Chapter 7
Umbreon ran up the stairs on his base and pushed the lid that opened up to the real world. As the sun shined brightly on him, he gestured for Kate to follow him. Once she got up from the base slow and steady, they walked down a path together side by side. Pokemon and humans a like were still disgusted by the pair for both are considered evil by the opposite species. Along the way, a 12 year old boy had ran up to the girl to tell her "Your ugly, I hate you stinking gut!" while laughing. Before umbreon could do anything, the kid had vanished off leaving Kate with a broken heart. Kate never wanted any of this, she just wanted to be friends with umbreon. This was exactly when she realized if everybody but the umbreon was against her, she would befriend nobody but umbreon. She stared at the umbreon for a moment as he stared back, and then quickly wiped her face from her tears as she smiled at him. Kate had started to walk again making the umbreon walk faster to gain the lead. With Kate in back again, he traveled around town until he came across a bowling alley when he stopped.
"Wow...a real bowling alley! How cool!" said the girl in excitement. Kate had never been to an alley, let alone any place in town. Almost everything they crossed was new to her, or different from what she imagined it'd be like.
Umbreon held the door open as the girl entered the bowling alley. From the left side to the right side, there was barely anybody inside. It was like walking into a ghost town. There was only a few families playing, and few pins being knocked down where heard in the distant. Umbreon walked up to the front counter with Kate following behind her, and looked up at the manager as he stared back down at the girl. "Miss, is this pokemon with you?" the man asked. "Yes," said the girl as she smiled back. "Well in that case, you can have a free game on the house. You are the first to dare to come in with a pokemon, and with that you should be rewarded." the man replied. "You've made my day." Quickly, the man registered two people for lane number 15. As the man directed them to the lane, he told the two "Have fun."
Once Kate got to the lane, she slipped into her bowling shoes and stared at the shiny red ball. Unlike bouncy balls she was used to, these balls were big and heavy. As the umbreon watched, Kate picked up her bowling ball and slid it on the alley. The alley the man gave her had bumpers included, so the ball bounced off the gutter a few times as it rolled down the long alley. Once it finally got to the pins, the ball smacked down 8 pins. Not bad for somebody's first time. As the girl headed back to her seat to watch umbreon's turn, she stared at him as he continued to sit. "Uh...Umbreon...it's...your turn. I think." said the girl with a confused expression. Umbreon shook his head, trying to tell Kate it's still her turn. "Umbre...ummm...well? Should I go again?" she questioned. Umbreon shook his head up and down quickly. Kate looked up at the flat screen with the scores displayed, and saw her name was still highlighted. Slowly, she grabbed her ball and rolled it down the alley. As it continued on rolling, it hit down the 2 pins and gave her a spear. "Wahoooo!" she screamed as she ran back to her chair in excitement. Once she was sitting down, Umbreon leaped up and walked to the alley as his turn approached. Once his ball was in the ball dispenser, he grabbed it with his tail and approached the alley cautiously. Slow but steady, he gently placed the ball on the ground with his tail and pushed it forward with his head. The ball was going slow, but just enough to make a strike. As Umbreon headed back, he said Kate stand up and clap for him in excitement. Umbreon had been praised before by his old trainer, but never had he done it in such an exciting expression. Umbreon happily waited for Kate to bowl out her next turn as he returned to his seat.
With each new turn coming and going, the game began to get shorter and shorter. Pins were knocked down, scores were increasing, but the two never got bored of it. Once the last pin was knocked down, the two stared at the current score and realized Kate had won the game. Despite Kate being new to bowling, the girl had a natural talent for it. She may have been confused by the way the scoring worked, but the girl could sure pull off a strike. Like they say, slow and steady wins the race.
On their way out, they heard the man yell, "You're always welcome to come back again! We need people like you to show others what friendship truly is! Nice meeting a fellow pokemon trainer!". When they walked outside, darkness was approaching once again. Umbreon quickly slid under Kate's legs and then sprang up, causing Kate to be riding Umbreon. Without a moments hesitance, he dashed across the streets all the way back to his home base. It was a long run, but he could see the evil pokemon beginning to come out of their hiding spots. He knew of the dangers that would come if they didn't get home quickly enough. Somehow, someway, he would have to one day rescue them from their misery. But for now, all he worried about was making sure Kate was safe and sound.
When he arrived back to his home base, he suddenly stopped and then paused. As he looked around in all directions, he couldn't see anything but he felt the presence of an unknown ... spirit? It felt like there was a presence of three spirits floating near by. Could they have been the .... nah, he thought to himself. "Is there anything wrong, Umbreon?" Kate asked in a worried manner. Umbreon quickly shook his head left and right. When she looked a little bit calmer from before, he quickly went into his home base before worrying her anymore. How could he have acted like such an idiot, as if...as if spirits and ghosts... actually... existed...
Once inside safe and sound, Kate leaped off of Umbreon. Before he could give Kate her usual dinner, she had leaped into the bed and fell a sleep. Bowling and traveling must of warn her out. With not much left to do, he hopped into bed right next to Kate and fell asleep into the dreary night.
