It's very interesting how love seems to evolve over time. You might say that it starts with a kind of lust - whether purely for physical beauty, or (more commonly) for the whole of a person, their spirit and their brain as well as their body. But that doesn't last too long. That can be disrupted easily, in fact.
But there's something that can come after that, and it's a kind of attachment, along with an intellectual and emotional attraction to the target of your affection. The glands have quieted down and it's no longer about sex, it's about being with someone. And you might smile at the thought of them, and you might hold them and enjoy their company, and that only reinforces it.
That's what real love is, once the lust has passed. And even this attraction and attachment isn't unbreakable. Betrayals can certainly disrupt it, as can time. But if both people involved work at it, it can remain strong for a while.
It's a softer, gentler kind of love. I think I'm in it, with someone I only recently discovered feels the same way.
