Animation 1 students. >>
To be fair, its not all of them. Its just the one. But she has this kind of influence on the rest of them that makes me wonder if they're all going to follow along or not.

So today there was a visiting artist in my metals class. She uses the rapid prototyping machine to turn 3D maya files into physical objects, and has kind of made something very technical into something very much an art medium. Its pretty cool.

Well, this one animation 1 student was talking all through her presentation instead of paying attention. Very rude. Then the artist brings out a few of the actual object to show us what they actually look like... showed us some student work. Then our prof brings out some of the things that our students have done with our prototyper. She passes them around and one of them reaches a certain animation student.

She's commenting on it: "This was an animation 1 student's work. And its so much better than HER work, and she's in animation... what? 3? 4?" She was looking at me. There was no one else that she could have possibly been talking about because I'm the only 3/4 student in that class.

Keep in mind, this chick is Animation 1. SHE is in ANIMATION ONE. Assuming that she hasn't had classes in Maya before, she is just beginning in the program. And Maya is damn finnicky. So... I don't know. She could be better than me. Whatever. Still ******** rude.

What you might not know about the animation department at BSU is that we've had a different teacher every year since the program started. Andy, the prof we have now, is the first animation teacher with any kind of credentials in the US and is the first professor we've had that has tenure, and experience both in the field and teaching. So for the past three years, I've been getting the wrong information from my professors because they don't know what they're doing. Animation 1 students are spoiled. They've got Andy to teach them from the start. Meanwhile, we're playing catch-up so that we're not here for an extra three years just to get our demo reel done.

I wanted to rip her face off. I haven't said anything to this girl and she has the ******** gall to insult my art in front of everyone without knowing my background. Without knowing all the bullshit I've had to put up with because I got dealt a rotten hand. I mean... I don't care what she says about me. She can call me a whore. Its a lie, but I'm used to it. She can call me a b***h: I can be kind of bitchy. But she insulted my artwork! I wasn't shoving it in her face. I wasn't telling her how much better than everyone else's it was. It was just in the display case and I didn't put it there!

It wasn't necessary. All this "I'm better than you" s**t needs to ******** stop before I blow a ******** gasket.

She could have just left it at "This is by an animation 1 student. That's pretty good." But she had to include a rip about me. I don't rip apart her ego... >>

Hasn't she ever heard of "constructive criticism?"

Ignore her as best you can. My roommate just keeps her "Uh huh, thanks for the crit" face on, no matter how much the person pisses her off until she gets home. Then she rips into her, her mom, her grandma, and the family donkey until she gets it out of her system.

Might not work for you, but it might make you feel a little bit better and you won't have to worry about a confrontation in the classroom. The girl will learn eventually or else she probably won't get very far in her field.

Personality is important in job searching and retention, or so I've observed.

There's a fine, fine line between talent and ability or tecnique.

Just because someone can draw with a crayon doesn't make it a good drawing.

That's to say, maybe she has more of the know-how, and she has it thanks to that teacher... but I somehow doubt she has the talent that you have.

After all, it's very hard to bring across a message through art.

Art is not "It looks pretty."

Art is "It makes me feel..." Or "It makes me think that..."

Wouldn't you agree, my fine artist friend? ^_^

And what did that student have to say about her own work?
    "Oh, it's pretty good. >D"

Only physically? That's too sad. She should work harder. >D

.... Was Eleanor Rigby written in 1973? >_>
    No? Alright, then. >.>;
