Memorial Day is largely regarded as a day to give tribute and respectful pause to those who have given their lives in the service of our country...and also a three day weekend to spend on the lake. For whatever reason you might be celebrating today just be safe.
Memorial Day for me, though, signals a long stretch of time during the year that, for the past two years, become easier and harder to face. It brings good times; A-kon, my birthday, summertime with friends.
But it was during this stretch of time, these next coming three months, that I faced a hard emotional battle during the final days of my mother's sickness and dealing with her death afterward.
I'm not going to swell over it right now. I was just thinking about her today more then normal because of the events and because I'll be leaving for A-kon on Thursday. I used to call her there everyday to check in. Seemed silly at the time but I'm going to miss it.
