the fire that heals


She awoke with a start, the dark window now shone a soft orange light but not from the sun. no, this light was coming from under her chamber door. she also noticed it was warmer in her chamber. the young woman jumped up from the sill and ran to her door, throwing it open, she was greeted immediately by flame. shreiking, she slammed the door and patted out the spot fires on her skirts. she could hear similar shrieks as the children down the corridor opened their doors, unable to shut them. she felt tears fall down her face as she walked hastilly to the hidden pannel in the wall. the flames licked under her door, eager to swollow her aswell. she quickly found the small leather pouch with her earnings, and a letter from her lover. reaching in behind the wood, she drew out a medium sized sword. her past life closing in on her. Quickly, she walked quickly to the window, and, unlatching it, tossed the bag down. she strapped the sword to her back and jumped. tears freezing on her cheeks.
