"What... what is going on? Where am I? ... What is 'where?' ...What is 'I?' .... I... I hear.. I hear voices... from somewhere. From... outside. ...Outside. What is that? The... voices. They are... speaking. I am speaking. ...I am in... here. They are out.. there. I am in. They are out.

I must get out."

First, one eye opened. Then, the other. The pair of eyes scanned the room that they were in. There were... people there. Odd people, bustling about in white coats. They looked frantic. Some were old, others younger. None were very young. The thing that the eyes belonged to inhaled. Water filled it's lungs. The eyes widened and the thing's body seized and began to spasm to get the water out of it's lungs. Water kept filling the lungs. The thing could not breathe. The eyes darted around desperately. The people in the white coats ran around. Two or three ran towards the thing. The eyes began to cloud over. It's vision began to fail. Blackness took over. The thing lost consciousness.

One eye opened. Then the other. The thing vomited water. The eyes saw someone standing over him. The thing kept coughing up water and started choking slightly. Firm hands gripped him and held him steady. As he got the water out of his system, he heard the voices again, but this time they were much clearer. He could tell he was on the outside now. He was out. The person standing over him muttered something. The thing couldn't pick it up completely. The one part that was clear was a word. Experiment. Experiment, it thought. Is that.. what I am? Ex... peri... ment. Experiment. "Ex..." The thing began to speak. More of the people began to crowd around him. "Ex... per..i..." He had trouble forming the sounds. "Exper...i...m...ent... Experi...ment..." He heard astonished voices around him form the people. The thing lost consciousness.
