Chapter 5
Around 9 Am, umbreon awakens from her long sleep. As he begins to stand up, he sees Kate resting on her back. The moment he stood up, Kate's head falls off of him and drops on the floor. Instantly from surprise, Kate awakens to see a shocked umbreon staring down at her.
"Hi," she said as she yawned sleepily.
The umbreon quickly looked away in shyness as he goes to crawl up the ladder. As he opens the door, Kate looked up in confusion. The umbreon looked down trying to tell her something before he closed the door, but Kate couldn't understand a word he said. Instead of going to follow him, Kate sits on the floor and waits for his return again. Kate decides to travel to the playroom while waiting, she hadn't played in that room yet.
As the umbreon begins to walk a new path, he gets lots of dirty looks from the other pokemon passing him. Everybody knows about the human he has befriended, word on the street must of been passed by quickly. From out of no where, a caterpie shoots a surprise string shot aimed right at him. As he gets tangled in the webs, he hears laughter coming from the caterpie and the pokemon around him. Out of fear, he quickly releases a powerful shadow ball attack to break the webs. Once he's free, he curiously looks around for the caterpie...he wants revenge. The caterpie must of left though, it's no wheres in sight. Continuing on, he walks some more distant. Around the corner, he spots a free arcade. I can take Kate here today, he thought. With his decision made, he rushes back to his base and heads back down the stairs.
As he looks all around the first room, he notices Kate is no wheres to be found. Freaked, he begins to sense out her scent. As he follows her scent, he arrives in the playroom and spots her playing. With relief, he walks over to the girl.
"Hi" said the girl as she turned around.
The umbreon gestures for the girl to leave the room and follow him. With Kate obediently following like a duckling, he leaves the room and travels back out of the base. There is sunshine, another beautiful day they both thought in their minds.
"Umbreon...you took me somewheres today. Now I want you to follow me today, I know a special place!"
Before umbreon could respond, Kate had taken the lead and started to walk. With not much he could do, he drops the arcade idea and follows Kate this time. As she walks, they continue to get more dirty stares from the other pokemon around them. But because of Kate leading this time, umbreon pays attention to where they're going and learns some new places they could visit. They pass some grocery stores, a mall, pet store, amusement park, post office, and a bowling alley. Umbreon basically has a photographic memory, so he keeps the idea's flowing for the next time while thinking about others as they pass each area. Finally, they arrive at a natural park. There's nothing man - made here, just the open fresh grass and the beautiful flowers; followed by the open skies around them.
"I used to come here often when I was alone, I think you'll like it." says the girl in a pleasant mood.
The umbreon looks at her and then stares all around, she was right. This was a really pretty place. Kate runs up to the hills and searches in the bushes, she successfully brings back a frisbee.
"I used to play with this frisbee by myself. I know it's dirty and warn out, but it still works and it can be fun. Would you like to play?"
The umbreon nods its head as he looks around. The pokemon next to them are glaring at them in a scary manner. As long as they leave before darkness, they should be fine. However, if they don't; there could be severe consequences.
Kate runs around as she tosses the frisbee high in the air. Umbreon was new to this, causing him to miss the first one. He runs to the frisbee sailing it back to Kate. Kate must of been a professional at this, she caught it and it was sailing high.
"Thats okay, keep trying!" she exclaims.
As Kate sends the next frisbee, umbreon leaps in the air and successfully catches it. As he sends it back in delight, he starts to relive the memories from his past. His old owner that ditched him used to play with him all the time. As she catches the frisbee, he lets out a little tear by accident. Even though he despised his old owner, he missed him dearly.
"Umbreon...is there something wrong?" she asks, as she begins to worry she did something wrong.
The umbreon quickly shakes off his old memories as he shakes his head left and right, resembling a no.
"Okay," she replies.
Kate goes in to throw the frisbee again when suddenly...darkness has appeared through the sun. Without a moments hesitant, he runs to Kate and quickly shoves her on his back. As she holds onto the pokemon's neck while letting go of the frisbee, he dashes back as fast as he can toward his home. Within 5 minutes away from their home, the darker pokemon start to appear...one by one. Lounging out of their hiding spots, they watch the frightened umbreon dashing. One group was about to attack, but decided not to. Despite the umbreon's looks, he was quite strong; and they could realize that. As he reaches his destination, he makes sure nobody is watching. Once it was clear, he heads down the latter and into his base.
Once he enters the ground of the base, he gently lets the girl off of his back. With some time left, he walks into the kitchen and brings back some berries for the girl.
"Oh...thank you." she said in gratitude.
"But why did you rush home so fast?"
Umbreon tries to tell her by looking up at the ceiling, indicating the outside.
"Oh...the shadow pokemon?"
He begins to nod up and down as he gestures her towards the berries.
"Okay...I'll have some."
Kate begins to split them up again, giving umbreon the bigger half as usual. As the girl placed his berries near him, she began to eat her serving. With all of the food, she slowly starts to rebuild her appetite. Umbreon as usual ate his serving fast compared to Kate who took a hour. The berries were slowly running out, they'd soon have to pick more. As they finished up, umbreon brang out a blanket for them to rest on during the night. It was softer then sleeping on the cold floor, but he hoped to have a cushion for her soon. Once everything was done, the two laid down for the night and fell a sleep shortly.
