July 2005 Donation Item Critique
This month's items are the Lunar Cowl and Solar Headdress.

Must Have Rating: 2 out of 5
Recommended Item: Whichever matches best for your inventory

I got to be careful what I wish for.
You know, for the longest time I've been waiting for a donation item to just suck. You know, to drive the prices down. While I can't say that these items suck, I am getting tired of these "Multi-Quip" items that require you to have at least two more sitting in your inventory. Seriously, do the admins really need that much money? (I'd prefer if an admin answered that question.)

I am the terror that flaps in the night!
I am the critic that isn't all that impressed.

The Lunar Cowl is pretty much your typical head wear for the most part. With three different mode, you would think that this sucker would stay a hat. More on that later.

The default mode is pretty much your typical hoody with bat/cat ears sticking up at attention. Cute, but also kind of hokey. The Lunar symbol is right smack in the middle of the forehead, making the hat look like something bought from an anime Halloween store.

The Lunar Shade mode is, once again, a potential copyright infridgement. Do I even need to point out that it looks like Batman's cowl he wears in the latest movie that's out in theatres right now? No? Good.

The Lunar Eclipse just looks weird to me. It appears to be a combination of Batman's mask from the animated series style that you can see on the current Justice League episodes and Spider-man's mask. Really odd, and I don't see how anyone can wear that and make it look good.

Now, with all this bad review, you would think that that I wouldn't have anything nice to say about the last two modes. Wrong!

The last two modes are known as Lunar Tide and Lunar Belt. These modes differ from gender to gender, which is kind of a good thing.

On the girls, the Lunar Tide looks like a tied haulter top, with I can't say I'm a fan of. You know, too many potential wardrobe malfulctions in real life, but thankfully Gaia keeps those under control. On the guys, the Lunar Tide is a chestplate. As a bonus to guys, the face is then "infected" with facial tattoos! Thankfully, these can be removed.

The Lunar Belt on girls looks like a tied short skirt. I mean, really short! You can still see the underwear as plain as day! I recommend if girls chose this mode to wear that they either flaunt it or cover up. Whichever is your style. The Lunar Belt on guys forms another half of the torso armor that has six-pack abs! While this is a good thing, I'm not of fan of the fact the Lunar symbol is right there were the crotch is. We have enough p***s referances in Gaia as it is. *coughBatGlitchcough*

The last two modes are obviously meant to go together to form either a sexy night outfit (girls) or some impressive Dark Knight armor. While it works for the girls, especially with the right kind of panties and accessories, it is too dark to appreciate when the avatar is at a small scale for the guys. That is, if you can get it to work.

Goddess of the Sun?
Like its counterpart, this headdress has three modes and two modes that work well together. Actually, I take that back, the modes this item has are exactly like its counterpart for the month.

The default mode is pretty much your standard headdress that makes me wonder how the hell the avatar is wearing it. If played around with the right fish helmet, this could make for a fancy head wear.

The Solar Shade mode is pretty much the same head gear as above only with the face mask down. This makes most avatars look like they belong in the mythological days of Rome. Now if only the Greek Set would match with it, then I would probably like this mode. Unfortunately, until they release Greeco-Roman armor with the battle system, this mode will be hard to make look good.

The Solar Eclipse mode looks like something out of Majora's Mask. The headdress becomes a mask that looks like it is possessing the wearer with some kind of dark aura. Impressive and very surprising for an object that is clearly on the "light" end of the spectrum.

Sloar Flare has got to be my favorite. Both genders are given not one, not two, but three pieces of jewelery! In this mode, the avatars get a pair of arm bands and another shiny new necklace. This mode has to be the more stylish of this item's simply because you can wear this and not have a shirt on if you are a guy. Girls may have to seek out a tasteful looking bra or top of some kind, unfortunately.

The Solar Belt mode is pretty much the same as the girl version of the Lunar Belt mode, only it is for both genders. Again, it shows the underwear, so try to cover up with something, preferably white.

Day or Night? Night or Day?
You know, I'm not really all that impressed by either to pick one over the other. They both have their strong points, but at the same time I'm really pissed that you have to have at least three of one of these items just to complete the set and make it look somewhat cool. While I know most people are anti-sets, it still bugs me that I'll (for now) never know what a complete Lunar Armor would look like. And that's at the least!

In any event, I'd go for the Solar Headdress simply for the extra jewelery you get from the Solar Flare mode. But that's just me.

I recommend you pick whichever one you seem to like the most.

I think the idea behind the multi-quip is that it gives the admins an excuse to provide items that match with nothing, because they'll at least go with themselves.

I think this is one of your harshest ratings yet, but I feel that more effort could/should've been made in regards to how to best 'match' the items.

I'm harsh this time around because I don't think these items are all that great with very few saving merits to warrent and average rating like last month's items. At least that set had something going for it, even if it was playing on the whole Pokemon angle.

This month's items just are not doing it for me. I'm not saying I'm not a fan of Batman or that the Solar Headdress sucks outright, because they do have something that I like. I'm just saying that they could have done a hell of a lot better.

As far as the Multi-Quips go, I think this is just the Admins way of hinting they need more money by releasing Donation Item sets within one item. It would be like if the Peasent Set came as one item instead of three.

I second your opinion Zeek. As far as I can tell, these Donation Item Sets are just a ploy to get more people to donate more to GAIA. Which is sad. All they'd need is a bar graph or some sort of ticker saying how much more they'll need for that month to keep GAIA up. Updated hourly. That's ALL it would take. Not all this crap.

And you forgot a little about the Lunar Tide. In the female avatar, the Lunar Tide gives the avatar earrings. Which has never been done before. Although it is a somewhat pathetic excuse to use it.

And just to let you know why so few people have got these Lunar Armour Sets on, it's because we're having a problem with the inventory once more. Annoying isn't it.

I do like the Armband (whateveritiscalled) mode of the Solar Headdress though, since it can be used with certain avatars to great effect. For example, why not use a White Tuxedo with it?

Really? I didn't notice. Mostly because the girls I see wearing it as the haulter top don't really show their ears.

And, yeah, the inventory arranger being dead is annoying the hell out of me. But I have a plan on how to get it to work to my advantage provided I have the funds or I end up getting another donation letter handed to me by someone that doesn't want it. Fat chance on the second one, but stranger things have happend to me before.

EDIT: Bought myself another set and got the armor to work. As such, I edited my original critique slightly.

    i disagree IMO
    (this is not a flame)
the admins are not forcing your wallet to open or stealing your creditcard. you are the owner and its up to you to choose how you spend your money.
you can say the multi option was started by the users of gaia; after the bear/monkey jammies. people didn't like them because "it made them look fat" so the admins worked (surprisingly fast) to create a skinny option and ever since donations have been multi clicks.

the gaia stores have clothes/shoes/assesories/stockings/socks etc- that are meant to be whole once you buy each peice, but that is of your own choosing! you don't have to buy all the peices just to complete the outfit, you can just match it with something else.
you don't need to complete a G-LOL just because everything is there.

multi option is there because its "optional"
it gives varity. if someone doesn't like the donation beause its just a hat then thats them. But if the donation has the option of the hat becoming a shirt, i say thats a good thing. the donation doesn't feel plain.

if you are thinking "OMG i have the mask...but...i i just NEED to have the cape from the same donation! i must spend"
    that is your problem.

Bunai, why did you C&P what you said in that thread in the feedback forum on here?

On top of that, what are you disagreeing with? The comment that I made about being tried of the multi-quips? In my critique, that was just merely a blip!

If you are saying you disagree with my critique, then by all means state your case! But I already read what you C&P-ed here in the forum you posted in. This isn't the place for that. At least, I think it isn't.
