The First Vampire Cat
chapter 4
"I'll come with you." Vex said. I looked at him.
"No Vex. I don't want you to get hurt. Besides, I have Max to protect me.
I don't want you to come." I said. I meant every word. If I was in danger, I didn't want Vex to get involved.
He scowled at me and stormed out of the room without one word.
"Vex! Wait! I'm sorry!" I stood up, but Max and Jacob stopped me.
"Let him go Aya. He's just being stubborn." Jacob said.
I looked at Jacob, then Max. I gasped.
"Max! What's wrong with your eyes?!"
He blinked in confusion.
"My eyes?"
He walked over to the mirror on Haine's wall and gasped.
Haine ran over.
"No.." She breathed.
Max's eyes were now red. Blood red, as if he was in bloodlust.
"Is it bloodlust?" I asked quickly. Jacob looked at me. Max frowned.
"No... If it was I'd be attacking you by now." He looked back at himself in the mirror. "I'm becoming a demon." He sighed. Haine put her hands on his shoulder.
"Is that bad?" I asked.
"Well, 5 out of 10 vampires become demons eventually. Some go bad, like my father did. Hopefully Max doesn't change completely. But he'll always have red eyes now." Haine said, then giggled. "It's too bad, I liked Max's eyes."
He smirked but continued looking into his own eyes, terrified at them.
I walked over.
"Max, you won't go bad. I believe you can control it." Jacob said.
"Me too Max! I'll help you get through this!" I said.
He looked up at me, his black hair falling over his new blood-red eyes.
"Thank you Aya."
"Aya, we need to speak to Maximillion alone for a moment. Would you mind?"
Haine asked. I nodded and left the room shutting the door behind me.
I walked outside and saw a swingset. I smiled. It reminded me of when I was young. I walked over and sat on the swing. I closed my eyes and thought.
"What if Max really does go evil? What will happen to me? Or him?"
Suddenly my train of thought was broken.
"What's so special about Maximillion?" a voice startled me.
Vex was sitting on the swing next to me looking at his feet.
"Nothing. He's just my body guard."
"Then why can't you have two body guards?"
I looked at Vex. He looked angry.
"What?" He stood up.
"It's not fare Aya! I've known you my entire life! Why?! I should be the one to protect you! Not Maximillion!" He screamed. I was in awe. He gasped and looked back down at his feet in embarresment. "I'm......sorry." I saw a single tear fall down his cheek. I stood up and walked over to him. I put my hand on his shoulder.
"Vex?" He looked up at me, eyes watering, but I knew how hard he tried to hold the tears back.
"I don't want you to get hurt." I said.
"And you think my safety means more then me worrying about you?" he cried.
"No Vex! I just...." I began, but I was cut off. It took only a second to discover that Vex's lips were on mine.
