The knives of wind, the ice and snow covering her bare skin, and the pain of the cold was left ignored. She felt numb to it all, her worry and terror occupying her thoughts as she raced across the field, to the acres of trees she grew up thinking of as her own little forest. Pushing her way through the branches void of leaves, sliping on patches of ice and snow, she nearly tripped over something lying on the ground. Stumbling, she regained her balance and looked down, her breathing hard, the ice-cold air sending shocks of pain into her chest and lungs. A gasp escaped her lips, as she fell onto her knees next to the snow-covered figure. His name was a whisper in the wind as she grabbed his hand. She quickly dropped it in horrified shock, his hand was as stiff and cold as ice, his fingers pale and unmoving. Quickly she stood, trying to lift him, wanting him to wake up, to tell her this is all a joke. He did neither. Unable to move him more than a foot or two, she fell again to her knees, burrying her face in her hands, sobs tearing through the ice cold air and her pained lungs. She struggled against the helplessness that threatened to consume her, but the pain and shock was too much.. was he gone, was he dead? These thoughts flashed repeatedly through her mind as she slowly laid her head on the figures chest. Slowly she fell into darkness.. even the cold and pain forgotten as all was lost.
