Album:What I Learned About Ego, Opinion, Art, and Commerce
Song:Up Yours
As I hope you found out by the title, this is just what I have to say because I'm bored. I have quite a few things to say about my "Currently listening to" section.
But first, I was on a site called absolutegoo.com (on the forum page) and found the following picture in someone's signature.

Below the picture in their signature, it said "This is one of those 'Wait a minute' times." I found this hilarious. Those of you who don't know the Goo Goo Dolls won't get it without my telling you. There is a song on the album A Boy Named Goo (yes, the title is a take off from a Bob Dylan album) called Naked. No, the song is not about a naked person. Eiw... But the sign could be taken as, "Came 800 miles to see you play naked" or "Came 800 miles to see you play Naked." It's just hilarious to me, though. And it was on the Today Show, too. I wonder what Johnny Rzeznik said when he pulled it up. Was it anything like the "Polish Guys Kick a**" sign from Live In Buffalo?
Anyway...
I ordered a CD off of WalMart.com last week. The album is called What I Learned About Ego, Opinion, Art, and Commerce, and it is a Greatest Hits of sorts of the Goo Goo Dolls from 1987-2000. Sadly, Iris and Name aren't on it. But those are on the radio often. And there are even better songs on the CD. Now, I don't have to get out each CD just to hear one song; I can just pop EOAC in and hear all the good ones. Unfortunately, my Goo CD collection only goes back to Superstar Carwash. EOAC helped me get over that. The last six songs are from the albums before that, one of them being the CD version of one of the songs they played in Buffalo.
Instantly, I fell in love with Just the Way You Are. The song is wonderful and reminds me of one of my characters. Also, it's Johnny Rzeznik...when he was like 24! *faints* He's so young in that song! As the CD goes on through the last six songs, they get older. After Just the Way You Are was Two Days In February, which they performed in Buffalo. I read an interview and Johnny Rzeznik said that they had to re-record that one because there was belching and talking and other stuff in the background. It makes me wonder what the original sounds like...
Song 21. The shortest on the CD, I think, at 3:38. Up Yours. One of the most hilarious songs I've ever heard, if not the most hilarious. I'm guessing by a review that I read of the CD that it was recorded live in the studio. But I barely recognised Johnny's voice! He sounds like Tim Pagnotta from Sugarcult! The song is one of their punk songs from when JR was 21. 21! The lyrics and the way they are sung makes me laugh every time. I let two of my friends on my bus listen to it, and they ended up laughing, too. The song is really hard to hear on the bus because JR's voice is rougher than usual and blends in with the bus's sound. I was actually inspired to write something between Blake LeHara and Rox Calvina from my story Silver. Let me find the lyrics...
All right. These are directly from googoodolls.com, only I've edited them for the sake of this site. (No changes in the lyrics, just censoring on some of the words.)
Up yours
Stop your whining
Feeling swell
I'm doing fine
Yeah f**k your suicide
It's all bulls**t 'cause I tried
And it really don't impress me all that much
Up yours
What you find
Sit right down
I got time
And you say here comes the end
And you haven't got a friend
And I'm standing here just screaming at the wall
Up yours
Stop your whine
What ya got
I got mine
And you shake your stupid head
And you wish that you were dead
And I swear sometimes you're happier than me
And you know it's hard to be
All the things you want me to be
And you go and make it hard on me
But I swear that anything you could be I could be can't you see
Up yours
Got no mind
That's too bad
You got time
Yeah, f**k your silly game
'Cause it's driving me insane
Stop your whining
Feeling swell
I'm doing fine
Yeah f**k your suicide
It's all bulls**t 'cause I tried
And it really don't impress me all that much
Up yours
What you find
Sit right down
I got time
And you say here comes the end
And you haven't got a friend
And I'm standing here just screaming at the wall
Up yours
Stop your whine
What ya got

And you wish that you were dead
And I swear sometimes you're happier than me

But I swear that anything you could be I could be can't you see
Up yours
Got no mind
That's too bad
You got time

'Cause it's driving me insane
You have to hear the song to realize how funny it is...
Holy wow! I was reading fan encounters on another GGD site and there was this one frm a mother who took her ten-year-old daughter to a Goo concert on her tenth birthday. They were right in front of the stage and JR says, "Are you all right?" to her. Then everyone aroung the little girl kept screaming "It's her birthday! It's her birthday!" Johnny Rzeznik kneels in front of her and says, "It's your birthday?" The girl says, "Yes." JR asks, "How old are you?" The girl held up ten fingers. Later on, the band went off stage because the concert was over. And then JR comes back out with the guitar he'd played for the final song and hands it to the girl. The guitar was signed by him Robbie, and Mike, and said "Happy B-Day" on it. OMG!! That girl is sooo lucky! I am so jealous right now...I don't even want to talk about it.
Oh, my computer died. Not this one, of course, but my faster one with all my stories and the printer. It just up and died. Actually, the electrics fried. The harddrive should be okay, though. This computer that I'm typing on now was rented from Rentway along with the one my sister is on right now. My mom rented them yesterday so we could get on for the Halloween events. How nice is that? Only a few problems, though: I can't download anything (like Flash for animations or Macromedia to play music) and I can't save anything to the harddrive unless I delete it when we take these computers back.
I tried to put my one floppy disk that has a lot of my stuff on it into the floppy drive on this computer and it said "This disk is not formatted. Would you like to format this disk now?" OMG! I hope it's just something wrong with the computer! I'd be heartbroken if I lost all that stuff!
My sister and I were at the library yesterday morning before my mom got the computers and I checked my E-mail on AOL. Guess who E-mailed me?? Sugarcult! It was probably sent to everyone signed up for E-mail notices, but it was still special. And it was the same information that was on their main page two weeks ago, but I don't care. This one had a picture of their new album. A live album called "Back to the Disaster". The line is from their summer single Memory. On the CD/DVD set will be a full-length documentary, live footage, behind-the-scenes stuff, pictures, and more. The CD is going to have about 10 live songs on it (there is an exact number, I just can't remember it at this time...). Unfortunately, there's nothing from the concert I went to. Or maybe there is and it just doesn't say...?
EOAC has Internet features if you put it into the computer. I haven't tried it yet, but I might have to when I finish this. The computer probably won't play it, though. IT'S GOT THE VIDEO FOR WE ARE THE NORMAL ON IT!! I have never soon it and probably won't be able to until we get the computer fixed.
Funny thing about that song: Everyone always says that the Goo Goo Dolls sound like the Replacements. Well, the band got together with Paul Westerburg (I think that's his name) from the Replacements to write the song, just to spite the critics. Another one of their later songs called Hate This Place was written by Johnny Rzeznik to sound like the Replacements.
Lyrics below from googoodolls.com.
We Are The Normal
It's a beautiful day I heard everybody say
The sun shines down for all of us
Just the same you know I like the rain
That ain't so obvious
It's a beautiful sight I guess everybody's right
This day belongs to all of us
Even still I like with a chill
That ain't so obvious
We are the normal
We live and we die
With no reason why
It's a beautiful life and I've got it in my sights
And that ain't for all of us
It's a beautiful sound
My life comes crashing down
That ain't so obvious
It's a beautiful sin and I'm doing it again
And that ain't for all of us
It's a beautiful life and I've got it in my sights
Ain't that so obvious
We are the normal
We live and we die
With no reason why
Hate This Place
Gone away
Who knows where you been
You take all your lies
And wish them all away
I somehow doubt
We'll ever be the same
There's too much poison
And confusion on your face
Can you feel it
I didn't mean it
Can I see you
What are we doing
I think I love you
But I ain't saying nothing you don't know
Hold on dream away
You're my sweet charade
Take your time
Move yourself to me
Yeah I can take your lies
Until you fall away
You know I'm lost
Hiding in your bed
No I don't think it's wrong
It's just gone to my head
Can you feel it
I didn't mean it
Can I see it
What are we doing
I think I love you
But I ain't saying nothing you don't know
Hold on dream away
You're my sweet charade
Hey what you doing to me
Would you come back to me
Yeah I can't do another day
I'm not certain of it anyway
I ain't messing with another life
Can I get along without you
Tell me lies
That you know I need
Hold on dream away
You're my sweet charade
It's a beautiful day I heard everybody say
The sun shines down for all of us
Just the same you know I like the rain
That ain't so obvious
It's a beautiful sight I guess everybody's right

I have the GGD's AOL screenname on my Buddy List... mrgreen Sakopoo. As of 1995. They did a chat with fans on 7/10/95. They said that they wouldn't perform We Are the Normal live anymore! Here's the interview.
Phopewell: Who is "Name" about?
SAKOPOO : anybody you want it to be about
That part is sad. Name is about Johnny Rzeznik's growing up an orphan. I can just imagine him writing that response. It's just so sad.
RKL13: Have you ever had to use one of those EURO toilets that are just a hole in the ground?
SAKOPOO : yes we called it the Turkish squat
rofl That's hilarious. It gives me a strange mental picture...
Mr Atoz: Why don't you guys wear shoes onstage?
SAKOPOO : if the stage is really gross we wear shoes
They wore shoes in Buffalo...Maybe they got tired of being barefoot? It would be sort of sexy, though, to see them play with no shoes. How many bands do that?
I think that may be it...
Oh, I have a new writing contest. The title is Polish for "skill."
Have I told you that I'm teaching myself Polish? Yes, written only, though, since I don't think I'd be pronouncing the words correctly. I've got 1-29 pretty much down.
jed
dwa
trzy
cztery
pied (there is an accent below the e; it is not "pied" wink
szesc (accents above the last two letters)
siedem
osiem
dziewiec (accent below the second e and above the c)
dziesiec (accent below the second e and above the c)
There's 1-10.
I gotta go find something else to do...
I was reading my other "Ramblings..." entry and remembered somthing: THE NEXT GGD ALBUM COMES OUT THE LAST WEEK OF JANUARY OR THE FIRST WEEK OF FEBRUARY!! It hasn't been confirmed by the band, but I saw it two places on the absolutegoo.com forum. That means that the tour might start earlier and they might come to a place near me before the school year's out! *faints*
Another rememberance: When I bought EOAC, I also downloaded Better Days leagally from WalMart.com. I put it on a CD and it's the only song on there. I listened to it for my approximately one hour of bus ride one day and the twenty-five minutes it takes in the morning the next. It's wonderful, and was the source of the prompt for my writing contest.
