*View of small house in East L.A.. Mother and son sit at dining table eating their meal* "Chase...Chase...CHASE!!" *Chase looks up* "I heard you the first time, Mother." "Then please respond once in a while. I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall half the time." "What's wrong with being a brick wall?" "Well, it annoys the hell out of me for one." *Mother says this as she slams her hand down on the table* "No need for the theatrics, Mom." "Will you atleast listen to what I have to say?" *Chase sighs* "Yes, Mother." "Thank you. I got a letter in the mail yesterday, from the Foreign Exchange Committee. They say that you have been acceted in the program and would like to send you to Japan for schooling this year." "Whoo hoo...." "I just think that it would be a good idea to give you a change of scenery for a while, that's all. I mean, I recieved four referals the last week of school from where you were getting into fights." "It's not my fault." *Chase stares down at his cereal, idley stiring the milk* "Will you atleast give it a month? If you are still unhappy I'll come their personally and pick you up, alright?" "What are the details?" *Mother's face lightens up* "You will be staying in the dorms, meals and school materials will be payed for, and I'll send you an allowance once a week, if you need more than that, just call me." *Chase sighs* "When do I leave?" "It says here that you will be leaving two weeks from tomorrow." *Chase thinks for a minute* "Two weeks...." *Chase gets up from the table* "I'll be back at five." "Just stay out of trouble, Chase." *Chase opens the front door* "I'll try." *Chase leaves the house and heads up the street* ~Arriving at a blue house with a small dog barking in the window~ *Chase walks up the driveway* "Shut up Cujo." *Chase knocks on the front door. An elderly woman answers the door* "Is Jess home?" "Yes, she is. Come in Chase." *She opens the door wider and Chase enters.* "JESSICA!! CHASE IS HERE!" *Chase rubs his now throbbing ear. A young blonde girl comes down the stairs* "Hey Chase." "Hey Jess." *Jess notices him rubbing his ear* "Loud?" "Very. I need to learn to dash for the living room when I come in." "I know I'm old, but I can still hear you." *Chase sits down on the couch. Jess sits next to him and her grandma heads for the kitchen* "Would you like something to eat, Chase? You look famished." "I'm fine, I just got done with breakfast at home." "Ok, just holler if you need anything." "Thanks Ms. McCallister." *Jess turns the TV on and turns to Chase* "So what have you been up to?" "The usual." "Chase! You need to get out of your house more than once a week." "What's the point? All I do is come over here anyways." "Staying cooped up indoors all day can't be good for your health." "You won't have to worry about that for long." *Jess punches him in the arm* "And just what the hell is that supposed to mean?" "My mom wants me to go to Japan for school, she thinks I need a change in scenery. Obviously she's getting tired of me getting into fights." "I don't blame her. You beat the crap out of a kid just for bumping into me." "That's because he didn't say 'Excuse me' or 'Sorry' or anything." "That's still no reason to beat the hell out of him." "I only hit him twice." "Yeah, and the second hit knocked him out." "I can't help that he can't take a hit." "Whatever, just tell me about this whole 'Japan' thing." "Well, my mom says that if I don't like it after a month then she'll come pick me up. And I leave in two weeks." "WHAT?!? Two weeks to say 'Good Bye', that's nowhere near long enough! Why the hell is she just now telling you?" "She only got the letter yesterday." *Chase takes out a pack of cigarettes* "You need to quit that, it's bad for your health." "We're all gunna die someday." "But I'd rather it be later rather than sooner." *Chase lights a cigarette. Grandma shouts from the kitchen* "Chase, you better not get ashes on my couch!" *Chase yells back* "I won't." *Chase turns to Jess and takes a hit off his cigarette* "So how are you and What's His Face doing?" "Jake? Oh, we broke up." "Ah...That's a shame." "Not really, he was being a real jerk." "Want me to kick his a**?" "No, I just wish he'd listen once in a while." "The offer's still open." *Jess laughs* "Maybe later." *Chase knocks ashes off into ashtray on coffee table* "So what do you think I should do?" "About the Japan thing? I say just go with it and see how it turns out." "So you're trying to get rid of me?" *Jesse gets a distressed look on her face* "No. Nothing like that." *Chase laughs* "I was only joking." *Jess punches him in the arm again* "Don't joke like that." "Don't fall for it." "It's hard to tell when you are joking because you are so serious most of the time." "Would you rather me be a hopless idiot?" *Chase lays his head in Jess's lap* "No, I guess not." *Jess starts running her fingers through Chases hair* "I have an idea." "And what is that?" "Why don't you come with?" *Jess sarcasticaly replies* "Hahaha, funny." "I am being serious." "Chase, my grandma wouldn't let me leave the country, even if I did get accepted into a school in Japan." "Well, it was just an idea." *Chase takes a final hit of his cigarette and puts it out* "Atleast I'll be able to buy my own cigarettes and booze." *Jess laughs* "See? I knew you'd be able to find a bright side to it." "I have to get going." *Chase gets up* "I'm going to leave early so I can atleast get used to Japan before school starts." "That makes sense....So I guess this is good bye." "Not 'good bye', just a 'See you later' until I get back." *Jess gets up and throws her arms around Chase* "You better write me." "Or what, I feel the wrath of your incredibly hard cookies?" *Jess punches him* "Don't make fun of my cookies." *Chase laughs* "Take care, Jess." "You, too, Chase." *Chase leaves the house and heads for home, where he begins packing.*
