so there i was, a thousand fingers on me, and the jazz legend Dennis Rowland wanting me to play. he motioned me with his finger to the mike. our lead alto sax (just a fancy name for higher sounding saxaphone) must have seen me as he backed off. i went to the mike, and played.
and i played good.
i never really improvd in my life, but there i was, in front of people i didn't know, playing for a jazz legend i never heard of (he's very popular by the way) and for my family in the audience.
and i was up there for a while. you probably don't know this, but improv solos are usually no more that a minute or so, shorter, even. i was up there for a few minutes. it felt like eternity eventually i ran out of notes to play, but kept playing. i don't know how i knew, but i knew when the song was ending. and i finished out the song for Dennis Rowland. i was extremely happy, cuz i messed up so bad but only i really heard it biggrin
so, after the show, i did a victory dance in the band room, cuz i was so scared doing that solo. people came up to me telling me it was so amazing. i laughed so much.
i wish that bliss lasted the night.
