Life's one and only Save Point
And yet, I still can't start where I last saved...
Silent Hill Story
Silent Hill: Lost Empathy: Part Three Redo

I stilled my breathing as I slowly pushed the door open. The sounds suddenly stopped and I paused. It felt like years passed within the seconds that sweat beaded down my face. Breathing in deeply, I put more weight against the door. It gave way bit by bit as more weight found it's place against the thick wood. Mentally I counted down from three and sighed. A grunt expelled from my throat as I slammed into the door and thrust out the gun, my right arm supported against my left which held the flashlight. The noise I'd wanted to investigate was gone even still and I took a few steps into the room. It looked like the same rooms as were through the entire Wood Side Apartment building... same ugly drapes, same room set up, everything. Two more steps and I positioned myself against the wall, looking now into the fullness of the living area. There was still more of the apartment that I couldn't see, which bothered me greatly. It felt so much warmer in this room than anywhere else. Reluctantly,I raised my left arm to brush the sweat from my face.

It was then that my flashlight died. Swearing as loudly as I dared, I tapped it a few times on my hip, but nothing happened. There were no spurts of light, there was just that strangely inviting darkness. I pocketed the item and tried to give my eyes some time to adjust to the lack of light.

The screaming drew my attention before my sight had fully returned. I knew it came from my left but I couldn't figure out what it was. Scratching seemed very close by and I felt a presence to my right. I felt flanked. Heavy breathing which matched my own seemed to announce ill-intent and there was movement toward the scratching. Whatever it was, both entities seemed to be distracted enough and I broke into a run toward the hallway. My gun was drawn and pointed in front of me. Unable to see, I slammed my right shoulder into the door frame and the firearm flew from my hands.

The scratching turned into a wild screaming and I could hear the sound of plastic banging against flesh, accompanied by grunts. It mesmerized me and I stopped running, listening to the distinct sound. I found myself intoxicated by the rhythmic constancy of it all. It was almost erotic.

The door creaked again and I dashed deeper into the complete darkness. I was enraged at the interruption, wanting to watch the sound play out and see what could have such an effect on me. Shame took over, however, and I found myself running away as light spilled into my hiding place and there was the clicking of the closet door.

I started to exit the hall, vowing revenge on whoever interrupted, but a gunshot stopped me. Letting out a frustrated grunt of my own, I moved back into the darkness. Without thinking, I ran from where I stood and flung myself out the window.
