogle hopped off with a sense of joy.

” Stanz, eh? “ The cat murmured, tilting his head in the direction of the rather large man. ” Nice t’meet’cha. M’names Cait. Cait Sith. Little pet’a Reeve’s. “ He nodded, hopping out of Reeve’s grasp and pushing open the door. ” Well, ya’ two meat-bags gonna eat or j’ist stand ‘round n’ chat all ya’ day away? “ He laughed, entering the diner, ignoring the looks, and hopping into a booth for four people, at most. With Reeve close behind, and taking a seat next to him in the booth, Cait leaned across the table to make sure they were noticed.

Smiling, Reeve pushed Cait playfully back into his seat, glancing over at a waiter. ” I’d like you to get this man whatever he would like – and a cup of coffee for me, for now. “ He nodded, returning his attention to Stanz. ” I know this mustn’t be much of a time for ‘showing off,’ but I cannot help myself when given the opportunity. ” Cait Sith is my most prize creation. Entirely functional, a mind entirely his own. A robot that can function without the help of man. Have you got anything like that on your planet? “ He inquired, not in a down-talking tone, mostly curious.

” Yea – do ya’? “ Cait threw in, swishing his tail behind him, leaning across the table while still standing, for his height wasn’t all that tall, he was as big as a normal cat – though his head may have been a bit bigger per the norm. Not only did Reeve enjoy showing off his creation, Cait Sith enjoyed flaunting himself off to everyone he could.

With a smirk, Sephiroth stepped back from Kamui’s own display of fire consuming everything in sight. He stepped back from the fire consuming the things in his sight, softly snickering at the power. How interesting. It was as if darkness and fire had joined in one, taking everything in sight, leaving practically … nothing. He turned his attention to Kamui, stepping toward him as he seemed to be proud of his display. ” It isn’t the demonstration that decides the power, it’s the results that matter. “ Sephiroth chuckled, following after him as his attention seemed to directed elsewhere.

Quirking a brow at the creature’s discovery, he squatted down to examine the child. Bored almost instantly, Sephiroth stood up and glanced about him. ” Do what you wish with the child. “ A child was nothing to worry over. The people in this town were never anything to worry over. None of them could fight, they all relied on the army, or whomever was doing protections these days. All that mattered to Sephiroth was that these antics were enough to alert ShinRA that he was not fooling around and he was returned. For all the vengeance he had failed to attain before – he would get it.

Deciding to respond to Kamui’s other questions, he turned his back to the man, admiring the scene they had made of the town that once was lively, though quiet. ” A hobby is something you enjoy doing. I do not make a habit of dying and returning. I only return when I am in JENOVA’s favor. Seems she has a bit of a liking for my power. “ He chuckled, shaking his head. ” This time, I’m destroying every possible rebellion. Everyone in AVALANCHE. As much of ShinRA as I find necessary. “ He turned around to face him again. ” Anyone who dares to stand in my way – no mercy. “ He snickered softly, placing a hand on his hip and quirking a brow, once more. ” As for the people on this planet … I doubt you would understand my reasoning, as you are not of this planet. “ He concluded, shrugging slightly before waiting for Kamui to do something, anything, with the child he had discovered. If it were up to him, Sephiroth would have either left the child there or killed it, himself. However, in all honesty, he didn’t care what Kamui decided to do.

Raising a brow at Dewwy’s response, Reno glanced skeptically at Tseng, who merely shook his head. Shrugging in response, Reno returned to his directing of the helicopter, snickering quietly at Dewwy’s frantic jumps. Well, at least they were going somewhere. As they continued in the directions Dewwy gave them, Tseng watched, focusing on a slightly distant island that was generally North of the Eastern continent. As they neared the island, Tseng had his own “gut feeling” before instructing Reno to land the helicopter on the farthest side of the island, the upper North side. He frowned slightly, coming to the realization they had come to Goblin Island – slightly south of Round Island.

” Eh – chief, you sure anything ‘sides damn Goblin’s have been able to survive on the thing? “ He questioned, shutting the helicopter down switch by switch, knob by knob. ” Hey – chief! “ Reno called as Tseng hopped out of the helicopter onto the rough dirt-path immediately on the left side, as the right side of the helicopter lead them to the sand and ocean. Turning his head of raven hair to glance at Reno. ” What is it? “ Climbing out of the chopper, Reno jumped down on the dirt next to Tseng, stretching his arms over his head.

” Someone else is headed here. Caught there signal as I was shuttin’ ‘er down. Think it’s another ShinRA chopper. “ He muttered, directing his eyes to the sky, though seeing no one – yet. Well, they were on the furthest side of the island … the chances of this chopper landing near them – or on the island at all – was very little. Tseng nodded slightly, shrugging off the idea another chopper was headed toward them. If anything … they would assist them, wouldn’t they?

” Dewwy – where is Coniel? “ Tseng asked, directing his gaze beyond Reno and to the little puff-ball, again, offering out his hand again, should she wish to take post on his shoulder. He had no objections – he was actually getting used to her.

---------------------------------

Shrugging at Angeal’s request, Weiss turned around once again, following after Angeal once more. ” I guess not. Nothing important near the water any way. “ He muttered, mostly because he didn’t want to be left alone on his venture. He wasn’t afraid of being alone, he just didn’t like to be when he was in need of a little assistance. Even if it was just for direction – at least, that’s what he kept telling himself. Deep inside, he knew he needed some serious help with reasoning and figuring out what he was supposed to do – but he didn’t want to believe any of that. Not right now.

” The hell do you think that was? “ He asked, hoping over to Angeal’s side to meet his stride, even if the taller man’s was a bit longer than his own. ” Something big? “ Maybe it was a monster. Finally – some action, right? Maybe, maybe not. But as they began to walk toward the power, he felt a familiar little power. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but it wasn’t one of the Tsviets he had taken power from. He would have recognized them immediately. It was bigger than all of them, but he couldn’t decipher what it was, it was in so little use. Maybe it was a Restrictor. One of the ones he had yet to meet. Tch. If that was it …

He didn’t even want to think about it. It didn’t even cross his mind the little tug may have been his own sibling’s power. It just simply stuck him that he and Nero would be returned together.

-----------------

SEVENTEEN

-----------------

Shrugging his shoulders, he tried to come up with an explanation. ” He was cruel. I think he was a God .. god? When we find my brother, you should ask him. “ He nodded, more than convinced they would find Weiss. The only tug he could feel was his brother’s, no one else’s. He hadn’t been familiarized with feeling the presence of powerful people unless they were his brother – he’d been underground and under heavy restraints to the point he didn’t even know what he was sensing. If he could feel another power, he didn’t mentally register it. All he knew was that Weiss was on his way and, according to the girl, with someone else. If it had been a Tsviet, he might have been a bit more apt to decipher who it was – but he had no knowledge of who could have possibly been with him. Weiss was more of a… lone-traveler.

Nero chewed his muzzle in thought. Who could be with him? He didn’t doubt Yume’s ability to read far-away aura’s, but maybe she was picking someone who was following Weiss … someone who was trying to kill him again. No, that was bad. Weiss wouldn’t let that happen. While he stared in the direction they walked, he slowly began to furrow his brows. Weiss needed to be okay. He could take care of himself. If anyone, Weiss should be worried about Nero. They both knew Nero wasn’t the best person to leave alone. ” Do you know who he is with? “ Nero finally asked, directing a curious look toward Yume, slowing in his steps in order to allow her to be closer than she was before.

---------------------------------------------------

Rufus watched Melanor’s actions, quirking a brow slightly in amusement. Someone was getting sick on the boat – well, at least he could keep Melanor’s attention for some time. Prevent him from jumping subjects. He listened, observing the glare he got, preparing a retort of his own for the speech he received. ” You must understand, then, my suspicions as to why you’re opting to hide them from me. I’d prefer to know, or better yet, see your wings so I am not left in the dark and you are a bit higher up on my list of trustworthy people. “ He mused, quirking a brow, listening intently once again.

Well, that a bit more information than required, but he accepted it. For now. He didn’t really require much else in terms of his wings, and that was good enough, for now. Their main interest was to find the girl, get rid of the … catalyst, or whatever, and return the dead back to their rightful place in the LifeStream. So he glazed over the wings shortly before nodding slightly, grabbing a firm hold of the railing behind him in order to keep his standing position. He frowned, shaking his head slightly. ” Perfect being’s can vary. A perfect monster, a perfect angel, a perfect fighter, a perfect defender; but, I digress. What matters is you cannot merely hide such an important factor from me, of all the people. As you are aware, this planet has had some misfortune with science and creations with wings. “ Returning his attention to Melanor, he observed the rather semi-peaceful expression on his face. ” You cannot hide such vital details. I could care less if you’re considered a monster, angel, or even warrior on your planet – what I need to know is if you’re helping me and ShinRA or just yourselves. From what I can tell, now, you are merely here to assist ShinRA in returning the planet back to normal. Shall we leave it at that? “ He ended with a question, shaking directing his gaze to the land coming into sight ahead of them. That meant they were closer to Costa del Sol, but not exactly where they needed to be.

” Southward. “ Rufus called to the soldier controlling the boat. With a nod, the boat slowly began to change direction as the man took careful steps to ensure the boat would stay afloat and no one would be falling off it.

--------------------SHAAZZUUUU-------------------------------

Kunsel blinked, grinning at the opportunity to talk about weapons. Adjusting the clips in each one and clicking the safety back in place, he stuffed the two away safely, nodding as he did so. ” As a SOLDIER, I was trained to handle any kind of fire arms from machine guns, to snipers, to pistols. Unfortunately, I am most skilled with a bit more larger scale weapons than these, but these are a close second. Civilians who have a military background are only allowed to carry pistols – you know, for the safety of the people around and everything. “ He smiled, trying to making his stories a bit shorter. He just couldn’t help himself! Durin wasn’t cutting him off mid-sentence, patting his shoulder and then distracting himself with something else entirely. The man was being relatively sociable – even if Kunsel did most of the talking. He knew so much – but he couldn’t seem to get it out without adding a bit of a story to it. Sometimes, the information came out quick and easy, like in a serious situation. If they were being attacked? Yeah, he could quickly spit out where to aim and how hard to hit it – or something. But general information always had a story.

No Goblins, huh? Ah, well. Maybe those “gnomes” would be a bit helpful in understanding the weird, short creatures. ” I guess the plus-side is that Goblin Island is the only place that has the damn things. They’re annoying, no doubt, but easy enough to get rid of. Hopefully, we don’t have to spend too much time there. “ He laughed, nodding to Durin before getting up toward the pilot, tapping his shoulder to make sure he was paying attention. ” We should land toward the South side. Less sand, more rock, easier to travel on. From there, we can go and find this little thing. “ With an assured nod from the pilot, Kunsel sat back down behind him, almost wiggling in excitement at the thought of helping ShinRA and getting back to work.

-----------------I'MSORRYI'MTRYINGTOMAKETHESEALITTLEBITSHORTERD:------------------------

” A computer tha’ knows everythin’ ‘bout everyone, eh? Sounds like a good piece’a tech right there. “ Cait snickered, elbowing Reeve, who merely shook his head with a smile. ” Y’need to make one’a those, Reevy. “

Reeve merely shook his head, smiling as Stanz went on about the lack of technology, but more of two paths. And the topic of science creating a being; something Reeve was not experienced in and something he preferred to leave alone. ” Luckily, I don’t work with science. I stick with mechanics. “ He chuckled, ordering himself a cup of coffee, and – what Cait had subtly instigated he wanted – a piece of chocolate cake. Yes, Cait Sith ate things. It didn’t mess up his body, at all. Well, drinking things did – that was still a little kink Reeve was trying to work out. ” Ah, that sounds like your planet is rather lucky. Seems all technology does is incite violence among people as they want nothing but the best. When something malfunction’s once, a riot goes up. And another person tries to outdo the creator of the original product, resulting in a – to put it simply – arms race of technology. “ He chuckled, shrugging slightly.

Cait, though, made fists and put them both againt his cat-like hips. I am the greatest thing t’ever come out’a ShinRA, I c’n tell ya’ that! “ He bragged, pointing at Stanz. ” Ya’ ever need anythin’ t’be fixed, ya’ just gotta talk t’old Reeve o’er ‘ere, and it’ll be all bett’r. “ He continued, getting comfortable in his seat once more, grabbing a hold of the table like a little kid waiting for his cake. ” What’d ya’ say the fat guy’s name was? “ Cait Sith tried to ask Reeve inconspicuously.

Frowning a little bit, Reeve tugged one of Cait’s ears. ” That isn’t polite. His name is Stanz, and you will address him as such. “ He instructed, shaking his head and looking back to Stanz. ” My apologies, he’s a bit like a child. “ He smiled once more, his coffee and Cait’s cake arriving shortly after. ” Thank you, very much. “ He smiled, handing the cake off to Cait, who’s ears seemed to fold back with a sense of an apologetic type expression – for a robot - before perking up again at the arrival of cake.

Before explaining JENOVA to Kamui, Sephiroth watched as he demonstrated his little … whatever that was, quirking a brow as the creature seemed to read his mind. Too much to explain? Perfect. As curious as he was, Sephiroth didn’t need to know what sort of demonic act had just occurred. So he left it at that. His curiosity unable to “get the best of him.” Without hesitation, Sephiroth slowly returned to Kamui’s side, glancing at the child now dubbed as “Joseph.” ” A rather generic name. “ He muttered, though still uncaring of what sort of name the child was given.

Returning his attention to other matters, Sephiroth began speaking of JENOVA. ” JENOVA was a ‘calamity,’ they call her, that crashed to this planet quite some years ago. When ShinRA got hold of her, they gave her to science. Through some grueling process I’d rather not get into, I was born. Withouth JENOVA, I would not exist as I do today. The wretch that bore me merely served as a surrogate, her genes do not run through my veins. “ He began, shifting his eyes to the sky. ” Her children all exist. But her legacy doesn’t continue. She wants this planet back for her own use, I intend to do it. “ He muttered, looking back to Kamui. ” What sort of son would I be if I could not fulfill my mother’s wishes? “ He shrugged slightly, implying his question was rhetorical. He wanted to hear nothing of Kamui’s opinion on his thoughts toward his mother.

With a slight sigh, Sephiroth shook his head. ” AVALANCHE is not powerful, individually. They’re rogues. People who were trained for war, then discarded. Martial artists, gunners, swordsmen – anything you can think of. Their only advantage is that they fight in numbers. ShinRA is hardly worth any concern. They will stand up against me, but they haven’t enough power to do anything about it. Their World-Regenesis Organization is nothing compared to the power of an ex-SOLDIER. They are the last on my list of priorities. “ He smirked slightly, glancing once more to the child. ” I suppose that’s all I need to tell you of their strength. “

At Dewwy’s silence, Tseng was a bit confused, glancing to her and frowning a little bit. Was she going to be alright? As she clung to him, he reached up to touch her head. ” Are you going to be alright? “ He asked, glancing as her as much as he could from the corner of his eye. As he remained focused on the little thing, almost feeling bad for her, Reno’s attention was in the sky, like a lost little child.

However, Reno had a purpose for staring at the relatively blue sky. He could hear the distant roar of a helicopter. Yeah, that was the ShinRA one he had seen on the radar, but why were they headed here? Who knew – asking the President would be out of line, you never question the President’s order. Unless, of course, you wanted your a** handed to you on a silver platter and to never have a job again; which just wasn’t in Reno’s cards. If the other chopper was coming to the island, awesome, they could help search for Coniel. If not, well, the Turks had a higher authority over any soldiers, so there. He mentally stuck his tongue out at the imaginary WRO soldier in his mind – while Tseng began to follow on Dewwy’s lead.

Almost like he was entranced, Reno remained staring at the sky until a loud, firm ”Reno.” seemed to come out of nowhere. Blinking himself out of his daze, Reno quickly caught up with Tseng and Dewwy, quirking a brow. ” Do we got any idea what this Coniel fella’ looks like? “ Reno asked, looking around and keeping an eye out for the little mutants who lived on the damn island. Unfortunately, Reno and Tseng had never actually been to the island. It was normally the SOLDIERs who went. The Turks generally stayed on the continents. But Reno knew what an ugly-a** Goblin looked like. And as far as he knew, they traveled in packs and were easy as hell to kill.

Weiss frowned, pinpointing what it was. It was dark. It was definitely Nero. He didn’t want to rush ahead of Angeal and lose sight of the man – that would kind of defeat the purpose of company. But he was itching to go after him. Weiss began to move a bit faster, deciding to take himself up on the opportunity to rush ahead of Angeal, but not too far. Only up to where a few trees began to clear, placing a hand on the tree as he looked out of the temporary bare area, lacking in trees but full of grass. With the grass around, Weiss began to look around, trying to see through the other gatherings of trees, attempting to locate Nero and ... whatever power that was with him. Was it someone he was traveling with … or something else? Nero had a bit of an issue with trusting people – but Weiss couldn’t make too many assumptions. His younger sibling may have been a bit childish, but he knew who to stay away from. And this power was foreign to him, so he wasn’t all that sure if he should be proud or worried.

Turning his head over his shoulder, he glanced to try and see Angeal, making sure he was still going to stick by. ” Whoever it is, they’ve definitely got a bit of power backing them. “ He mumbled, failing to mention that he already identified one power. Sure, he had confidence in the fact he could tell his brother’s power. He could only read Nero’s power because he had used it recently. He still must have reeked of the darkness he carried with him everywhere if he could sense him this well. ” Glad you say that. I’ve never been a fan of coincidence. “ He mused returning his glance back to the formation of trees, waiting for Angeal to either stop, or keep walking, before following him again, keeping the very little distance behind him as he had before.
