Chapter 1: Before the Legend
The sky was black.... The darkness was eternal.... As I gazed into the distance I pondered what it was that I was even trying to do.... Everything around me was nothing.... I walked past figments of my own imagination.... Blurs of memory, of emotion desperately trying to live, flowed around me.... The ground was soft under foot.... I kept walking.... No destination was awaiting me.... There would never be a destination.... For I walked alone.... No matter how far I walked, I would find nothing.... My only companion would be those memories.... They stretched out, grasping towards me, only wanting to exist.... It could not be helped.... All I could do is walk, all I could ever do was walk.... If I stopped nothing would change.... If I walked nothing would change.... Periodically I would gaze at those heavens, vast and infinite as they were.... I had eternity to think, to ponder.... That was what I did.... Time did not exist there.... Or rather, time did not exist at all.... Until I suddenly just knew.... One thought, spawned by the sight of one particular memory.... That's all it took.... Everything else immediately fell into place.... Connecting the dots was easy with that one missing piece.... The memories mourned themselves as they all vanished except that one.... I favored it a long stare, as if thanking it.... Then it disappeared.... The black slowly began fading.... First the sky as the stars began flicking into existence one by one until the midnight sky was a blaze with all their glory.... Everything began appearing one by one.... Dewy Grass spurt forth from nowhere gleaming under the stars and holding fresh dirt into place.... Slowly but surely.... Over the course of many long nights.... Everything was created.... By me....
