reading Memoirs of a Geisha, and Sayuri had resolved to risk everything, her career and her reputation, and overall Nobu's feelings, to be with the one she loved. She didn't even know if the Chairman returned her feelings, but to her, "a life without the Chairman was no life at all."
I remember thinking, How could she do that? How could she risk a secure, relatively happy future for a dream future that might not even happen? And the part I just couldn't understand; no matter how much she wanted the Chairman, how could she bear to hurt Nobu?
Well.
But really, which choice would have been better?
