This is one of my most recent poems. I write these poems myself with the help of a book, a song, or just a piece of artwork that may trigger an idea in my head. All my poems come from the heart, so some of this expresses how I feel about two guys. In the first half, I talk about how I think I love someone, but as the poem goes on further, I find that I have developed feelings for a good friend of mine while being led to believe that I got over the other guy. I was drawn to you
You gave me butterflies
It felt like love, I was certain,
It took me a while to realize;
You were just leading me on

A look that once took my breath away,
Now ceases to entice me,
A closeness that once made my heart race,
Is no longer special to me

The nonchalance of your responses now make sense
I knew you didn’t like me,
I was a fool to suspect that you once did
But you led me on,
Just to enjoy my pain,

I should’ve noticed the falseness of it a long time ago
But I failed to see it until the last minute
Because my heart was too weak then
The open wounds of my heart help me see now,
That I have wasted all my time on you

You were never the right one for me
I have been missing it all along,
As the sun was rising,
And the flowers were blooming,
That someone else was right beside me the whole time

A look that once ceased to entice me,
Now takes my breath away
A closeness that was never special to me
Suddenly makes my heart race

I am drawn to him
He gives me butterflies
Now I know it’s love, I’m certain
It took me a while to realize;
That he was right beside me
