Me & English
English has always been one of the languages that I love. Me and English goes way back and I clearly remember how I was introduced to the language. I’ve always been a huge fan of games; including video- and computer games. Of course back then I had no idea what they were saying when I was playing the game, but it came to me little by little.
I have an older brother and I’ve always looked up to him. He always appeared to fancy swearing in English, and I would always stand in his shadow repeating the words he spoke and eventually I ended up learning words such as the ’f’ word, “damn it, SOB”, etc.
Danish and English have always walked hand-in-hand as far as my upbringing is concerned. My English got better along with my Danish, which today has caused a few issues. Issues such as me mixing the two languages together.

I wouldn’t say that I have mastered the language to perfection, but I’ve always been a step ahead, which made English class very boring in primary school. The majority of the English I speak and write, is self-taught. This is because I spend most of my spare time on the Internet; writing and debating with people from all around the world. I also spend my time reading translated Manga, which is original Japanese comics, translated from Japanese to English. With that cleared, one could say that I use the English language more than the Danish language, or at least equally.
I have some issues with pronunciation. I fear that it has something to do with either my mother-tongue or the fact that I have too many different languages in my head, among them are; German, English, Danish and some Portuguese. I’m half Portuguese, and I have that trait from my mother’s side of the family. I love writing and speaking in English, however, I’m really insecure when I speak since I’m afraid of making mistakes in public. I personally believe that I speak fine English, compared to how the majority of Danes speak. If I had to choose to stick to either oral or written English, I would go with written. That’s because that I’m able to read my sentences through and I generally have a better overview when I’m writing. I hope that I’ll be able to improve my pronunciation throughout the years, but if I manage to succeed; only time will show.
I’m currently dating an American girl who’s from West Virginia. It’s a huge challenge since we both speak different mother-tongues. Of course we communicate by speaking English to one another, however, she plans on learning some Danish. I can’t really see the point in her learning Danish since the English language is an expanding one, and I’m quite convinced that the near future will be speaking English.
English is an expanding language, my girlfriend is American and the world is reuniting little by little. These are a few of the reasons why English is such a fine language, and it’s not just because that I believe English will be the language spoken in the future, that I like it. English plays a big role in my life and it’ll continue to do so for the rest of my lifespan. All I hope for is that I can improve mine, so I’ll be successful in the near future as far as moving abroad is concerned.
