An Adolescent Vampire
Chapter 8
"Max is supposed to be king?!" I gasped. Victor nodded. I frowned. "My father really is evil." I sighed.
"We are very much obliged Victor. Come on Haine! We have to hurry!"
Jake took my hand and ran me back out into the open.
"Where are we going?!" I yelled.
"We have to save Maximillion before Xavier or Bryce kill him!"
My heart pounded.
"We're going into the castle?!" I yelled.
"Yes, but you have nothing to fear but the vampires inside that want you dead.
Remember, you are also a vampire now." Jake smirked, but I could tell he was worried.
It was around dusk when we reached the castle. Xavier's car was crashed into a tree and a dried up trail of blood was leading into the castle.
"Looks like Max tried to struggle his way out of it. Too bad he didn't win." Jake whispered. "Let's go!"
Jake took my hand and we crept quickly towards the ravine. He stopped me a few times when he thought he saw or heard someone, but then continued walking shortly. Suddenly, we heard a painful scream.
"It's Max!!" I gasped, tears instantly forming at my eyes. "Jake! We gotta get in there! He's being tortured!" I screamed. Jake cupped his hand over my mouth.
"Shut it you idiot! Do you want us to hget caught?!" He hissed into my ear.
My heart pounded as I watched him let me go and climb up the wall. "Follow me."
he whispered, "But don't speak!" he snapped. I sowly followed him up, amazed at how angry he was.
About an hour has past and we were running swiftly amoung the hallways.
We were following Max's screams. I had to bite into my lip to keep from crying or screaming myself. Jake squeezed my hand to try and comfort me, but then he froze. Fear in his eyes.
"Welcome Jacob. I've been expecting you."
It was Xavier! His long black hair fell over his yellow eyes as he smiled at Jake and I. His hands were dripping with blood, Max's blood!
"What have you done with Max?! What are you doing to him?!" I cried.
Xavier smiled.
"As you know by now, Max is heir to the throne. Bryce wants dreadfully to kill him, but I talked my way into torturing the little rat he is before he dies. It's quite fun actually!" Xavier smiled.
"You monster!" I growled. Jake snapped at me to shut up and run. I refused.
I was tired of running my whole life.
"How dumb can you be?!" Jake yelled.
"This is going to be fun!" Xavier smirked, and with no warning launched himself onto Jake.
"Jake!" I yelped. Xavier was pounding his head aside the wall as Jake kneed him in the gut and stood up. He spun around knocking Xavier down with a gaint blow to the stomach. A little blood came out of Xaviers mouth, then he smiled.
"Time to get serious!" He whispered, pulling out a dagger. To my surprise, Jake had a dagger as well, and he launched himself at Xavier. The battle raged on, blood squirting everywhere. I was mortified, but I didn't back away. I didn't look away, and I didn't run away. I watched, as the love of my life fought to the death, and I couldn't do anything to stop it. Jake told me to stay out of it, but it was so hard to just stand there and watch.
"Run Haine! I order you!" Jake yelled, blood spilling out of his open mouth.
I began to run at first, until I heard somebody drop their dagger. I spun around and saw Xavier pinning Jake down, dagger to his chest and blood red eyes. Jake's dagger was one foot away from me.
"Say good-bye Jacob." Xavier whispered and pulled his hand back to stab Jake's heart. Then it all happened in a second. I ran. I grabbed the dagger and flung myself at Xavier. I knocked his dagger out of his hands when he took me by surprise, and I pinned him down, dagger to his chest. He showed no fear as he looked into my eyes. I stabbed Xavier in his heart. Blood burst out of him. And with his last breathes, he said this.
"Well, what do you know? I wasn't expecting this. You, Haine, are a stupid vampire.
our father will be furious you killed me. You are a terrible sister." Then Xavier died.
"What was he talking about?! I'm not his sister!" I snapped.
"Yes, you are Haine." Jake sighed. I looked at him. "Xavier was Bryce's son."
