4:04 PM Day 5...
Well friends, today I received news today. . . Sadly, it was news that I feared of getting. One of my hard drives is corrupt... There's nothing they can do. My computer had 2 hard drives in a RAID setup; they were connected and sharing files amongst themselves so I could have more space. The way it had been set up, however, each hard drive took half of the file info for itself so each file was essentially cut in half. With one drive dead, only half of the halves remain; you can't have a picture when all you get is the bottom half - without the top it isn't whole.
*rubs my forehead*... Goodness... What devastating news... Over a year's worth of school work - gone. Pictures I've collected from many months ago - gone. Bookmarks to some of the most amazing websites I had found, of which I can't remember right now - gone. Videos I'd enjoyed - gone. Online bought comics and games - gone. All my hard work in games, from building my own warships down to the very tiniest of details to growing a character from a peasant into a hero, decked out in the spoils of the many glorious battles I had faced... gone...
Technically, you could say I've lost between 1 - 2 years of my life literally. I am... very... pained by this news.
Folks, I'm going to tell you this now: Find a way to back up your things. I'm going to check out some external hard drives and I recommend you all do the same. If not that, then get a DVD burner and burn backups of your computer's most cherished files onto a DVD every month or so. Do not let something like this happen to you.
I'm going to start over - I have lost a great deal, but I can rebuild. I will never truly have the same computer, nor will I ever have those old files that only came once (like my school works); but it is the ability to gather strength from within, pick up the pieces, and move forward that can make one strong. Life is all about evolving, adapting, growing, and most of all - living.
