- If you've never made a webpage in your life, starting out creating an interactive pet is not a good idea. Start with some basics first, little grasshopper.
If you've never used PHP/MySQL in your life, again this is probably not a good idea for a first project. Start with some 'hello world' basics and see how you go with that first.
If you don't have a hosting plan that supports PHP/MySQL and has a large (a few gigs) of bandwidth per month, either attain one or forget it. This isn't something that can be run out of a Photobucket account.
I use Dreamweaver to code in, but don't assume it will do everything for you - there is no 'make interactive pet' button in DW. Technically you could do all this in Notepad or any text editor; I like DW because it highlights everything nicely and has some autofill. BBEdit is probably better if you have a Mac.
I definitely can't be considered an expert, and I know a lot of my code for Felixi isn't as optimised and neat as it should be, but I can be sure of those few points above.
I don't want to discourage people from making interactive pets - in fact, I'd really like to see more of them. Just make sure you don't decide to make one on a whim without any prior knowledge, because it just doesn't work that way.
That being said, I think I'll post more ideas, tips and links for people in here, so if you really are interested keep an eye on this journal wink
