[[Untitled]] --> Chapter Four
CHAPTER FOUR

Silence. There was only silence now. I slowly opened up my eyes, and I could see white walls around me, and I was lying in a bed, facing the ceiling. I turned to my left, and a large window displayed another person’s room. I recognized someone in there, and I gasped as I saw him. Tears rolled down my cheeks, and my eyes swelled with water. I can’t believe I did this to him… I can’t believe it… What the heck happened?! The person in the next room, was the man who had sat next to me in the car. The one who had kidnapped me.

I rubbed my eyes. Why am I crying..? I don’t even know him… and plus, he’s the one that stopped so suddenly… Although, that one is my fault… I turned over on my pillow, and to my right, I saw a small, wooden table that carried a small vase filled about halfway with water and a lily had been placed inside. Beside it, a small card read ‘From Jake. Get well soon!’ A poorly-drawn smiley face was beside his kind words.

“Jake…” I whispered, and I sat up immediately out of my bed. I was still wearing the same clothes as before, and I had on a wristband that was colored loyal blue. I quickly shoved the covers off of my legs, and ran over to the door and thrusted it open. I began to walk out, and before I could turn to go over the man’s room, someone hugged me from behind. It sounded like the person was crying.

“I thought you were dead for sure…” I heard Jake say, and he choked up on tears.

“Jake… I thought it was the end for me, too… I’m so glad I’m alive right now. I’m so elated that I’m here with you, living and breathing.” I replied, and I held onto his arms.

“I couldn’t go into your room because I’m not related to you. I stayed up all night waiting for you to wake up, and I prayed that you would open your eyes, at least once more, just so I could hold you one last time.”

“Don’t worry. Everything’s alright now.” I said and broke free from his grasp. I grinned at him, and turned around to go to the man’s room. I hesitated though, and as soon as I went to grab the handle of the man’s room’s door, I placed my hand back at my side. I can’t bear to go and visit him… I thought, and turned around to see Jake. He was looking at me, and I quickly walked toward the exit of the hospital, blushing, for a reason even I didn’t know. Jake followed quickly behind.

The car ride was silent.

“So, why did that man take you into his car?” Jake asked, but didn’t turn to look at me, since he was concentrated on driving.

“I have no idea…” I whispered, looking down at my thighs. We didn’t speak another word to each other the whole ride.

I slid the key into the door of our apartment, and we slowly walked inside. I walked over to my room, and flipped open my phone to check if I had missed any calls. Surprisingly, I had. Will had called, and it seemed like he called quite a few times. I quickly called him back, not a minute to waste.

I waited for him to pick up again; to hear his voice. I waited eagerly, and finally after what seemed like forever, he picked up.

“Hey, Vanessa!” He shouted, and he explained to me that he had come to Florida already.

“Really? Sorry, I got into a little incident, but I’m back. So, are you at the airport still?” I asked, and he said yes.

“Okay, I can come pick you up.” I offered.

“Alright! Thanks!” Will exclaimed, and hung up, which I thought was a little rude, but I just went along with it and hung up, too.

Jake walked past me, dropping a pile of my laundry in front of me. “Who was that?” Jake questioned.

“That was Will; He’s coming here for a while.” I said. “I mean, in a hotel.” I quickly added.

“Cool! So, are we all going to hang out or something?”

“Yeah.” I said, and smiled at Jake.

“We should all go out to dinner tonight!” Jake happily suggested.

“U-uhm… sure. I can ask him, if you want.” I said, and I reached for my phone and shoved it into my bag, along with my iPod.

“Does he need a ride from the airport?”

“Yes, I’m driving him.”

“I can, if you want. Besides, you don’t have a car.” Jake said, and chuckled. “It should fit all three of us and Will’s luggage, I’m sure!”

“Okay!” I said, and I jumped up from my bed.

I ran past Jake and swiped my coat off of the rack, and swung the door open.

“Last one to the car is a rotten egg!” I shouted back, and I began to run. My laughter echoed through the halls, and doors were blurring past me as I ran through the apartment. I hope I don’t disturb anybody…

I heard footsteps. Holy cow! That was fast! I looked behind me for a second, but I didn’t see anybody.
“J-Jake?!” I asked, hoping he would respond.

“Yeah?” I heard someone yell, and I turned my head to face forward again. Jake was already in front of me, and beginning to dash down the stairs.

“No fair!” I shouted, and I ran as fast as I possibly could go.

I got to the stairs, and ran down. I turned, and went down another flight of stairs. I turned again, and ran down the last pair of steps. Five…four… I counted, as there were only a few steps left. Three… two!!! Suddenly, my shoe lace untied, and laid out flat on the step, and my left foot squashed it. I lifted my right foot, and I trampled down the stairs.

“Ow…” I said, rubbing my leg. I heard Jake come back.

“What happened?” Jake yelled, and jogged over to me, his face red from running.

“I tripped…” I said quietly, and looked at my leg. I wasn’t bloody or sprained or anything, just a little scraped.

“Silly girl…” Jake replied, and laughed. I blushed.

I found Jake holding out his hand again, and he beamed down at me.

I gratefully took it. “Thank you.” I said and smirked at him.

“We shouldn’t keep Will waiting.” Jake said, and his eyes twinkled. Jake dashed out the door and to the car, and it took me a second to comprehend what was going on.

“Eh?! Okay, that’s not fair!” I yelled, and darted after him.
