Poetry Time!
There are some poems I had to write for creative writing. the last two are my favorite. It's is greatly hoped that SOMEONE will give some constructive comment beyond "it was good." Whoever gives the best assistance gets a prize.

Also, whoever reads and comments on the story i wrote in previous entries gets an ultimate prize (because it's so long). To prove you read th whole thing, I want a basic (1-2 sent) summary. Again, the best advisor gets the ultimate prize for the story and a smaller prize for the poetry (I also need help with titles. the best one gets a prize).

Unfound Hope

My body is an empty vessel
Longing for a purpose
My soul is a trapped canary
Singing in the dark
Who will hear this voice of mine
In the dark, inclosing gloom?
Who will reach inside my heart
And let my brilliance bloom?

Untitled

There stood a box upon the table
Upon the podium, the alter
Candles cast demons about the box
Dancing and twirling
A new home of darkness among the light

In come the classes
Paler than the box they worship
That white box
Gleaming by the flickering flames

Embarrassed they are of the sighs
Escaping their lips
The sighs of boredom with their obsession
Obsession of glorifying this box
The pure, mysterious box

The box,
It holds a bumper full of miracles
Or an empty promise
A worshipped cube, glorified in faith

The followers must make offerings to this box
An animal, blood, a soul
This room, kept for the honor of the box
The sickbay of the mindless
The soulless
The followers

Dragon War

My scales all shimmer and shake
A bright and vibrant blue
The sun reflects their brilliance
Enhancing a glorious hue

My tail swishes back and forth
A rudder in the wind
Upon the ground it?s a snake
Under which my fodder is pinned

Hell burns deep within my belly
And teeth are soldier?s swords
?Jagged diamonds,? my claws are deemed
My might unexpressed in words

For years I seize and plunder
For centuries I fly
For decades my power builds
My treasure heaped to the sky

Then invaders crawled my land
My territory, my heaven
After my trove these animals were
Their strength, a score times seven

How dare these creatures come to me
My home, my cave, my kingdom
How stupid they are to fight me
Their wee small heads lack wisdom

For I am the mighty, the invincible
The Lord of every sky
I claim the land, the air, the sea
I am ruler until I die

Ne?er shall I forget that night
The dark of Hallows Eve
An army amassed before my door
Every sword unsheathed

Fire flew from my side
Arrows raced from theirs
I soared to war upon the wind
The army came on mares

Throughout the night of spirits
The battle raged and roared
I, for my treasure, stood alone
The enemy attacked in scores

I scorched the land and threw the mountains
I fought and flailed and shook
The sea of men kept growing
Twice as big with every look

Nothing detoured these monstrous beasts
Nothing caused retreat
A noxious gas filled the air
I knew they had me beat

But I am of the Rakshan Clan
We never turn tail and run
Only when Life?s fire leaves me
Will this war be done

The fumes have finally performed their task
Too dizzy am I to fly
Landing amongst the densest ranks
I crush a few, then die

Fallen is my majestic grace
Gone is my legend of terror
The trove that once engulfed my cave
Brings honor to the wearer

But let me make it known throughout the land
My defeat cost something dear
For I was the last of the majestic Lords
No more shall my kind dwell here

No more shall our magic heal the sick
No more shall die the greedy
Storms will ravage the earth of men
Help, refused the needy

Be glad you who live in squander
Revel, whose souls waste away
For gold your men attacked
And killed all hope this day

Untitled

Light plays on the Saints
Scenes of crucifixions and miracles
Emblazoned in a fiery display as the setting sun dances upon the glass
Crosses adorn every hallway and dormitory and classroom
Nuns parade about,
Solemn and unwavering,
The chaste vessels of God?s teachings
Bibles lay in heaps
Thrown carelessly into the stony corner
The same corner used for His messages by centuries of boys before
The front gates stand closed
Locked, barred, imprisoning the hundreds of young men
Boys sent to Catholic school by God?s devoted parents
Boys who, though bursting with creative ambitions,
Force themselves into solid, black jackets and slacks
Studying as doctors and lawyers and government officials
Diverging from their soul?s path
To please the parents
To please the masses
To please the God that watches over them
They squash those ridiculous notions of poetry
Of novels
Of acting
Of singing
They push those ambitions to the corner
Like the Bibles left undisturbed upon the cold, unyielding stonework
So are their dreams left unused
Waiting for someone to come along
And pry the cover open

This was okay, i didnt quite understand the change in the poem.. i highlighted the part i thought kinda contradicted itself. saying, boys sent to catholic school, then it says that they are there to study as doctors, lawyers, and gov. officials... question im confused. anyways, the other ones were great and so was this one too, but, i just didnt really understand this one.. sorry..

The box poem i had to write in creative writing. The teacher gave us the words: sick bay, classes, home, crying, embarrassed, sighs, candles, paler, bumper, and box. We had to write a poem using ALL the words in the tenses shown.

We watched "The Dead Poet's Society" and had to write a poem about a theme or emotion in the movie. That's how I got the idea of studying as doctors and lawyer and goverment officials. Because in the movie, they were in a scool to study for hings like that, but there was a definite religious theme to the school (catholicism)

    *is here to help*

Do I get prizes? I'll be looking for some in the very near future.

Okay, the first one, wonderful, darling. As for a title? Hmm... Losing Hope. Maybe. Finding Hope. A Hope Lost. A Hope Found. I dunno. Play around with it.

The second one I found rather disturbing, but considering I had the same assignment, and the resulting poem made no sense at all, and could not-so-kindly stick itself somewhere unpleasant, I'll refrain from commenting. I actually applaud you, considering what you had to work with.

The third one I've read and have extensively edited.

The fourth I found almost objectionable, simply because I'm a Catholic. And, just because you go to a Catholic school doesn't mean you're becoming a priest or a nun. Thought I should clarify that for your other commenter. But, still, from an objective view, well done. So, kudos to you.

    Toodles! ~Hikari_K

Actually, I didn't say that they were going to become priests or nuns. I did mention nuns in the school, but I actually said that they were studying to become doctors and lawyers and government officials...

And If there's anything overly objectionable, please tell me. I like it the way it is, but it will give me reference for any future poems.
