I was on Deviant Art where my friend made an interesting point about Armageddon. We as a species have advanced quite a bit. Our advancement also makes us weak. For ages if we were hungry that means we just go out and kill something and eat it. Now if we are hungry we go check out the refrigerator. If there's nothing there then we do nothing about it.
We become part of this large organism that doesn't even understand the value of life. We might say life is sacred, but really how sacred is it? We have muscles, skin, bone, and blood. We're like so many billions of animals who have lived and died already. When we die we are apparently supposed to have some big fancy ceremony and put the body in the ground to rot. Why bother? If I die tonight I don't want my body put in some expensive box and put in the ground to rot while people around me act like it's so terrible I'm dead. Either harvest me for spare parts or dump my corpse in a ditch and call it good. I don't care either way.
Anyway these apocalyptic and post apocalyptic things really tend to get my interest. Zombie survival movies and post apocalyptic states of anarchy hold my attention. Movies like V for Vendetta where the people can tear down an oppressive government or Fight Club where people break free of the corporate meaningless bullshit are inspirational. The Columbine shootings even have a place in my heart. Terrible things happen, but out of the bad it shows how we can be so trapped in this world and how with a little inspiration we can break free of these invisible barriers that chain us down.
