SPOILER ALERT: Don't Read If You Want BND To Be A Surprise.
Pete Wentz 4-16-09
SPOILER ALERT: dont read this if you want the BND show to be in anyway a surprise for you
“Once All Time Low left the stage, a half hour later, Fall Out Boy and men dressed in SWAT outfits took the stage in front of a screen projecting a riot in action.

Yeah, they went there.

Patrick Stump was wearing a wig, and all the members were wearing suits – it gets worse.

After the opening song, Pete Wentz launched into some rambling diatribe about how they were given a stage and they will use it to educate the world about the corruption of the government. Then we had to watch a stupid video about politics while they changed into their rockstar outfits.

Seriously? Cut the political crap and just play your music. In case you didn’t notice, the majority of your listeners can’t even vote.

Looking beyond the over-dramatized speeches, the set wasn’t half bad. And I wanted to enjoy it, I really did. I just couldn’t get past how primadonna they acted. Thanks Fall Out Boy, you ruined my Metro Station high.”

IM GOING KANYE AND GOING ALL CAPS ON THIS ONE. SPELLING AND GRAMMAR SHOULD BE IGNORED AS WELL (AS I ALWAYS DO). THE ONLY THING I TAKE OFFENSE AT FROM THIS REVIEW IS “CUT THE POLITICAL CRAP” AND THE IDEA THAT OUR FANS ARE EITHER TOO YOUNG OR TOO STUPID TO GET IT. WHEN WE WERE PLANNING THIS TOUR IT BEGAN WITH THE IDEA THAT WE WANTED TO KEEP THE TICKET PRICE LOW. WE UNDERSTAND IN A RECESSION THAT THE FIRST THING PEOPLE CUT FROM THEIR LIVES ARE THE ARTS: CONCERTS, MOVIES, ETC. THAT WAS OUR ONLY GOAL. THEN WHEN FLYING TO EUROPE I READ A PIECE ON MADOFF IN VANITY FAIR I BELIEVE. MY MIND WAS BLOWN. NOT BECAUSE OF WHAT HE HAD DONE. ANYONE WHO DOESNT LIVE UNDER A ROCK KNOWS ABOUT AIG, MADOFF, CORPORATE BAILOUTS ETC. BUT THIS ARTICLE HUMANIZED ISSUE FOR ME. IT SHOWED HOW THIS GUY STABBED HIS FRIENDS IN THE BACK. HOW HE TURNED EVERYONE OVER. IT MADE ME THINK OF PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR JOBS OR THEIR HOMES. BUT NOT IN SOME CNN WAY, MORE THOSE PEOPLE ARE REAL THEY ARENT JUST A STATISTIC. THIS IS WHEN WE DECIDED TO INCORPORATE THIS IDEA INTO A SHOW. WE CREATED A FAKE FIRM MV AND P (MVANDPFIRM.COM). WE CREATED ALTER EGOS. WE JUST FELT LIKE BECAUSE WE HAD THIS STAGE IT WAS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SPEAK TO SOMETHING WE BELIEVE IN. YES IT IS AN ACT. YES THEY ARE CHARACTERS. THERE WAS NO VIRAL MARKETING- IN THE END IT WAS JUST TO GET PEOPLE TO LOOK AT IT ON A MORE HUMAN LEVEL.

THERES MORE COMING. IF YOU DONT WANT TO HEAR IT STAY FOR THE FIRST FEW BANDS AND LEAVE. THAT WONT GET US TO SHUT UP. WE DONT CARE. I BELIEVE OUR FANS AND THE PEOPLE IN THE CROWD DO GET IT. I DONT CARE IF THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH TO VOTE OR 14. TO CHANGE THINGS WE NEED EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES ON BOARD. WE DONT HAVE A SOLUTION. WE ARENT SHOVING A POLITICAL AGENDA DOWN YOUR THROAT. ALL WE WANT TO DO IS CAST A GIANT SPOTLIGHT ON AN ISSUE AND MAKE IT ABOUT THE PEOPLE NOT THE NUMBERS.

END RANT. SORRY IF I RUINED IT FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVENT SEEN THE SHOW OR ARE STILL TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FIGHT CLUB. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MEET AND GREETS.

DONT WORRY THERES MORE TO COME. SUCKS TO HAVE TO SHOW PEOPLE HOW YOU DO THE MAGIC TRICK BEFORE YOURE DONE DOING IT. PLEASE DONT REPOST THIS. I DONT WANT TO RUIN THE SHOW FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW.

I love what Pete said in this journal post. As a diehard fan of many bands, particularly a band that Pete Wentz himself discovered, Panic At The Disco, I can completely see where Pete is coming from. Growing up with only one working parent, going to concerts and shows is a privilege. I don't go out and see mainstream bands every weekend. Even if I had a job (like there are so many available rolleyes !)and could afford to buy my own ticket, I still wouldn't the way college tuition is heading.

Not only as a fan do I believe in what Pete is trying to say, but as a performer. As a vocalist of a band who is presented a stage sometimes a few times per month, I completely agree. When you're on stage, you don't just want to sing your little diddy and be done. You want to speak to people; you want to prove a point. I give Fall Out Boy so much credit for trying to do something good for this world. They have the spotlight; let them use it to its fullest potential. Those kids in the audience are the future. Sure, they might be 14, but if they are going to be persuaded to try to help the world, it's going to be by something they love, such as their favorite rock band.

As a future music journalist, I'm absolutely disgusted by the poor quality review this journalist wrote. When you're a journalist, everything you write is presented to the public. This should have never left the editor's desk.

I remember when Pete posted that 3nodding I completely agreed with him... and now I agree with you!

Instead of trashing FOB for trying to spread a message, the press should be thanking them. FOB does a much better job than they do! xp
