A short story I did about my hometown.


Romeoville. The Town I used to live in. Until now I haven't realized how dirty everything was there. When the sun shined bright on our little town, it only served to reveal all the dirt and dust that was collected on the streets and sidewalks. Back then though, we were happy. The sun was something we all looked forward to, and when it came around we didn't notice the dust and dirt that surrounded us.

The days were always long and hot. There was all the time in the world to do whatever you wanted. There was never anything meaningful to do. The days passed in slow, constant succession. Some days even seemed to fade into one another. Summer days when everything was shrouded in sepia, and winter days when everything was blank. Winter was the only thing that hid the dirt and dust. Just like a cold lie, it hid everything that only the hot sun could show. It was depressing. The winter stayed too long and we almost got used to not seeing everything dirty and barren. Then, when it left, it felt like we had just learned that we had been living in captivity for all our lives.

We carried on, eagerly hoping the sun would return. Summer would return and we would feel like we were happy again. The slow, faded days wore on forever. Days were spent with friends, on the sidewalk, in the streets. There was never a time that the though of leaving this town had ever crossed my mind. To me, this town was all that existed. I could never want anything more.

Time flowed outside of our town, but it seemed as though it had stopped for us. Nothing ever changed. Until the day I left. It felt like the sun would never shine again. It had never shone so bright that day.
