Two months ago...
It was late. Well passed midnight. Artemis sat quietly at her desk, leaning back in her chair and strumming a sweet tune on her guitar. Rare as the occurrence was, she did not feel the necessity to drink that night and she did not have patrol-duty. No, tonight, she would simply relax. A pleasant breeze blew in from the open window, flipping the corners of her sheet music. From the corner of her eye, she caught odd movement that did not belong to her curtains. Turning her head only slightly, she looked towards the window.
There crouched on her windowsill, was a man. She met his gaze for just a moment. The name Ares shot into her mind. Artemis blinked. The man was gone. Artemis blinked again and returned to her guitar, resolving to ignore the indecent completely. Ares is in town, she thought to herself, Who knew? She was completely unphased.
Two Days Later...
Artemis entered her usual drinking hole. It was only a block from her apartment and offered cheap liquor. It wasn't the best, but when you needed it, a drink was a drink. As she entered, she noticed at the end of the bar, the very same man who had been perched on her windowsill two nights ago leaning coolly against the wall, sipping from a half-empty glass of vodka. Artemis shook her head and sat herself down two seats away from him.
"Afternoon, Ares," she greeted indifferently, looking towards the back of the bar for a bottle that would suit her.
"Centuries, Artemis," Ares replied, not looking up from his drink. He appeared as uninterested in her as she was in him.
She held up two fingers to the barkeep and pointed at the bottle of vodka that was resting on the counter. The man promptly delivered to her two glasses and and the bottle and scurried away to the other patrons. She set one glass down in front of herself and the other in front of the seat next to her.
Ares downed the remainder of the liquid in his glass and closed his eyes. "You're quick," he said.
"So are you," Artemis grinned, obviously referencing the man's stealthy escape two nights before. She poured vodka into both glasses. "My tab. Enjoy."
"No objections." Ares snatched the glass from the bar and downed it it one noisy gulp.
