Face facts: pessimism and Christianity don't mix. Why? Because Christians have every reason to be optimistic about life here on earth and life eternal. Mrs. Charles E. Cowman advised, "Never yield to gloomy anticipation. Place your hope and confidence in God. He has no record of failure."
Sometimes, despite our trust in God, we may fall into the spiritual traps of worry, frustration, anxiety, or sheer exhaustion, and our hearts become heavy. What's needed is plenty of rest, a large dose of perspective, and God's healing touch, but not necessarily in that order.
Today, make this promise to yourself and keep it: vow to be a hope-filled Christian. Think optimistically about your like, your education, your family, and your future. Trust your hopes, not your fears. Take time to celebrate God's glorious creation. And then, when you've filled your heart with hope, share your optimism with others. They'll be better for it, and so will you. But not necessarily in the order.
Thoughts for today:
Make the least of all that goes and the most of all that comes. Don't regret the past. Cherish what you have. Look forward to all, rely moment by moment on Jesus Christ.
If you can't tell whether your glass is half-empty or half-full, you don't need another glass; what you need is better eyesight... And a more thankful heart.
A tip for today:
Focus on possibilities, not stumbling blocks: Of course, you will encounter occasional disappointments, and, from time to time, you will encounter failure. But, don't invest large quantities of your life focusing on past misfortunes. Instead, look to the future with optimism and hope.
A prayer for today:
Thank you, Lord, for Your infinite love. Make me an optimistic Christian, Father, as I place my hope and my trust in You. Amen.
A verse for today:
But if we look forward to something we don't have yet, we must wait patiently and confidently. Romans 8:25 NLT
