So I wrote this poem after something happened with a guy I had a crush on for four years. It's quite depressing, and I wrote it in about 10 minutes while I was crying.

For so long I waited
Till courage would arrive
For so long I debated
Till I thought the feeling could survive

That day that I awaited
Had finally come around
That phrase that I had stated
Sent my hope down to the ground

Was it all the time I waited?
Did bravery come too late?
I'm sorry my courage was sedated
My spirit cold as slate

Maybe they were right
I should've answered the call
But the age-old Lover's paralyzing fright
That I might lose it all

I was ready just to risk it
Regret was just too much
After that longingly wished for visit
My wish was like a crutch

That crutch has since been broken
My aspirations never to be reached
That statement just a token
Of my heart that has been breached

At least I've learned from my mistake
To never try again
But know this now: my answer was fake
I wanted to say yes, way back when

So the battle's finally over
Between myself and I
My emotions now take cover
Behind a smile that's a lie
