The Zombie Story

It was a dark night and a storm was raging outside in the town of Sandwich, MA. Yes, this is an actual town. The street lights were lighting up the quiet road. Soon the storm came to a light drizzle, then suddenly stopped. I took a calming walk around town. The grasshoppers were humming in the grass. I could only hear them and my barely audible footsteps. I could see lights flickering off in people’s houses.
I lost track of where I was going because of my daydreaming. I finally looked up to find myself at the corner of Main St and River Drive in the parking lot of a bookstore that used to be a costume shop. I thought the inside was a little weird; there were eyes in jars, skulls, weapons like machetes, and sharks that have been stuffed and hung like trophies on the wall. There was barely any room to move around in the store. The book store seemed endless. I thought I was in the back room when I saw no doors leading back.
Suddenly I stopped in my tracks when I see a book lying in the middle of the room. I picked it up and read the front page, “Zombie Protection: Be Protected from the Undead”. I searched whole book but never found the authors’ name. I expected that.
“Hello?” I called out into the bookstore. I hear footsteps but see no one. I turned and saw a dark figure in the doorway. He came into the light and I could see his grotesque, wrinkled silver skin in the light of the lamp. I knew right then I had to defend myself. I grabbed the rusty old machete off the rotting wooden shelf. IT WAS ZOMBIE SLAYING TIME! I swung the machete and cut his head clean off. The body collapsed but the head kept biting the air. I cut the head in a sort of 1/3 2/3 fraction. My mind was still reeling from a zombie coming. I grabbed the book, got a better grip on the machete, and ran like the wind!
