"No," she whispered, backing away in horror at the scene unfolding in front of her.
He looked up, startled to see her there. Holstering his pistol and stepping away from the body behind him, he held up his hands and moved toward her slowly.

"Wait, Sandy, it's not what you think..."

"No! Stay away from me!" She turned and sprinted away, stopping outside the saloon to untie her horse, Chaz. She leapt onto him, urging him into a gallop, his unruly mane flowing wildly behind him as they rode away, leaving Cole behind in a cloud of dust.

Days flowed into nights, and still they flee, and still she knew he pursued her. It was when she heard the distant thunder of hoof beats behind her that she knew all was lost. She was tired. Chaz was tired. And all the while Cole was gaining on them. He raced closer and closer, until they were close enough to see into each other's eyes. When she saw the pain and urgency in those blue orbs she hesitated, but didn't stop. In desperation, Cole swung his lasso around Chaz's neck. The mustang whinnied and dug his hooves into the ground, but he pulled them closer.

"Listen to me, please." She refused to look at him, but he continued, "It was in self defense, I swear. He's the one the bounty hunters have been after for months. Outlaw Robinson."

She glanced up.

"Will you trust me?" He pleaded.

Sandy let out a small sigh, closing her eyes. She didn't try to pull away when she felt his arms around her, but leaned into his touch.
"I'm sorry," She murmured into his chest.

" 's Okay," He smoothed the strands of hair poking out from underneath her hat. "Let's go home."
