Two people take the same class.
Person one does all her work, reads all the assignments, and gets A's on all the tests.
Person two does her work, skims the assignments and gets good grades on the work.
Person one does not slack off and sleep, while person two is trying everything in her power not to sleep, but manages to get good sleep time in regardless.
Person one gets a C in the class while person two gets a B.
So doing all your work, paying attention, and listening to a blathering teacher only gets you a C.
If I work hard and do things right, supposedly good things will come your way. A C in a class is not going to get me into a UC. I'm probably not even going to make it into a UC, I'll probably be moving out of state in about two years anyway.
Though that still pisses me off, I do my work and I get a C. College teachers are truly biased sons of bitches.
