Chapter 2
The man was short, broad shouldered and dark skinned with even darker hair. “Where is the chosen one?” He asked. “The child lay with his mother. Do not disturb them Cahir. I know you far too well to let you have free reign in this situation,” answered Celeste. “Come now, did you really think that I would go to all the trouble of creating him just so you could protect him like you protected my niece?” “I did what I thought was right Cahir. You would have had her die just so your blessed one could live. I am old, but not yet senile. You would risk anything and everything to see that child come into his ancient birthright. If not for the decree it would have occurred naturally, but you thought destiny was taking too long. It delayed for three hundred years, and you would use my daughter as the vessel for this prophecy. You know that she will die raising him. How could you?” “I didn’t have a choice Celeste. You of all people should know that. I was the one destined to train him, I still do not understand one piece of the prophecy, and perhaps you would care to explain it to me.” Celeste only glared at Cahir. “Let me refresh your memory on how the ancient prophecy is spelled out. At the breaking of the Empire A power will rise anew His power will not be equaled He will be the “Now do you see why we must protect this child? He will be the most powerful mage in the world. None shall dare oppose him and all who do shall be destroyed. You must not fight this prophecy.” Cahir watched Celeste intently, waiting for her response. “You must do as you see fit. For myself, I shall do all I can to care for the girl. You must find out who the Two are that the prophesy speaks of. Or did you take care of that as well with your little experiment?” Celeste finally answered. “In my defense, I had only the One in mind when I changed the data. Now I must go. I’ve got some reading to do.” With that, Cahir stepped out of the room and went into the huge library down the hall. When he reached the library, he began searching through the shelves for references related to the old prophesy of three centuries ago. Who were the Two and why would they rule with Omega? Was he not more powerful than any other magical being in existence? Would the two influence his decisions? These were questions that needed to be answered immediately. Cahir turned o the database research center and started searching the catalogue for a reference came up; he rushed to the shelves to find it. The book was ancient. It was bound in deep blue hide and was embossed with silver. On the front and back cover, silver stars shimmered mysteriously, as bright as the day they had been imprinted on the cover of the ancient tome. On the front cover in flowing script was “The Collective Records of the Divinations” The pages were wafer thin and crackled as they were turned. This was a record of all the prophecies that had been said since the Empire had been created. It was a self generating book. The book added pages as needed for the prophesies that were being said. It held all divinations in the order they were said and recorded the time, date, and solar position in which the divination had been foretold. The book also contained the outcomes of the prophesies as the occurred. The book would add pages as needed for the date, time and situation in which the saying had been fulfilled. Most of the minor prophecies had been, but the most revolutionary, were still to come. The conditions in which they would come to pass were swiftly approaching because the One had been born. Once the prophesy had been set in motion there was no telling how it would come about. The entire Empire could be destroyed by the trifling of Cahir and his “Omega Project.” The natural order would be thrown off and send the entire Empire into disarray, but the process had begun and there would be no stopping the motion of planets now. Once he had flipped to the page he was looking for, he walked over to an alcove and settled himself with parchment and quill and began to take down all that concerned the prophecy including the lines of the prophesy. Cahir continued on through the night making additional notes on the parchment and searching the stacks for other books related to the prophecy. Suddenly in the deep silence, a sharp cry rang out. Cahir started from his work leaving a smudge on the parchment which he had just laid out to dry. He got up and ran out of the room leaving his book face down on the table and a fully loaded quill perched on the parchment. Celeste met him in the hallway; she was on her way to the guest bedroom where Luella was. Another cry sounded, this time louder and more piercing than the last. The sound was coming from Luella’s room. When Celeste opened the door, they saw Luella lying in the middle of the bed panting with her face contorted with pain. She looked up as they entered and said between clenched teeth, “They are coming.” Celeste sprang into action. She called her two maids and ordered them to boil water and bring in extra bedding. She then began to take out three emerald crystals and laid one on each side of Luella and the other levitated four feet directly above Luella’s middle.
